Koolkid
Fortune is a new Intamin Mega-Lite/Family Coaster It is sort of inspired by Th13teen at Alton Towers. Firstly I know the supports aren't very good but I was so pleased with the track I didn't want to spend a huge amount of time on the supports. Enjoy There has actually been a colour change since those screenshots. Any comments appreciated. newtrack35.nltrack Edited April 11, 2010 by Koolkid
dr.gumbo
Pretty decent. The supports were lousy and the shaping was a bit off but nice attempt. Good stuff: Some of the elements were fun such as the twisty hill; the attempted heart-lining at places was nice; fast pacing. Bad stuff: Too many lifts hills which killed the good pacing; quite a few pumps especially in the helix elements due to un-circular shaping; the forces were messy and often spiked; the pre-fab supports were lazy; the lack of scenery was disappointing; the heartline, though good in places, was none-existent in others. As I said, good attempt, but it needs a bit of work in places.
mcjaco
Pretty decent. The supports were lousy and the shaping was a bit off but nice attempt. Guys, lousy is a very poor choice of words for critiquing. Especially without any real reasoning to as why it's "lousy." All I ask is that when you give out criticism, you explain why you feel something is "lousy."
dr.gumbo
I said later on that using pre-fab supports was lazy. Not only that, he himself said he didn't bother with them, so I'm not sure why I'm getting criticised here.
Koolkid
^ That is true, although the reason for not doing them wasn't so much me being lazy it's that I really am poor at supporting and the supports would be almost/just as good if I used those pre-fabs. Anyway thanks for the feedback, I am going to keep working on it as I do really like the coaster. Think I may replace one of the lifts with a "launch like feature" Thanks again. dr.gumbo
Yeah, a launch would be a good idea.
Koolkid
I've decided to make this topic, one full of all of my coasters. Personally I felt I got as far as I could with the above coaster and so are carrying on with another from a while ago. It is a fairly large, launched spinner. I think the layout, g-forces and elements etc are all pretty good but I am really having trouble smoothing and supporting and I was wondering if anyone fancied collaborating, or even just having a look at it and giving me some tips. Thanks newtrack3.nltrack

Thanks Ok, I downloaded it and custom supported a small portion of it just to show you. This is very simple. A free node can be put anywhere. Then you can click it and drag any size support to any other free node. Get It? If now I'll create a little tutorial.

Koolkid
^^^ I sort of get it, but whenever I have, it really has looked terrible. I have tried, but the shaping etc is always wrong But yeah, thanks
Koolkid
Forest Flurry! This is a fun Maurer Sohne Spinner, I have custom supported this coaster as well as adding a few bits of my custom scenary! Have fun, it's definitely my joint favourite out of the ones I've created. Edit: Just realised there is a tree in the station!, how did I miss that!?!? Sorry Enjoy Forest Flurry.nlpack

haux
You really, really need to work on your terrain. Supports too. The supports on that block brake are a little inadequate.
CoasterGeek101
The supports look good, I agree with haux, you need to work on the terrain. Also, don't double post, the mods will delete the double post.

Koolkid
Been doing quite well lately going back and finishing off a few old projects. Here is the most recent SandStorm! It was a B&M Floorless but felt it suited being an X Car a bit better. Also replaced the Lift with a Launch. Enjoy I know my supporting isn't great but it is improving, please rate the track istself, which on this one I think is actually pretty good. I'm really pleased with the layout and believe it is under the same category as Formule X or G-Force. haux
That turn looks pretty painful. Edit: OK. So it wasn't too bad. You're right about the supports. You need to work on those. The supports in the corkscrew are especially weird. The only real flaws are the supports, bumpiness and terrain. You can feel every single control point. You should work on your smoothing. Your terrain's just weird. That pointy peak at the beginning of the ride isn't too realistic. You can smooth terrain fairly realistically with the Terraformer. Your magnetic brakes at the end act as a block. Magnetic brakes can't completely stop a train. You need tires or a brake segment to act as the block. Magnets can only slow a train. But the layout's pretty good, and it's a pretty fun coaster. Edit2: After riding it a few times, I've noticed more. There are some bad G spikes in the back seat. Your airtime hill and the hill over the station go to negative-2 G's, which is way too much. There's also a lateral spike in a turn of about 2 G's. E-stop also fails if you stop the train in the launch. It clears the launch but not the hill, so it rolls back. The block is clear, so the other train leaves the station, and the two crash in the launch segment. Maybe don't make that a block segment.
Koolkid
I was actually really pleased with how that turn ended up, pretty smooth, good forces and exciting/unique. Anyway, thanks very much for the feedback, I have gone and improved everything you mentioned about the coaster. I attempted to improve the terrain but couldn't get the hang of terraformer, I will keep trying in future but for now I couldn't get it, it's still better than before though. All G-Spikes are now gone too (Can't believe I missed them!) and the ride is in general a lot smoother. haux
The ride still bumps around like crazy. Using the smoother won't fix everything, as you can see. It just takes time to learn how to smooth. You've still got a G spike in that camelback in the back seat. It hits minus 2 G's for a split second, and it's sustained at minus 1.8 for a bit longer. You also still need to work on your supports. Some are pretty weird. You have almost no lateral support, and your supports in some turns are angled with no vertical support. Terrain's still weird too. themeparkman25
Technical-This has been said before, but the trackwork could definitely use a little lovin'. It wasn't the pumpiest I have ever seen, but it had some interesting forces for sure. As Haux said, there was quite the spike on top of the camelback. In all, when you try to build your coasters, pay attention to the forces the track creates. On another note, the supports could definitely use some work in terms of accuracy. I thought the lift hill was weird though, that there was brakes, kickers and LIMs, I mean I ultimately thought that you could have gotten away with a chain hill. Adrenaline-It had some interesting elements and some fun moments of airtime, inversions and twisty! You did a nice job for having a smaller coaster in stature, that still packed some nice punches. Originality- It reminded of Formula X (I think that is the name of that other X car), but that is a good thing! Like I said, you had a nice selection of elements that really did make it fun. Koolkid
Thanks very much for the comments on my last coaster I have decided to continue with a coaster I started a good while ago, I currently have the layout and it's G's are in general ok, I was wondering if anyone would like to collaborate on it/ help improve it, possibly change parts of the coaster that aren't as good as could be, or just in general helping to finish it to a high standard. It's a really, quite unique X Car coaster. X Car3-100424101908000.bmp X Car3-100424102448003.bmp
