NathanT32 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 (edited) In 1920 a German family moved from the Hill Country of Texas to the Piney Woods, the father had a vision to open a park in East Texas. The parked closed in 1942 due to World War 2 hindering park attendance. I had heard stories of this park but there was no evidence that it exsisted. I did some research and finally found a Cousin of the family. He only had two pictures of two of the coasters the others were destroyed in a fire at the familys house. The pictures were taken after the coasters were built so you can see there were no stations yet or paths, here are the pics. Piney Woods Side Friction Coaster taken in 1920 after being built. Taken from a Bell Tower the cousin said. Piney Woods Park Flying Turns picture taken 1931 Now lets fast foward to now, March 25th 1966, I was finally able to buy all the land the former park was on today. Bad news is well let me show you, the woods have overgrown the property really hiding all evidence of the park. There was once an out and back wooden coaster but it got burned down in 1955 by an arsonist, why would somebody do that. Now to the photos the Side Friction and the flying turns are still up but both will need some major restoration to get them working and I will get those historic rides open! The stations were not there either guess the weather got to them and Grass has taken over the paths because all the paths were dirt. Side Friction needs some TLC! So does the Flying Turns, taken by a Helicopter. Edited March 26, 2010 by mcjaco
dmaxsba2408 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Am loving the use of the Side-Friction coaster in your park, never see enough of the classics. How does it looks in a white?
CorkscrewFoley Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I think since I have been posting here, I've not once seen anyone use the side friction. Tis a shame about the state of both coasters...
NathanT32 Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 Side Fricton looks great in white, and thanks guys this park will be interesting. Next update will be later today about to go work on the park now.
NathanT32 Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Well here is the latest updates, even though I bought the land I have a board of directors I got to go through on construction, they let me rebuild the bell towers even though slightly smaller but I wanted to do a German Entrance they said Americas Birthday is coming up in 10 years they wanted a Colonial Main Street feel so I had to cave in a little. So here is what I got so far on the entrance they will be laying paths soon and getting all the Main Street Open. Main Entrance so far.
NathanT32 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Well been working alot I finally worked on Piney Woods Park and getting close to opening its coming to the end of 1966 and the park will open April of 1967. Onto the shots. Â Â
the ghost Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Awesome. Very nice detail in your screens, keep it up!
HLM Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Looking good! Only thing I don't like in the screens, are the trees in the middle of the main street. There are too many trees there, I would make the path bigger, and less trees in the middle. Other than that, it looks good. Like the entrance!
NathanT32 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 Well I lost my HD so am starting over on Piney Woods Park, luckily there is photos of the entrance so I can rebuild it like that but Main Street is going to change a little.
NathanT32 Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Ok sorry for bringing up an old topic but finally rebuilt the main entrance to Pine Woods Park, I decided to go with the Main Street look and feel and think the park will turn out great. Here is the first pictures of the rebuilt park.
KI Kidd Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Looks great so far! Looking forward to watching this develop.
