Inferno Insane
This weekend I went to Suffolk/Norfolk to visit Pleasurewood Hills / Joyland and Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach to do some Coaster Whoreing with friends I know who brought some of there friends too and all had a great time . After waking up at 4:30am, then was a quick rush to get the first train of the day at 5:17am. Quickly arrive on time and was off to waterloo arrived at 6ish, then in a hurry dash on the tube trying to get the 6:30am from Liverpool Street to Norwich, sadly just miss it with only 2 min passed. After a quick breakfast at McDonald’s and checking lots of boards got on the 7am to Norwich which left 3mins late. After getting scared (was sleep) by the ticket person and try to get back to sleep (Dam Sun) arrive at Norwich 8:50 and somehow regain the 3mins lost. A quick dash to the ticket office with a slow queue, gave up with that and met mine friends and there friends and got on the 8:57 to Lowestoft. Arrive at Lowestoft about 9:30am then walked to bus station in town to get Pleasurewood Hills. After a trek from Tesco bus stop finally arrive at Pleasurewood Hills, after getting in with some discount voucher. We all headed for Enigma a Schwarzkopf / Jumbo V. Great ride with some extreme head choppers cause by the Supports when flying pass thought I was going to nearly hit one due to mine height. Most of us all had two more rides due to the capacity only holding 8 people a train. Next up was Mouse Trap a Reverchon Spinning Coaster and being told it one of the best out there and look quite new still, only running four cars out of six the queue still move well and was on within 15mins. Somehow we had got the weight just right with 3 of us and didn’t stop spinning till the end. Then amazed when we got off the ride op said “This Must Be the Best Ride on a Reverchon You Ever Had”. Nice touch I thought you hardly hear ride op say Manufactures names, must have been a Coaster Enthusiast. Lastly it was time to tick off the last coaster in the park called Snake In The Grass woooo, just a normal Tivoli - Large wasn’t great but wasn’t bad the lift hill tunnel with lighting was interesting but trees around the track made what the ride was. Which cause a tree grabbing frenzy on both ride we had which I think I clearly won with heap I grab lol. Then walked round the park seeing what to ride next, 5 of us went for Wave Breaker but due to some crappy safely rule no single riders so one had to miss out, Thought it be like Depth Charge but much faster & steeper and nearly also hit the wall. Did the Miniature Railway which was quite fun and very long. All of us did Woody's Fairytale Fantasy and thought it was rubbish, Three of us went on Wizzy Dizzy (KMG Afterburner) none of us were impress with it only went to full height twice and span was very tame. Started to rain so took cover on Annie Oakley Railway which I believe went 6.6mph at some point Wow. Rain was getting heavy so took cover in some shop looked round, one of mine friends, friends had to go (soz forgotten the name). So after the rain slowly stopping did Mouse Trap again which took a while due to the weather and sending one car out at a time, wasn’t as good as before. Went over to Enigma again then saw a good few people walk out the queue, due to the weather they couldn’t run it so close it. After that thought it best time to head off and go to Tesco for something eat and get the bus to Great Yarmouth. Here some photos I took. Enjoy till the next part (Joyland). Edit - Ok the Photos are in the wrong order (the top are the Bottom and Bottom are the top ) (Ok they changed) Close Due to Rain. Train stoped on lift hill. Happy Train! I beleive this was the turn doing 6.6mph Lol! Eeeek Eeeek! Ever hear of some Oil? Wizzy Dizzy KMG Afterburner This is the tamest and worst one I EVER been on, It was Poor! Musical Van Boring! Duck! Inferno Insane
Next Part (Joyland). After getting a small bus and going down lots of small country tracks ect, finally made it to Great Yarmouth and walked to Joyland Amusement Park which is near the coast. Wasn’t here for very long as it was pay per ride, we all got 6 tokens (60p each) and did the Snails first. Fun ride with some strange bunnyhops and drops but not sure if you can class it as a coaster though. Next up was a real coaster named Spook Express which is on top of a roof themed around a tree, nice hidden helix in the dark shame about only getting two circuits one or two more would have been nice . Lastly was Tyrolean Tubtwist a Virginia Reel again which was fun and span quite wildly in areas, but again not sure how this be classed as a coaster, as the cars were powered motored and span controlled. After being there for about 15-20mins was time to head off to Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach . Some more photos I took. Enjoy till the final part (G.Y Pleasure Beach). Coaster Or Not? Time To Spin! Shockwave
Great Photos! Was thinking about whoring myself out at Pleasurewood and Great Yarmouth this summer, but when I heard that Ocean Beach in Rhyl might be closing, I decided that I'm gonna head there to get the credits before it's gone forever. SLUSHIE
That wild mouse looks exactly like the ones and the Animal Kingdom. You know it's really sad when a park like Disney has clones in non-Disney parks.
