SaweetDude04 Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Some friends and I are planning on a springtime weekend trip in April. We were thinking of going to Hershey but I was just wondering what to expect from the event. I know that not all of the rides are open. I was wondering what the crowds are like during the event, do Fahrenheit and Storm Runner operate in the cold? The other options we were thinking of were BGW, SFGAdv, or Kings Dominion. We are planning on driving to whichever destination on Friday, spend Friday night and all of Saturday at the park, then drive back on Sunday.
YoshiFan Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Crowds would depend on when you go to Hershey. In 2006 I went on a Saturday, the day before Easter and it was horrible. Storm Runner had an overflowing queue and was supposedly a 2 hour wait, Great Bear was 45 minutes to an hour, even Sooperdooperlooper had at least a 30 minute line. The cheap admission brings a lot of people out and if you go on a Saturday on either weekend, I am sure it will be crowded. 2 or 3 years ago I didn't go but it was so cold out that the only coasters open were Sooperdooperlooper and Comet. Great Adventure will probably not be as crowded, I went on Sunday of opening weekend last year and all coasters were 0 - 10 minute waits, even Kingda Ka.
Pirouettes907 Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I went to Hersheypark last year during Springtime in the Park, and I didn't encounter excessive waits. Granted, I went on Sunday, but that day I think I remember about 10-15 minute waits for Great Bear, a 20 minute wait for the Comet and Sooperdooperlooper and Trailblazer were walk-ons. The longest wait I had was about 45 minutes for Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge. However, I heard that on Saturday of that weekend the park opened Wildcat and Lightning Racer, so I'm guessing the crowds were large enough to warrant that act. I do know that Storm Runner and Fahrenheit were both closed. Looking at the website, though, it seems like both of these coasters are on the list of rides scheduled to potentially operate this year (weather permitting): http://www.springtimeinhershey.com/ride_list.php Maybe with more things open, waits won't be so bad. I haven't been to the other three parks you listed during the spring, so I can't help you there, but I would recommend Hershey; I had a pretty good time there last year. ~Megan
larrygator Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Great Adventure will probably not be as crowded, I went on Sunday of opening weekend last year and all coasters were 0 - 10 minute waits, even Kingda Ka. Being that it was about 40 degrees last year during opening weekend, weather certainly played into the short lines.
CoasterPrince Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Great Adventure in the Spring is an enthusiasts dream. May 3rd of last year was honestly the best day of my life. I was able to get in 13 rides on Toro and 12 on Nitro along with rides on 11 other coasters. Gadv seems the best because nothing beats the atmosphere we have here.
sixflagsguy5 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) I'd probably go with SFGADV or King's Dominion. I don't know where you're from or what your summer plans are, but what I would probably do is go with your spring trip to SFGADV and then do a summer trip to King's Dominion and Busch Gardens. Great Adventure has a lot of good coasters and it would be nice to avoid longer lines by going in the spring. Edited April 30, 2011 by sixflagsguy5

That was due to Harley Davidson having their outing on the same day. Because of that, crowds were a major issue which forced them to open up Midway. Storm Runner and Fahrenheit were closed because of issues of not having them ready on time (trains got shipped to the wrong place, etc).
DOCTOR DOOM!!! Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Does anybody know how crowded SFOG will be on Friday 3-19 or Sunday 3-21?!
