Dear all

My name is Pascal and I am planning to go with my Girlfriend next year in May to Cedar Point for our first time.

Since we've been together (3months ago) we went to Gardaland (Italy) and twice to Europa Park in Rust,Germany.

We both love Rollercoaster and wanted actually to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain..but since the environment is so varied we wanna plan our trip for 2014.

So we are coming both from Switzerland and I have never been in any Theme Parks from the USA except when I was a little boy. So it is time to experience the more intense stuff

Cedar Point is not to far away with the Plane...so we are planning our Trip with the Flight, Hotel, Car etc..

We wanna stay there for like 10 Days but not just in the Park itself. Our Goal is to roam around as well with the Car a bit.

Since Gatekeeper will make it's appearance in May 2013, will it be wise to go then? When will the Park officially open? Since we know very little about when would be the best time to go, we just don't wanna stay in queues for very long and also wanna get those fast passes in case it will be necessary.

Which Resort Hotel is the best from Cedar Point? Are all good or is one especially better then the others?

What is the closest International Airport from Cedar Point? And is it easy to get to Cedar Point by Car?

Now we thought to buy in advance those Platinum Season Passes for 2013, and if they are not bound to a person, once we leave we would pass it on 2 other people in the park once we leave our Holidays, is that possible?

Since we wanna get the best Deals for our Holidays what would be the best way to go? Get the Tickets from the Resort Hotels or buy a season pass?

Sorry if this may come in a bit confusing, but I just wanna get a good picture of what awaits us.

How are the surroundings? Are they nice or do we have to be afraid at nights in case we wanna drive around at night time.

Would be nice for some answers

Cheers

Pascal

I'd suggest you go during early June. Most rides aren't usually open during the first week or two of May, but this is not always the case. And a Fast-Lane pass should help out significantly, 10-20 min waits at max. If your staying for 10 days, a season pass is Ideal (I suggest Platinum). A season pass will save you $300+. Hotel Breakers, Lighthouse Point, Sandcastle Suites, and Castaway Bay (off-site) are all great places to stay. Breakers express is a bit cheaper and off-site, but you still get shuttle service to the park.

Sandusky is a very touristy town. Lots of shops and restaurants. Enough for you to go to 5 new ones each day and still not go to the same one twice. Theirs lots to do there , Including Americas largest indoor water-park "Kalahari". And don't forget, Cedar Point has a beach right next to it, a very relaxing place. Cedar Point also offers Para-sailing and Jet-skis. Not a very scary place if you ask me.

The closest International Airports to Sandusky (Cedar Point) are:

-Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Cleveland, OH . (1 hour drive to Sandusky)

-Port Columbus International Airport, Columbus, OH. (2 hour drive to Sandusky)

What about the week following Memorial Day - are most rides usually open by then?

They should be, it really depends on multiple factors. Usually by the 2nd -3rd operating week, everything is up and running smoothly.

10 days seems like a long time at Cedar Point. Especially now that you can get fast lane. If you are renting a car, you could possible take a few days and drive to some near by parks and attractions. I know we always go to Kings Island when we visit Cedar Point. I also sugguest checking out the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

If you guys are sports fans (not sure if you are because you're coming from Switzerland) I'd recommend making that 2 hour drive to Canton, Ohio in order to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I did this to add an extra day to my vacation to Cedar Point this year. It's truly a bucket list experience for any football fan. They have information and videos of every single player in the Hall of Fame. I strongly suggest you guys go there.

^Somehow I don't think it is very likely that someone from Europe is going to be much of an American football fan.

My advice is go ahead and get a fast lane pass. I was reluctant at first, but it was worth every penny. The line for Maverick were 1 hour and 45 minutes, with the fast lane pass, I was able to get on in less than 10 minutes. My thoughts are 2 days are probably going to be plenty. I would definitely recommend also going to King's Island, they have a great collection coasters that are either not featured at Cedar Point or are significantly better versions (Vortex vs. Corkscrew, Flight Deck vs. Iron Dragon). There are lot of things to do in this section of the country, it all depends really on what you want to see and experience.

If you like history, near the Detroit area (in Dearborn, MI specifically) there is the Henry Ford Museum which has everything from cars, to inventions, to room setting throughout the 20th century in America, and other things along those lines. Then there is Greenfield Village which has houses (and their starting shops) from many significant inventors in American during Henry Ford's life (Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Noah Webster, etc.). It creates an atmosphere of different time eras in America (most emphasized is the beginning of the 20th century).

I would say if your going for about ten days, make it trip around Lake Erie, and maybe visit: Cedar Point, Kings Island, Darien Lake, Niagara Falls and Canada's Wonderland'.
