thrillrider Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 This is not very coaster related, but fun to look at none the less. I work in the auto industry, and thought it would be fun to check out the 2010 international auto show in Detroit. There were lots of great concept cars, and several models of the cars that I am currently working on(the sonic and Buick verano). The displays this year were just amazing and fun to visit. I hope you enjoy my pictures. There must have been a million people there, so it was hard to get a lot of close up pictures of some of the cars. This is where this trip report takes place. The first display was ford. Ford had some interesting cars and interesting colors. Another ford car. Looking over at the dodge/ jeep area. Where is the rest of the car? This is one of the cars I am working on...the sonic. This is the hatchback version. This car is Kaitlyn aproved. Even has a nifty place to store your sunglasses. Here is the 4 door version of the sonic(my favorate). Nice looking car. I like!!! They had all differant colors and models of the sonic on display. They even had a DJ. I want one!!! They have differant decals you can put on the car if you like. Dr dre...... The sportster model. Yep.... Another fine looking car. A cadillac race car? Sweet The floor, the walls, and the celing were all L.E.D lights. It was pretty trippy walking into this display. Can't remember what car this was, but it was cool. Parking was at a premium. The paintjob on this car was amazing. It even had portholes for windows. Another killer display. This was a concept car by toyota. It was like a living room on wheels. Inside of the car. The new prius. I don't get this....... Mr beans car. The place was packed. Some random electric cart. They were making fudge. It looked really good, but it had a $15 price tag, so I passed. Want one of these? Then it's gonna cost you. Overview of display. It's not backlot stunt coaster, it's mini cooper. Too small and overpriced if you ask me. Just the right size for her... Beemer was there as well. This is what I want. They had a few to choose from. If I save up, by the time I retire I should have enough for the base model bentley. This one was just calling my name. Tesla....not the 80's band, but the car. They did not have a price tag on any of these. I bet they cost more than I could ever afford. The "not so" smart cars. This tiny ass car........ Only gets 41 mpg. The engine is in the trunk The rides were downstairs. You get to ride in an electric car on a indoor track. They woulden't let me drive though. We got to ride in the volt. It was a nice car, and VERY quiet. They also had s.u.v's that you could ride in as well. Nothing says "car show", like wind generators... This benz was a concept car. It was electric. This looked like a james bond car. Interesting... WTF???? On the way out, I snapped a few shots of the police concept cars. That's it from the auto show....Hope you enjoyed it.
thrillrider Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 I would not mind taking my next coaster trip in one of those Bentleys.
ParkTrips Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Tesla....not the 80's band, but the car. Right, cause they totally named it after the band, and not the one of the most important electrical engineers of all time! They did not have a price tag on any of these. I bet they cost more than I could ever afford. They run about $100k if I recall correctly WTF???? It means you can use it in HOV lanes in California, even if you are driving solo
Amy Baby Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 the display that had all the led lights was the lexus brand. all of the displays were pretty awesome. it was a blast. can't wait to go to it again next year!!! we should get a TPR themed car in there somehow.
Snowboard246 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Those cars look awesome!! The new Boss looks amazing as well as the new police interceptor
thrillrider Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 A few pictures of the smart display that I forgot to add. They now have electric scooters. And a electric bike?
imawesome1124 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 These are some really interesting cars. Personally though, I prefer classic car shows. Nothing like the growl of a souped up Chevelle or the striking two-tone paint job of the classic Bel-Air.
thrillrider Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 I agree... The classics will always be better than anything new.
DJeXeL Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Thanks for the pictures! I've been in love with the CTS-V since it was released in 2004. Looking sexy!
mcjaco Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I don't get this....... Charge your cell phone, for no charge.
thrillrider Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 That's what I thought, but they did not work.
ebl Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I got to drive a 2005 CTS-V back in late 2004. It was kind of strange driving a Cadillac with a manual transmission, but with 400 HP under the hood (at the time), that sucker moved rather quickly. All we have in Southern California is the L.A. Auto Show in late November, and it isn't anything like the shows they have in Detroit. To me that's odd because of SoCal's car culture. But we don't have the greatest facility to hold such a show. Our Convention Center is actually pretty small, and half of it may be torn down if the new football stadium goes in near Staples Center. I never get tired of looking at cars. Thanks for sharing this report. Eric
