Senior park executive Neil Ireland said that with £600,000 being pumped into the park, new season tickets selling like hot-cakes and two new rides in the pipeline, he was confident the park could build on the 10 per cent increase in visitors it saw last year. As reported in December, the Grimsby Telegraph teamed up with Pleasure Island to offer £10 off a £50 season ticket – which allows ticket holders to visit the park as often as they like between April 1 and when the park closes in October. Launching the offer in December, we also announced the impending arrival of a new ghost train and outdoor ice rink, which prompted more than 400 readers to snap up their discounted season tickets. Mr Ireland said that when combined with the launch of new shows, it was all shaping up for a great season. SharkTums
Just for clarification I believe this is Pleasure Island Cleethorpes, as there are a ton of random amusements called Pleasure Island in the UK!
Airtime&Gravity
Wow, a 10% increase in visitors is a pretty big jump, and hopefully they haven't overestimated how popular the new additions will be. Ghost trains are fun, and it'll be nice to see what the owners, who also own Flamingoland, come up with. It's nice to see small local parks expand, and hopefully these new additions work out for the park, and since I'm sure attendance isn't very high, I'm sure they'll meet their predicted guest increase. Here's the RCDB page on the park if you don't know about it: http://www.rcdb.com/4820.htm
jedimaster1227
http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/news/Pleasure-Island-closed/article-2017024-detail/article.html Cleethorpes' Pleasure Island theme park has closed. Staff turned up for work this morning and were given letters terminating their employment and assuring them that they would be paid up until today. Visitors - some of whom had travelled from out of the area - were turned away at the gate. No reason has yet been given for the closure. Keep checking here for breaking news on this story, and see tomorrow's Grimsby Telegraph for full details. http://www.ride-guide.co.uk/rg/wp/archives/1127 Pleasure Island theme park in Cleethorpes has closed down. Staff turned up for work this morning only to be given termination letters and an assurance that they would be paid up to today. Guests arrived at the park to be greeted with closed gates and a notice informing them that the Park would not be opening. Pleasure Island was taken over by Dewarsaville Enterprises Limited in late November 2009. Melanie Wood (formerly Gibb), sister of Gordon Gibb, owner of Flamingo Land is a director of DEL, whose registered address is Pleasure Island. It would appear that there has been some sort of glitch in the transfer of the business from Flamingo Land Limited to DEL, the result of which has been the closure of Pleasure Island. This mornings events came as a total shock to Staff, Supervisors and Managers alike, who are now looking to Ms Gibb for an explanation. Staff were assured that they would be contacted within the next few days and that it is anticipated that the park would be reopening shortly. Would have had photos too, its a shame as it looks like quite a nice little park....
leedsdisneyfan
If reports from the Grimsby Telegraph are correct the closure is to be short lived as Melanie Wood is in discussions to take over the park breaking away from her brother and current owner of Flamingo Land but for a number of undisclosed reasons the talks stalled leading to yesterdays closure: http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/news/Theme-park-closed-takeover-negotiated/article-2019402-detail/article.html

jedimaster1227
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/humber/8645522.stm Pleasure Island Family Theme Park in Cleethorpes closed on 14 April and staff were told their employment had been terminated. The park was owned by Flamingo Land Ltd but has been now taken over by one of its directors, Melanie Wood. Mrs Wood said "99%" of staff would return for the reopening on Saturday. No reason has been given for the park's sudden closure. Mrs Wood told BBC News: "Pleasure Island will operate on its own by Dewarsavile, which is a company that I own, so we are very excited and looking forward to what hopefully will be a very busy season." She said staff had been contacted in the past two days. "I would say 99% are in a position to come back to work on Saturday, which is when we reopen, and we obviously look very much forward to them coming back."
