NEWS: Paramount may build theme park in Murcia, Spain

Recommended Posts

Looks like a good start for a park!

However, the sizzle real of Paramount ip properties show's just how thin that catalogue is for adaptation into a theme park setting. Godfather, Forest Gump? Titanic? Saturday Night Fever?I think the problem is in general that most of Paramounts big pop culture movies they can't exploit for the theme park. Marvel comics, Transformers, Indianna Jones, Dreamworks, etc. Kind of shows when they choose Rango as a headline character.

In future presentations, I would leave the films out of the presentation, as the park design itself is quite nice and compares quite favorably to Universal's parks.

If this becomes a reality, the atmosphere will certainly blow 90% of the rest of the world's parks out of the water. It looks like they really want to create a legitimate theme park here, and ditch the generic vibes that come from all the American properties.

And from the looks at it, they're looking at a Vekoma roller-skater for the Woodland area, a Vekoma mine train for the Rango area, and an Intamin accelerator (aerial layout they give shows the same layout as Superman at Movie World in Australia) for the Future area. And a whole slew of other highly-themed attractions!

I am gonna stick my neck out and say it will be a Maurer X Car Launcher rather than an Intamin....

....I can't believe that the fact Paramount used to own Terra Mitica hasn't been a more talked about topic, they bailed out after a few years due to lack of Profit in one of the most popular tourist areas in Spain, Murcia is about an hour or so away in a part of spain that isn't fully developed into a destination yet (I have a friend with a villa in Murcia, they go once or twice a year) I am gobsmacked that Paramount believe this will be any better than Terra Mitica! (I would love to know who in the Paramount company sold this to the investors, cause I have a load of ice I would like to sell to some eskimos, I reckon I could make a profit )

Actually Disney/Universal own the rights to most of if not all the franchises you listed above except Rango.

What gets me is that Paramount isn't investing in their old Hanna Barbara/Nickelodeon franchises for this park. Especially considering Nick's popularity with the current generation of kids and the rebirth of classic HB shows like Yogi Bear and the Smurfs. The stateside parks did pretty well with both franchises (KI's especially) and it would give kids/parents a reason to visit the park (probably more than Rango would).

Hell, I'm also surprised that the park hasn't considered a Top Gun invert considering all the stateside parks had one (except KI's which was a suspended and KD, which got Volcano instead).

Maybe they should contact Shane for that Morgan thrill lift concept. That would be really neat.

Paramount will license out any character. The developers of the park choose the characters, not Paramount. I'm not an expert on Europe or Spain, but I would have to imagine that Rango is more popular there than the other popular stateside franchises you mentioned. The target audience for the park is not Americans.

I still question this park in Spain, with the instability of the Euro and Spain being one of the countries dragging down the currency. Then again, Spain still draws a lot of tourism from their Northern European neighbors.

Yeah, I mean the only reason I went with Intamin was because the aerial is the exact layout of Superman: The Escape. Of course, that's just a concept aerial, but the other two coasters look pretty accurate to their Vekoma counterparts, as if they know exactly what they want there.

Nothing new to report other than the proposed land sale is still expected to occur in one month.

http://www.propertywire.com/news/europe/spain-paramount-park-property-201201055950.html

Paramount Spanish theme park land deal due next month

Thursday, 05 January 2012

The land for the Paramount branded theme park in Murcia, Spain, will be officially signed off next month, it has been confirmed.

The Mayor of Alhama de Murcia and local estate agent Mercers said that the deal will finally silence a group of ‘doubters’ who thought the international brand might back out because of the global economic downturn.

But Proyectos Emblematicos Murcianos (PREMURSA), the promoter behind the park and lifestyle centre, confirmed that that it will purchase the land destined for the project at a cost of €15.8 million on 06 February 2012 when details of investors will be revealed.

‘Some have been sceptical about Murcia’s grand plans, understandable given the economic climate, however the Mayor has reiterated the importance of the project in guaranteeing work to a whole generation of young people growing up in Alhama de Murcia,’ said Chris Mercer, director of Mercers.

‘Likewise, if PREMURSA has officially stated its intent to spend almost €16 million next month we can be confident that they have the backing to proceed otherwise €16 million for what is essentially a rather unremarkable piece of land would be a seriously expensive error. All eyes will be on 06 February in anticipation of the biggest step forward in the project to date,’ he added.

The land in question is in Alhama de Murcia and extends to just over 1.8 million square meters of which 774,777 square meters will become the theme park and just over 1.03 million square meters become a lifestyle centre with seven hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and a business district with modern office space, an auditorium and convention centre.

As the land already has plans in place for residential development, planning paperwork should be swift to meet the strict timescales of the Paramount Licensing agreement.

Officially presented in October last year in Madrid, the Paramount branded Park requires an investment of more than one billion euros but will create 22,600 construction and operational jobs and hopes to attract upwards of three million visitors each year from around the world. Building work is expected to commence in spring 2012 with an opening date slated in for April 2015.

PREMURSA has been granted the license to construct and operate the theme park, exclusively in Spain, for an extendable 30 year period. The economic impact of the project could make up 2% of the Region’s GDP in forthcoming years.

Mercer reckons it could become a property hot spot as prices in the area, which are already at bottom prices, will soar when the park is completed. Also rental demand is likely to be higher for workers and for tourists.

