mcjaco Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Flock- Downloaded and unzipped fine, but trying to open it in RCT2 gave the error "Unable to load file... file contains invalid data" From my understanding, that means that the creator didn't package the file correctly for exporting. There's custom scenery, that's needed for it to open properly.

There's custom scenery, that's needed for it to open properly. For the most part, yes, that is the case; however, even with the file 'exported,' some files (mostly custom flat rides) cannot be exported. Typical it is Ja227's Intamin Looper trains, and all of the Amazing Earl custom rides. Testing wise, all the RCT2 files I have downloaded have not given me any problems whatsoever.
A.J. Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Perhaps there should be a prominent warning on one of the pages. Something like this: MAKE SURE YOU SELECT "EXPORT PLUG-IN OBJECTS" OR [insert TPR member's name here] WILL RAPE YOU IN YOUR SLEEP! ...or something similar.
robbalvey Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 I'm just getting caught up on this after being out for a week and I just want to ask a couple of questions before going back to the developer about this problem: 1. Have we been testing current files or older files? 2. If they are older files, perhaps we should be testing with a new file, one that is known to work, and do some solid testing on that to see if we can get the 0 byte or any other error to happen. 3. Matt, can you give me a list of any changes you think we should add to the exchange based on some of the testing and feedback over the last 10 days? Thanks guys! --Robb
A.J. Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 1. Have we been testing current files or older files? 2. If they are older files, perhaps we should be testing with a new file, one that is known to work, and do some solid testing on that to see if we can get the 0 byte or any other error to happen. There seem to be both "current" and "old" files lurking in the exchange. The "old" files have the file name followed by a number (file_name_###), and they tend to be the ones that don't work (0KB) depending on who's downloading them. The "current" files have a number followed by the file name (###_file_name), and all of those files that I have downloaded have worked, save for the RCT2 parks with objects not exported. Weren't the "old" files put into the exchange before beta testing began?
robbalvey Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 ^ Yes, that is correct. That's what I'm trying to figure out. If it's just the older files that are having the problems, we can edit each one of those. If we are still having problems with a brand new file that's being uploaded today, then that's another issue...
mcjaco Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 ^ That's what I was noticing as well. Anything I added before the Beta seems to be problematic on some systems.
A.J. Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 No matter when it was uploaded (be it today, yesterday, or in November), a file with the "file_name_###" name has resulted in a 0KB download. For example, Mountaineer (uploaded Dec 29) works on both of my systems, while OverDose (uploaded Dec 28) does not work on either of them.
mcjaco Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hadn't noticed any file names with the number at the end since the Beta went up.....interesting.
A.J. Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Is there any way to pinpoint how the files end up with the number-at-the-end designations?
robbalvey Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Ok, guys, sorry for the delay on this. Been working through a few things and I think we've got the 0 bytes bug figured out. For example, using "OverDose" I am now able to download the track just fine. Please give it a try: http://themeparkreview.com/game_exchange/track.php?id=822 As you can see, I was able to grab the track, and I'll even re-upload it here. Let me know if any of you guys are still having problems. You might need to clear your browser's cache to get it to work, though. --Robb overdose_636.nltrack
A.J. Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 YES! Victory! Downloaded and working perfectly! Something I found - is there any way to detect whether a member is logged into the forum when downloading a game exchange file? It's not bad, just a minor annoyance that I have to log into the exchange when I'm already logged into the forum.
robbalvey Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 ^ It's not possible...at least not right now. One thing I WILL get fixed though is when you're not logged in, and you click on a track, and it takes you to the login screen, that it takes you BACK to the track you were just at instead of taking you back to the main index page.

THAT would be grand as well.

This has been tweaked and fixed. Can someone test and let me know if it now takes you back to the track you were looking at BEFORE you logged in instead of back to the index screen? We are getting a bit closer to getting this thing ready for "real" use. One thing we WILL need are some people to help with Game Exchange moderation. We'd love to have some enthusiastic people help us promote it, use it to host challenges, fix problems, edit posts, or any other idea you might have with it. If you're interested, please PM myself and mcjaco and let us know! --Robb
djbrcace1234 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Just worked for me. Seems like most of the bugs are out of it, but I still have not had any problems thus far.
QueerRudie Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Hey Robb- Just did a random sample test of 10 different files - logging in and logging out. All passed the 'return to the file I selected' without fail. Also tried using the lookup by name, log in, and return to the same name- it also worked well. R.D.
A.J. Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Robb/mcjaco, in case my PM didn't go through for some reason, I'm on board.
mcjaco Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 ^ Got it. We're working on some stuff to get ready. I think I have my extra "helpers" picked out right now, but depending on their availability I may need more. :: Then Exchange will really start hoppin'!
Yamez Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I uploaded my contest entry without issue, everything seems to be working perfectly as far as I can tell. Not sure if this is intended, but I had to log into the game exchange even after taking the link from the forums. Are we going to be able to have the game exchange be able to remember if we're logged into the forums or is that not going to be possible?
mcjaco Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 ^ That is something Robb was looking into. So, yes.
robbalvey Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 If anyone is interested in being a "Games Forum Moderator" please PM myself and mcjaco ASAP! I will say that we would prefer all of our moderators to be 18 years old. Thank you! --Robb
robbalvey Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) ^ Well, I'd say since you couldn't even follow directions on how to respond "Please PM me...", the answer is no. Edited February 6, 2011 by robbalvey