Ork1927
Wow, I remember that snail ride and the tubs from when I was a kid going to Yarmouth with my parents!! Sorry for such a lame first post but I had a mjor flashback there. Pity I'm on the other side of the country otherwise I'd be planning a trip this week-end. Hicko
Good trip report. I think the guy on the spinning mouse may be a enthusiast as you say because Shane Whiting who posts on Rideas operates that ride at Pleasurewood Hills so it might of been him. I remember Joyland as I used to go there as a kid. It's a great little park and the Snails and the Tubs in particular are my faves 8) Anyway we wanna see the Pleasure Beach pics as the Scenic there was my first ever coaster. Inferno Insane
Here's The last section - G.Y Pleasure Beach (Sorry for the delay :?) After a brief long walk along the coast, made it to the Pleasure Beach. Got Wrist banded and stamped then headed to rollercoaster. Along the way pass the Big Apple so tick it off. Not much to say about it apart from, trim a bit too much on the drop, three circuits was way too much but best of all was a Bird nesting in the apple which was quite funny for some reason. After the pure excitement of the big apple was time for some old classic wood. Joined a quite long queue due to one train operation, so had to wait every 2 or so trains to get on. Eventually got on and what a good Scenic Railway this one is. All three of the brakeman’s we had were absolutely great, hardly using the brake at all through the first half till after the 2nd main drop then braking time to time. Bit on airtime in the middle section of the ride, and speed on the 2nd drop is what made me like this more than Margate’s (Only done two scenic). After few rides on rollercoaster we all went on the monorail which was quite uncomfortable due to having a seat divider which was a tight fit around the bum area , took some photos for rollercoaster which was quite tricky due to trees and timing it right with the train . Next up was Haunted Hotel your bog standard ghost train, which was pretty lame until the X-rated part vampire thing which I had a laugh about with myself. We were going to do the 3d Fun House but was close due to staff were on loo break (too much info I know, thought that to), so headed back to rollercoaster again for a few rides. After soon queue building up we all did went various ways, Me & Chell went off to ride the (KMG) Move It which was quite forceful but found it quite dull and very short (been on better). Walking back to see the others near rollercoaster pass Sky Drop and had a quick ride. Was fun, bit dull and bouncy but yet again a very short ride time. As time was getting on and we all needed to get trains back, quickly did some last goes on the Scenic. Which was still running brilliant with mine last go at the back, the standup airtime took me by surprise. To finish the day off we did the 3d Fun House, which was fun and bit like HPH at Chessington but very dark with crazy steps/ramps ect. Had to cheat on some parts though as I thought some crazy area felt dangerous :o . After a nice warm up with some toasted sandwiches, we started to walk back along the road looking at various things (See the Photo’s) to the Great Yarmouth station which took ages as it was out of town. Here’s the end trip report, won’t bore you with the trip home/getting the wrong tube back ect. Had a great time and to end with a high, enjoy the photos. (Massive Scenic Photo Alert ) Rollercoaster. Musical Pete
Wow lovely, Toby. I've not been to Great Yarmouth yet, infact I've not been to Margate either but that's not relevent. I can't wait to get to GYPB hopefully next year, Rollercoaster looks lovely from every single photo I've seen over the last several years. I even prefer the look of the newer fibreglass trains over the traditional scenic ones actually, they look funky. I love the long open station too, with the curved exit/entry ramp. It's such a shame coaster stations are big dull boxes or sheds these days, with no integrated transfer/storage and no lovely curvey ramps. I love contemporary deco type architecture! As for the Disney mouse comment - that's an off the shelf Reverchon model, many of them around the world. I should think Michael Isner is to blame..! Musical Pete
Hmm, there's one of those in BPB's Ghost Train (cheekilly fitted when AT did Duel, with that same nuclear type bit!). That Trotter's van is funny . It's however not a van infact but a standard Robin Reliant car.. Del & Rodney (or Rooney in one episode ) had a proper Reliant van. Ah well, best stop myself turning full-on bitchy enthusiast, as this time it's not even about a ride or park! Yeay, more lovely scenic/Rollercoaster photos. I want to see that bin in person! Hicko
Excellent stuff. As I've said that Scenic was my first coaster which was years ago now. I went back to Yarmouth about 2 years ago and I thought the ride was still awesome. As you say the 2nd drop does kick ass and the Station is cool. I remember that windmill building (Where the adventure golf now is) when I was a kid as it was an indoor adventure playground and my parents would leave me and my sister there for a few hours while they spent time on thier own. Must be about 20 years ago now! Brings it all back.......................................
