davisal771 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I wasn't really going for anything specific with this one, but I after I finished the track work, I figured it was good enough to try custom supports. I think the supports turned out *okay* for a first time, but I found them hard to do. Overall, I'm happy with the whole coaster, just a little bit frustrated because I don't know how I could improve the supporting. This coaster has, in order, Vertical loop, overbanked turn, strange overbanked 90 degree turn thing, zero g roll, Fail immelman, Great corkscrew, corkscrew with strange quirk at the end, vertical loop. A few strange elements on this one Here goes... untitled-100612225527000.bmp First drop goodness and loopy sexiness untitled-100612225545001.bmp Strange overbanked turn thingy untitled-100612225601002.bmp Zero GEEE and fail immelman untitled-100612225630003.bmp 1 Sexy cork and 1 semi fail cork untitled-100612225646004.bmp Tiny loop + lift hill untitled.nltrack The track
themeparkman25 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Though you clearly put in a valiant effort in creating this coaster, there is a lot of work that needs to be done to even closely resemble a real coaster. First, you need to tunnel test your coasters. This means put the entire coaster in a tunnel and see if there are any supports, scenery and track the "violate" the tunnel. Right off the bat, you have a tree growing in the middle of the track! This needs to go, as do numerous other violations. From there, I think you need to look at the actual construction of a B&M lift hill and then build yours to resemble that. First, your lift hill is abnormally steep (you're close to 45, I think real lifts are about 30). Second, your transition at the top of the lift is way too dramatic, it should be a much larger radius. In terms of the rest of the coaster, here are my suggestions on how to improve. I compliment you on custom supporting the coaster, but there are a lot of ways to improve. Like the lift, I think it would be beneficial for you to look at real coasters and see how they are supported. There are lots of areas of the track that I believe are very undersupported, but also current supports that would not be able to support the track and the forces. I also noticed on the lift hill that the supports aren't vertical top to bottom, fix that! The track was also really pumpy and jerky, something that would be fixed with just some minor tweaking. Take the time to ride the coaster in the front and back and realize where the track is not smooth. Work on those things and you will be set!
davisal771 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 ^ I hadn't thought of that tunnel idea. I'm going to use that from now on I wasn't really going for a full B&M clone, I would have put a pre-drop. I just build the coaster and saw it semi-resembled one. I agree about the lift hill transition. Later today if I have time I'm going to work on it. I really tried to get the supports vertical, I just couldn't! Any ideas? I'll try again, anyway. Thanks for the tips, I'm gonna try to fix some of those problem spots. (maybe fix the Immelman). If I get it to a better point, I may post my new track
mightbeawannabe Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 One of the most helpful things is to zoom in as close as you can in side views, both x and y axis. this should get those supports straightened out. Also, there are a number of support tutorials out there that show you how to make good looking supports simply. But, make sure the tutorial is in the B&M style. You don't want Intamin supports on there!
themeparkman25 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 ^^Um, have the main support column run from the track all the way down to the ground, and then build the diagonal ones off that. Or, use a vertical bar. Or double click the node and just enter the value. I totally forgot about the immelman. You definitely need to bail on the transport track and devices at the top.
davisal771 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 ^^ How would I zoom in? That seems like it would be VERY helpful. EDIT: I figured it out. I had NEVER seen those buttons before. Those will be IMMENSELY helpful in the future. ^Yes, I was extremely disappointed with the immelman. I might just take it out and replace it with something better.

You can zoom out using the minus. If you use a mouse with a scroll wheel, that does the job too.
davisal771 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 I find it bizarre that I've had No Limits for years and I've never noticed that.
gisco Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 One more suggestion for you. Upload your pictures in .jpg format instead of .bmp. The files are much smaller and will load faster.
CorkscrewFoley Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 One more suggestion for you. Upload your pictures in .jpg format instead of .bmp. The files are much smaller and will load faster. I dunno, I thought they were jpg, they loaded lightning quick for my comp...
Griffonluv Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 The biggest thing you need to work on is your shaping. It looks quite bad in some areas and slightly off in others.
CCJared Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Guy's it's his first attempt. Let him get some practice and learn the interface first.
davisal771 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 After hours of frustration in improving this, I'm gonna give up and start working on a new one. I seriously wish they had dive machines in no limits. Thanks for the criticism and tips everyone. I'm sure I'll use them on my next coaster
CorkscrewFoley Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Good luck with your next endeavour, and remember that whatever you picked up here will help you on your next project. Keep up the work, dude.
Griffonluv Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 If you're really that set to make a dive machine, just use a 3row floorless design.
davisal771 Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 ^^ I feel that seeing the support pictures will help me. I'm really set to make this dive machine ^Yeah, I had seen people use that type when I was just lurking around the forums and not posting

I dunno, I thought they were jpg, they loaded lightning quick for my comp... check the properties, they are .bmp. They take up way to much space on our server and take to much time to load.
davisal771 Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 ^ I've began converting the pictures to Jpeg.
