Airtime&Gravity Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Media and entertainment group Essel is planning to develop an 800 acre entertainment and tourism zone near Mumbai, a senior company official said Thursday. 'We are setting up an entertainment and tourism development zone near Mumbai. It will be an 800 acre theme park. The details of the project are yet to be finalised,' Essel group chairman Subhash Chandra told reporters here. According to him, the project will be implemented by a new company which will be incorporated over a period of time and the outlay is also yet to be finalised. 'The entertainment and tourism zone will have an amusement park as well as studios for carrying out post production work for foreign film companies,' Subhash Chandra said, adding this venture will be different from what is being planned in Kharghar near Mumbai. At Kharghar, Essel, along with a partner, had announced plans of starting a Bollywood theme park comprising of hotels, eco parks, multiplexes and film studios spread over 250 acres. Chandra also said group company Essel Infrastructure is looking at getting into water distribution as well as setting up of desalination plants. Essel Infrastructure has won road projects measuring 1,700 km on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis and the company's order book position is around Rs.4,000 crore, he said. Link
triggernel Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I would assume that the 800 acres must include some sort of Animal Safari, as the park is supposed to be more than twice the size of Cedar Point, unless I am missing something?
larrygator Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 The term "theme park" is used liberally in the press and could include "anything" entertainment related such as: restaurants, theaters, ride areas, eco parks, shopping, movie studio
jmicha Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 There is definitely a market for it in a city like Mumbai. With the way it has been expanding as of late and the already MASSIVE population of the city and the surrounding area this could be interesting.
