Kooky Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 (edited) Found this new crazy (german) fake documentary on youtube. The rides in this short movies are very crazy and most of them would probably kill you. But it is fun watching and has some nice made CGIs. EDIT: I found the english version and changed the link to it: Edited May 27, 2013 by robbalvey
Cameron Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I just came here to post this - OMG, so awesome!
robbalvey Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I'm bumping this so people can see we already have a thread about it. It's a great video, but please stop posting new threads!!!
cfc Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Finally got around to watching this--hilarious! These rides look like bizarre ways that flat-ride enthusiasts might dream up to commit suicide.
robbalvey Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I have to admit, while the visual effects of the flat rides were incredible in this short film, I didn't quite "get" it. Maybe I'm just not the right audience for stuff like this, but I had a hard time understanding what this was all about, other than just a vehicle to show off all these crazy looking CG rides? If there was supposed to be a story around what was going on, it just didn't make sense to me. The doctor guy just kept rambling on about a bunch of scientific mumbo jumbo and I really couldn't follow it. (nor did I care too.) The rides were amusing, if not fantastical, but the whole film really didn't grab me like I thought it would, considering how many people were telling me "You NEED to watch this!!!"
Taylor Finn Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 ^I couldn't agree more. I showed it to people simply for the cool flats, not because I thought it was a well constructed film. I think the goal was to try to just sell people that the rides were all real and make that claim less and less believable as the film progressed. Because I didn't pick up on any real science or anything, like you said. I think we are definitely the wrong kind of audience for this kind of film.
cfc Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I was pretty amused by the insane CGI rides, but I agree that they could've done a bit more with "research" end of the story.
robbalvey Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Someone just posted about this video again on our Facebook page, so I went back and give it another chance. I still just don't "get" this video. Other than the cool looking (although kind of absurd) flat rides, I just simply don't understand what the filmmakers were going for. I "get" that it's a mockumentary but even after watching it a couple of times, I still don't understand the point or the message. Maybe if I was an engineering person I'd get the story more? I dunno... It looks really neat, but I kind of think the overall film is a huge fail.
