OK, first, the pics, and then, if anyone else has a hot tub, I need advice. I'm going by what I can find on the net, and it's not much help. First, the pictures... then the next post will be my questions for those that know...

Nice clean water, but I got the Ring! :(

After adding bromine granules for super oxidation, and bromine tablets in the floater, water cleared up in just a couple minutes.

I used a Hot Tub Kit, which said to put in the "PH balance" and wait for water to clear. This is what I woke up to, yellow water, and hot tub oil scum.

Tap water is so crummy...

I'm filling up the tub last night.

So, here's what I found out on the net AFTER this fiasco, and by doing things myself...

1)I shouldn't have waited for the PH Balance to take effect before adding the bromine. I should have just waited 15 minutes, and did the bromine procedure.

2)I need scumballs/scumbugs to absorb oil and other human excretion.

3)My PH was balanced, even before the water was clear, and adding the bromine 10 hours later.

4)Getting the oil ring off is not easy. I used a scrunge, but it got coated quickly.

My questions are...

When you start your tub, what procedures do you use? (Chems, filter, etc.)

Should water circulator be on ALL the time? (There's no off-switch or timer on my control pannel that I see, it's an older tub.)

Can I get rid of the "ring" without emtying the tub?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

My friends take order calls for this company. I wish I knew more to help you out, but I have looked through their in-print catalog which had a section for spa maintanence and everything you need to get started and keep it looking good.

Also Pinch-a-Penny has some info in .pdf format

I couldn't find anything about that ring you had tho. Our spa doesn't have a timer. It does have an on-off switch so when it's on, the bubble jets are going and the filter is working. It has an automatic on-switch to turn on to maintain water temperature but that's it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks everyone.

My goofball partner decided to go in it while I was at work, and he used a USED scrunge-pad to clean off the ring, and totally threw off the balance of the water. Now, PH and Bromine is OFF THE CHART! Then he turned up the heat to 102, left it there, and when I came home, the circuit breaker "opened".

Anyway, the ring is cause by body soil. Apparently, when we got the tub, the previous owner didn't take care of it, and the pipes were full of crud. There is a enzyme spray that takes it off, and you don't have to empty the tub to use it.

Looks like i'm going chem-shopping tomorrow. (sigh)

Nice pictures. When I see that, I think I need a hot tub, too! I can not wait to see the first pics, with you and some hot chicks in the tub.