Bargain in the area include a two bedroom villa with swimming pool for €125,000 and a five bedroom with pool for €235,000 close to the beaches and the new theme park site

News in today that the supposed purchase of the required plot of land to build Paramount Murcia has hit a glitch

http://www.tumbit.com/news/articles/4787-paramount-land-purchase-delayed.html

The notarized signature for the purchase of the land for the constrcution of the Paramount Pictures theme park at Alhama de Murcia, which was originally scheduled to take place on the 6th of February, has been postponed until next month.

The agreement to postpone was made jointlty between the park's developer and promoter, Premursa, and the various owners of the property in question.

The President of Premursa, Jesus Samper, said how this was due to to some of the land not being free of associated debts and as such further time was required to ensure all property was free of charges before the purchase could go ahead.

An offical statement by the company told how Samper attended the notary yesterday to sign the extension agreement and commented how he did not expect this to result in any delay to the construction of the park. He had previously stated at the weekend how the first stone in the construction of the park would be laid down in April.

It continued that the process of attracting investors is ongoing due to the economic crisis, but stressed that the open dates for the park will be maintained.

The land, located in Alhama de Murcia, has a total area of 1,812,926 meters square, of which 774,777 will go towards building the Paramount Park, and 1,038,149 to the LifeStyle Center.

Last week Jesus Samper met with Secretary of State for Tourism, Elizabeth Borrego, to explain his company's proposal for the project, and explore the possibility of Premursa working together with the Ministry of Tourism to promote the park

Hello, have just been told about all this and doing some home work tonight. There arich could very cheap properties down here which could increase rapidly if the Murcia/Paramount Theme park goes ahead. But from this site I get a very negative feeling, should I think before I invest and please explain as to where or why the other Paramount Theme parks have failed. The area where this will happen etc seems to be very nice and Spain needs such an uplift as does Europe. I'm Irish and would love to find out where all this is going, should I go.

Following on from last week's shambles with buying the land required, it seems that Paramount Licensing have now been invited to site on the board at the Theme Park in Murcia. Let's hope that they will be the voice of reason and efficiency in this sea of incompetence !

Proyectos Emblemáticos Murcianos S.A. (PREMURSA) has started to define the final plans for the Paramount Park and LifeStyle Center in Alhama de Murcia, which will be completed in the next few weeks. These plans will be adapted to the 1,031,077 m2 of land purchased on March 7. PREMURSA has finally rejected the purchase of the rest of the land as this still fails to meet the necessary requirements demanded by Proyectos Emblemáticos Murcianos. However, this fact will not only have no affect on the construction of the park or the established deadlines but, thanks to the redefinition and adaptation of the new plans, will lead to the optimization of both the space acquired and of construction costs. Thus, the technical team of PREMURSA is working on plans that will integrate the Paramount Park (which maintains the original dimensions) in the LifeStyle Center itself; which will be resized but will maintain the same facilities and leisure areas specified in the original project.

Thanks to the integration of the park and the LifeStyle Center visitors will be able to enjoy the two spaces in a much more convenient, simple and fast way and, at the same time, many synergies can be created between the two areas. In this way, the project gains not only in profitability, but also in operation and efficiency.

Once the design of the plans is completed, the laying of the foundation stone will take place, in an official event to be held on 31 May in Alhama de Murcia. It will be the starting gun for a film project.

Jesus Samper and the regional government merged its entertainment theme parks to save, while looking for investors.

The proposed leisure complex Paramount Park & LifeStyle Center, referred to in Alhama de Murcia, yesterday suffered its first major cut. Its developer, Flagship Projects Murcianos (Premursa), Jesus Samper controlled and owned by the Government of Murcia, announced a 35% reduction in the size of the proposed leisure and integration of its two elements, the theme park licensed by the multinational American and leisure area attached.

According to a company statement, the project will conform to the 1.03 million square meters of land acquired on 7 March, compared to 1.58 million originally envisaged. The company added that it "has dismissed eventually purchase the remaining land because they still do not meet the requirements and required by Premursa".

The Murcian company did not report the economic impact of this reduction, but said that "this will affect not only the construction of the park or deadlines, but, thanks to the redefinition and adaptation of new plans, will be achieved optimize both space acquired as construction costs. "

The theme park Paramount Park Murcia, movies inspired this production like The Godfather, Grease, Titanic and Mission Impossible, keep your initial 550,000 meters square, while the surface of which was billed as "the largest leisure center in Europe" , Lifestyle Center, is halved. According to the company, "will be resized, but will maintain the same facilities and leisure areas stipulated in the draft", ie, seven hotels, a casino, a convention area, commercial area of 150,000 square meters, another bars and clubs and a third area office. Furthermore, both elements will be integrated so that visitors can travel together and the "synergies" between the two areas, the company headed Samper.

Premursa maintains the calendar, which plans to open in April 2015. The first stone was placed on 31 May.

Without new investors

The project headed by Jesús Samper, owner of Real Murcia and Group Santa Monica, is on schedule but still can not find investors after two years. Premursa has licensed Paramount Licensing to operate the park for a period of 30 years renewable, but not put a dollar multinational.

The initial investment is 446 million, as the rest companies would build the hotels and buildings. Premursa estimated that 130 million capital fund will get the rest through loans and sale of plots in the Lifestyle Center.

I like where it says still on schedule even after finding no investors the last two years. We will see if they do start construction at the end of May.

The Official cornerstone laying ceremony has been scheduled for the 31st of May, so hopefully we will have more news in a few weeks !
