Central Florida could soon be known for more than just its beautiful beaches.

Local 6 has learned a company is looking to build a new attraction that would let visitors ski and snowboard, among other things.

According to paperwork filed with the Municipal Planning Board in Orlando, AcquaSol Action Adventure Sports Complex would be constructed across from the Festival Bay Mall near International Drive.

According to the plan, AcquaSol would offer a wide variety of outdoor activities that include an ATV track, kayaking and canoeing course, whitewater rafting and a 167-foot skiing and snowboarding slope.

There would also be rock climbing, a large surf park and food and beverage courtyard.

The project is currently owned by I-Drive Investors, LLC, the same company that was pushing the ill-fated Orlando Thrill Park project. City leaders voted down the project in 2011.

City commissioners must approve AcquaSol before construction can begin on the project.

Here is the entire proposal as submitted to the city earlier last month. I've attached some notable screenshots from the plan below.

Same people, same location, and nearly same site plan - just different rides than Orlando Thrill Park? That is a pretty dumpy area (especially the housing it will back up - a VERY high crime area) and not understanding how if the Thrill Park was denied this would be any different.

^Noise pollution and traffic were two of the biggest concerns that led Tangelo Park residents to fight Orlando Thrill Park so vehemently. I'd imagine that aside from the ATV park, the rest of this project would be significantly quieter and less busy than a major theme park.

That was my thinking - ATVs are loud. It will be interesting to see what city has to say. Couple this with the Festival Bay Mall potential make-over and that side of I-Drive could come back to life - still don't think this is the best location for a park. Seems to me the company behind it didn't want to let the thrill park's plans and research go to waste.
