Angry_Gumball
Today, we took a few hours to our local beach mainly to test out the homemade skimboards my brother and I worked on. They did work. The day first started off at McDonalds (of course) and then off to the beach. I've never ridden a skimboard before, so I was in for a new challange. After a few skims and letting one of my friends try, the tail snapped and began not working as it was sucking up water and becoming heavy. We moved on to burying my friend and my cousin (Squirmy_Wormy, who never shows up on here) and added a few suggestive features. The day ended with me having a 102.2 degree fever and a massive headache that would make Vekomas as smooth as the smoothest glass. Here's the pictures! Next up, Mike and my cousin Heather (Squirmy Wormy) get buried alive! Random shot for you bird enthusiests. Finally (Before I snapped the board) I get a decent ride, about 5 feet...big accomplishment! Gravity also wanted to play tricks on me as well. Gravity took over on my friend, Mike as he tried riding one. He rode 1 foot and shot out. First ride on the skimboard...Little did I know, I was bound to fall seconds after the picture was taken Finally, a shot of me and the prototype board that didn't work and the broken board. Why does my brother look like one of those Abercrombie surfer dudes?? Little did they know, they became sand sculptures as sand people. PG13!! dandaman
Honest question: How easy is it to snap a skimboard? Danny "At least the day started off at McD's!" Smith
YoshiFan
I don't know if it takes a lot of practice or what but I have never seen anyone use a skimboard and really go further than a few feet. The concept looks cool but I wish there was an easy way to at least skim the waves, 15 or 20 feet at once.
QuakerOaties
Skim boarding just leads to injuries (at least for me!). Mark "My butt still hurts" Luskus
Justin Adams
Dude, Alameda! I was born and raised there, and lived on the island for 28 of my 30 years. Looks like you had fun though. If you get a chance next time, go check out Crab Cove visitor center at Crown Memorial down the road aways. Ask to see their old photographs from Neptune Beach, the old amusement park that used to occupy that space. We had a John Miller coaster, "The Whoopee". If you check out the McDonald's on Central and Webster, you can see pictures of it there too. Justin
Angry_Gumball
Slightly off topic from the TR, but on topic of what I did, due to the snapped board, I've decided to make a new one, starting from a low resolution 2 inch screenshot of a board template. No Home Depot TR, but here's the actual board, cut out from an $8.99 sheet of plywood. Artist's Rendering of what the board will look like, using Photo Shop. SLUSHIE
hmm... I think I'm going to skimboard my pool tomorrow. Not to many beaches in Sac.
Sir Clinksalot
Nice Skimboards!!! Those are cool for home designs. It's certainly not as popular as it once was. You have to have a good board AND a good beach. If the "Drop off" is too rapid it's hard to skim. It helps to have an area where the water doesn't get too deep. Just keep practicing, you will get it. Angry_Gumball
Thanks! Here's the somewhat final product...just coating it with Marine Spar Varnish to keep the water out. Not too far off from my photoshop rendering
