braztaz Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I hear ya that OV needs a signature ride aside from grizzly to really pull peeps over there but where could anything fit behind the KD theatre? If I'm not mistaken the highway pretty much borders the park on that side so there's not much space to work with but I'd love to see a nice B&M invert over there cough CGA's flight deck cough. Actually, there is a ton of room! I always thought an out-and-back hyper would have fit great back there that wrapped around Grizzly and Hurler before 305 came along... In fact, a coaster the size of 305 could almost fit back there! BTW, thank you all for all the responses, this was my first TPR photo trip report! A hyper could definitely fit back there. Or anything, really. Any new attraction in Old VA would be a great way to spread out traffic from the Congo.
downunder Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I hate Intimidator 305, because after my visit in 2008 I was happy to never go back to KD. With the addition of i305, now I have to go back to KD. Sounds like it's going to be good year for i305. I wonder how it will do in Mitch's 2010 steel poll, hopefully the anti-fanboys will be kept at bay. Great trip report, I really felt like I had paid a visit to the park through your photos - thanks.

What was so bad about your 2008 experience at the park?
Intimidator305 Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 I want to ride Intimidator so bad. There definitely isn't anything like it! Sure, some can say that it is the height of MF and the layout of Maverick, but when I rode it for the first time on opening day last year it blew away my expectations and how I thought the ride was going to be. I think what the people who haven't ridden it yet don't understand is the actual intensity of the ride. I ride it 5+ times each time I'm at the park, and it never gets old! Thanks again for the positive feedback!

What was so bad about your 2008 experience at the park? For a foreigner not driving in the US, KD is a very out of the way park. In 2008, it had some good coasters, but not a "destination" attraction(s) to make me go to the effort of going back. Destination attractions for me are like SROS at SFNE, El Toro, Phoenix, Boulder Dash, Dragster, Maverick, MF. Now KD has definitely added what I'd classify as a destination attraction, which would make it worth going back.
Intimidator305 Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 I must agree, if I was from out of the country, KD would be a one-time park for the credits. Sure there were a few great rides, but nothing to come back for when there are hundreds of other parks in the country to try out when you get the chance to visit the States. Now with 305, it definitely should be on every coaster enthusiast's "to-do" list, because it definitely is a world-class ride, and happens to be my favorite (at my homepark fortunately)!
rollin_n_coastin Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 So glad it's as good as or better than last year. That ride truly takes your breath away. I'm already lookign forward to make a third visit out there. Despite what people may think, you guys have a ton of great stuff in the area along with Busch, so definitely worth the cost of a rental car and the trip out to Richmond.
Dragon Khan Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Let's arrange that, Jason I have the same feeling as Brent, on this park. A bit letdown in 2008 (except for Rebel Yell) but I'd love to go back and get the missed Togo credit too !
Intimidator305 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 ^ Shockwave is actually fun the first half of the ride, until the helix that is, then it is rough. It looks great though now with its new paint! As far as your visits in 2008, the park was still in the "transition period" from Paramount to Cedar Fair... CF has done a fantastic job fixing the place up over the past couple years with new paint, landscaping, pavers, retracking, ect. KD should be a fantastic park in about 3 more years if CF keeps up the great work of slowly but surely, paying attention to the details and charm of the park. But besides the little stuff, KD is worth a trip just to check out 305 because it is seriously that amazing!
