Sky Pilot

I was going through some old pictures, and found some I had taken of Kings Dominion. I scanned them and I posted them over on my website.

 

My favorite pics I found were of the awesome Sky Pilot ride. This was one of the best rides I've ever been on, and it's a shame they are all gone (in the U.S.) now.

I rode Skyhawk at PGA and didn't really enjoy it. Knott's had one (XK-1) and I never did get on it.

 

Didn't Sky Pilot have some kind of accident, leading to its demise?

I think the real name for this ride is the Intamin Flight Trainer.

 

At at PKI in the 90s some drunk girl fell to her death on one.

Thanks for the memories. I rode this ride on my first visit to Kings Dominion back in 1998. I think it was taken out shortly after that. I was kinda bummed that it would only let me hang upside down for a short period of time, then automatically returned to right side up. The ride was a lot more fun than a Chance Aviator, thats for sure!

I seriously enjoyed XK-1. Nice pics, I haven't seen too many pics of the Flight Trainers.

Hmmm....still in High Sierra wilderness mode....saw it and first thought of the flower.

I remember that they had one at PGA, though I never got the chance to go on it.

 

Other than a "Drunk Girl" somehow falling out of it, was their some additional safety issue?

 

It looks like it would be a fun ride!

For some reason, I thought that the entire ride assembly fell due to a malfunction and a bunch of people were hurt and at least one was killed.

 

Perhaps I heard wrong.

Where was Sky Pilot located? was it located where Drop Zone is now?
