U.K. leisure giant Merlin Entertainments Group is expanding to Japan with a Lego-themed attraction to be built in Tokyo's Odaiba waterfront district, the company announced Thursday.

The 1.2 billion yen Legoland Discovery Center will open next June at the Decks Tokyo Beach mall. It will feature 4,000 sq. meters of Lego games and exhibits geared for families with children age 3 to 10.

This October, Merlin will open a limited-time exhibition of its Madame Tussauds celebrity wax figures at the mall. It is slated to run for a few months, but "if Tokyo residents and international visitors enjoy it as much as the other 12 Madame Tussauds attractions around the world, then Merlin plans to make it a permanent feature," the company said.

Partly owned by the Blackstone Group, Merlin operates 74 attractions in 17 countries with about 44 million visitors a year.

FYI - It's now open! Opened last month!

So did we confirm that it went into the old Muscle Park area? I guess I can find out for myself for sure next summer, but I was trying to look at maps of the mall to figure it out but can't quite place it.

Anyways, the Discovery Center looks fun, Dark Ride, 4D movie, tons of play areas and a miniland with all kinds of awesome Japan stuff!

Can't wait to check it out, I'm sure this will serve as a recruitment center for the full fledged legoland!

It seems like it ended up on the 3rd floor, where as the Muscle Park was on the 5th based on what I found on the web (is this correct?)

So maybe Joypolis took over the space after the Muscle Park and a bunch of restaurants/shops were closed and cleared for Legoland is what I think have happened, based on the maps and stuff I have found.

So anyway, a new place to visit in Tokyo, not bad at all. And with a completely renovated Joypolis which opened yesterday then it can be a nice time to go there now.

^Unless Joypolis moved a lot, they could not have taken over the Muscle Park area.

I saw that they are listed on different floors, but it also looked like Legoland spanned a couple of floors so it could have spread perhaps?

I misunderstood a thing about Joypolis, it have always been 3 floors high, 3rd to 5th.

From what I can understand from the Japanese webpage of Oidaiba Decks, then according to the latest floor plan (May 15th 2012) then there is a large space on the 4th floor, that says "coming soon", which I think is the Legoland Discovery Centre, the Lego shop on the other hand would be located on the 3rd floor.

I don't know more about Muscle park more than it was located on the 5th floor, do you have an old floor plan or even photos that could give it's general location in the building?

So it's hard to tell what have happened really with the space, we just have to wait and see until someone goes there to have a look.
