Looty Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Hey Everyone, I was in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago with some friends and snapped a few photos. I absolutely love Pittsburgh and think it's one of the coolest cities in the country...oh and Kennywood is there too! We hit up a lot of the sites in Pitt, visited Kennywood and Cedar Point, and attended the Steelers-Vikings game. Enjoy! We ate at Primanti Bros. the next day before our flight home. This is THE place to eat when you are in Pitt (we were told). It was actually quite tasty. Thanks for reading! One more. BOO!!! Check that out! We wanted to check out the incline again after dinner to check out the night view. Pittsburgh is even more awesome at night. We ate at the Hard Rock that night which also happened to have a lovely fountain show. Downtown They have all of their Super Bowl trophy's on display which is sweet! ...Definitely one of the best stadiums in the league! More Heinz Field sexiness. So we lost (seeing as how we totally handed it to them in the 4th), but we had a great time! PUNCH IT IN! OMG Brett Favre! I'm a HUGE Vikings fan and I seriously almost wet myself! Oh jeez!...so...I knew that we were going to get a lot of crap from Steeler fans but OMG these drunks were relentless! People were kicking my seat, hitting me in the face with their terrible towels, yelling and swearing like crazy, and making "purple penis" jokes in the bathroom. We were warned of the "out of town" Steeler fans that apparently are crazy and I'd say we did a pretty good job of finding them. Go Vikes! Sam and I were ready to take on the drunk and obnoxious Steeler fans around us. Heinz Field is definitely one of the better stadiums in the country. It was absolutely gorgeous! We had pretty good seats too! The next day was the big game! We were at CP from noon until 10:00 pm and managed to get on 7 rides. Magnum kept braking down all day, Raptor didn't open until around 9:00 pm, and everything else had terrible lines. We left a little bummed (although I kind of expected it to suck). There was a gentle mist that fell from the sky so Maverick had to close...needless to say that we weren't having a good time. The entire state of Ohio was in the park by 1:00 pm. The line for Maverick was around 1.5-2 hours all day. I was expecting it to be busy, but this totally sucked! MF was awesome as usual. The weather again wasn't the greatest. Dragster was testing in the morning but kept rolling back. It didn't actually open until around 7:00 pm! So long! We drove to CP the next day and arrived at noon when they opened. I didn't take many photos of Kennywood because it was quite dark. The park was dead due to the lousy weather which resulted in many re-rides for us. Their haunts really were lacking which was a little bit of a bummer though. Oh and PLEASE fix that evil transition of death on Phantoms Revenge Kennywood!!! Kennywood! I absolutely love this park and keep coming back year-after-year. Here is a better view of how the incline works. BOO! Here is Rachel and I mocking U.S. history. Here is me looking all wet. We hit up the incline later in the day and here is the view. The Monogamy and Dalai Lama rivers join to form the Ohio river. Heinz Field. BOO Steelers!!! That there is the Duquesne Incline. You pay the fare at the bottom, ride the little trolley car up to the top, take in the awesome view, and then ride back down. More pictures from the incline to come... Fountain We decided to check out Point State Park despite the crappy weather. OH GOD!!!...Rachel is driving! "I turn left now...good luck everybody." The trees in the area were turning which resulted in some gorgeous scenery. Oh and this comfy Turkish Bathrobe complete with half-naked man touching himself. Oh and this lovely lawn fixture. I'll take the "into hole" one thank you. I kept myself entertained on the plane by reading Sky Mall. SM has many wonderful things for purchase including the R. Kelly underwater camera. ....catch a quicky in one of the friendly bathrooms (BTW that is THE Larry Craig bathroom). Ah the Minneapolis airport. Here you can shop & dine and.... And me! (with an apparent crater in the side of my face) Here's the crew: Sam & Rachel
CreditCrazy Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Nice report, too bad Cedar Point was that crowded. Oh and I actually like Phantom's Revenge's 'bad' transition, it makes the second drop more 'exciting' and unexpected.
Ccron10 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 A few things I learned in Pittsburgh: -You can't walk fifteen feet without walking into someone wearing a Steelers jersey (its a LOT more for a Pirates jersey). -Expect to drive through more tunnels than you have in your life. Finally -ALWAYS eat at least once at Primanti Bros (just don't get the coleslaw on the sandwich). Luckly a college I got accepted at has one of these one block down the street. Glad you guys enjoyed your time there. Good TR.
Jds03 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Pittsburgh scares me. Last time I visited Kennywood we spent 3 hours trying to find a hotel. Nice Report though. I always love pictures of Phantom where the background is so far away. The location of that ride is phenominal.
holyblakbelt Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Nice TR (And I'm not just saying that because of the St. Cloud State University Sweatshirt). Yeah we choked in the fourth quarter, but I'd rather lose to the Steelers than to any other team.
larrygator Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 A few things I learned in Pittsburgh:-ALWAYS eat at least once at Primanti Bros (just don't get the coleslaw on the sandwich). Damn - I never stopped at Primanti because I had heard they refuse to make the sandwiches without slaw. Maybe I'll stop in the future.

Damn - I never stopped at Primanti because I had heard they refuse to make the sandwiches without slaw. Maybe I'll stop in the future. Why would they refuse to do that? It's like not wanting onion on a cheesburger. The coleslaw in my opinion, kind of ruins the burger since that's the only thing you taste on it. By the way, what is the most famous food in Pittsburgh? Primanti's says that their's is the second best. I really do need to do the incline the nexttime I'm out there.
Looty Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 ^I totally agree with you on the coleslaw. That really kind of overwhelmed the sandwhich for me. Thanks for the positive feedback so far everyone
larrygator Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Why would they refuse to do that? Because popular eateries with long lines can do what they want. Not that I agree. The infamous Soup Man (Nazi) would send you to the back of the line (or give you a ban) for taking to much time to order. I also know of an Italian restaurant in New York that will not serve their meatballs without sauce.
hobbit Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Great pictures! Looks like the weater in cedar point was not nice... Does the train makes a rollback later with people in it?
ebl Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 "BTW that is THE Larry Craig bathroom" So is there a Historical Places plaque on it? Eric
xChris125x Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Great to hear you had a great time at Kennywood and in Pittsburgh. Go Steelers!
Looty Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Did the train rollback later with people in it? No...but it was barely making it over. It was actually kind of funny to watch everyone in line react each time a train would launch and crawl over the top. When they opened it, they were only loading the first two rows. They would then add a row like every 10 minutes until it was eventually full.
