mtavenger55 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 On Thursday afternoon after my morning college class, two friends of mine & I headed to Six Flags Great Adventure for opening day. The weather was perfect & our ticket was $20 so we were hoping for a good day & we arrived at around 1:30. Unfortunately that did not happen. the park was jam packed! Probably because of the opening day deal. Our 1st stop was Nitro. We ended up waiting an hour & a half! We did sit in the front seat though. After Nitro (which always is my 1st ride of the year) we decided to ride Green Lantern. We ended up waiting 2 hours for Green Lantern! We were disappointed by then & decided to leave from there. We checked out El Toro's line but that was long & they were only running one train. Yeah that day did it for me. No more Six Flags, unless my girl wants to go lol. I prefer Dorney. I don't know when my next trip will be but it won't be at Six Flags Wait Adventure. I took a few pics. Thanks for reading! Follow me on twitter @mtavenger55 We arrived at Wait I mean Great Adventure! The park's new ride. Longest I've ever waited for this ride. Green Lantern. I miss Scream Machine. Very disappointed. I'm going to spend my money somewhere else.
coastercrazy 9 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 I hate to say it, but lines are always longest at about 1:30-5:30.
mtavenger55 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 ^At least you can still go to Dorney on a summer Saturday & wait no longer than 20 minutes per ride.
coastercrazy 9 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 ^At least you can still go to Dorney on a summer Saturday & wait no longer than 20 minutes per ride. IMO, I would rather wait the hours for El Toro than all the Dorney coasters combined.
CoasterGuy06 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Wait....you paid $20 for a ticket and are upset with the length of lines on a day that was a combination of opening day (lots of new employees) AND Good Friday (lots of people out of school/off work), along with great weather? And you arrived in the middle of the day? Yeah...that was poor planning.
mtavenger55 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 ^it was on a Thursday & I had to work around college & my job so I didn't have much of a choice. @coastercrazy9 El Toro is good but I'd rather spend my time at a park with a better atmosphere & get more rides in than have a crappy time for 1 ride.

New employees are always going to take longer in the beginning of the season, compared to the end.
mtavenger55 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 ^I go to opening day every year & it's never been this bad.
coastercrazy 9 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 I don't disagree with you, it's probably because we had some great weather this time around. I can't remember the last time there was great weather on opening day, it usually rains, meaning less crowds.
mtavenger55 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 ^Now that I think about it this was the nicest opening day (weather wise) in a long time.
Parallax Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Quite a bit of complaining considering you went on one of the busiest days of the year. I would expect it to be crowded. I also think that Green Lantern is more fun than GASM was. Scream Machine was just too rough for me.
mtavenger55 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 ^GASM was the 1st ride I ever rode at that park so it I will always have a special place on my coaster count.
Parallax Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 ^GASM was the 1st ride I ever rode at that park so it I will always have a special place on my coaster count. It was almost my first, but I skipped it and went to Rolling Thunder (I think). Rolling Thunder can go too . I'd love to see some dueling GCI woodies there, or even dueling Gravity Group coasters with Timberliners . It would boost attendance and still be a family coaster. A man can dream, can't he?

Haha, that is quite ambitious. Awesome, we can just call it woodie world! And yes, that is what she said.
YoshiFan Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 It was way more crowded than I was expecting. NYC school district and Jackson school district were both in session that day so I figured that would help with the crowds. The real problem seemed to be the rides either closed or that kept breaking down, and rides not running at full capacity. Until around 12:30, lines weren't bad, I was able to ride Nitro twice with a 2 train wait each time earlier in the day. I'm going to try again later this week and hope for lower crowds.

The last thing that park needs is more crowds! @Yoshifan that was my theory as well. I figured since school was still in session for a day it wouldn't be too crowded but we were both wrong unfortunately.
Sir Clinksalot Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Opening Day + $20 ticket = Busy day. Can't say I'm surprised.
coastercrazy 9 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 ^GASM was the 1st ride I ever rode at that park so it I will always have a special place on my coaster count. GASM was a special coaster to me too. I knew it's days were numbered though, so I wasn't very surprised when it was demolished. I knew that that was thee only place where they would decide to put a new coaster. Any SFMM fanboys out there, get ready, Viper's time may be up soon!
cfc Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Viper actually runs pretty well for an old Arrow. But GASM ran more like a device of the Spanish Inquisitiion ( at least to me). I was not sad to see GASM go, but every ride has its fans.
thrillrider Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Lat time that I was on viper, I was amazed at how smooth it was. It did not feel like an arrow coaster at all.
mtavenger55 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 I did enjoy Viper when I rode it back in 09.

With that logic it would be better to stop adding rides and start removing.
