BrownStreak Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I am planning on going down to Kings Island for Pride Night (9/11/09- its a private party fundraising event that's been done for many years now). Usually when "we" go we stop at the Ohio Ren Fair on the way back- however since I am going solo this year I thought I would try to hit another park while I'm down there. I've never been to Holiday World or KY Kingdom- however BOTH of those parks are closed for "Private Events" all weekend. Any suggestions...keeping in mind I need to be able to drive back to Cleveland by Sunday night?
John Peck Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Kennywood, Maybe, You could also try the Columbus Zoo. Theres also Coney Island.
DBru Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Well, if I were in your situation, there are two parks I would consider visiting on your way home. The first is probably obvious---Cedar Point. The second is a bit out there, but maybe Kennywood. It would be an extra 3 hours of driving, but I've never heard a negative comment about the place, and it wouldn't be any extra driving than you would have to do if you were going to visit HW or SFKK. Have a fun trip!
BrownStreak Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Coney Island is also closed that Saturday. I was recently at Kennywood and I worked at Cedar Point last summer- so I was trying to hit something new. I know its a lost cause I'm fighting here but I just thought I might be missing some park I forgot about. I am seriously wondering if all of these parks are "closed" the same weekend within a two hour radius of KI because of Pride Night, i.e. they don't want "the gays" in their parks in large numbers...any truth to that?
ginzo Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I am seriously wondering if all of these parks are "closed" the same weekend within a two hour radius of KI because of Pride Night, i.e. they don't want "the gays" in their parks in large numbers...any truth to that? They don't want money during an otherwise slow time? I doubt it. Late Summer/Fall is just a big time for park rent outs. Beech Bend might be a possibility. It's a bit of a drive though.
YoshiFan Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Parks all over are closed that Saturday. Great Adventure and Dorney are also closed that day because of buyouts.
John Peck Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Like I said, the Columbus Zoo has a coaster you can ride as well as flat rides. You could give Idlewild a Whirl and there is always Darien Lake. I think Waldameer will be closed by then. Not sure if Strickers Grove will let you in. Oh.. Maybe Camden Park in WV might be open. Thats about it. Ohio Parks are starting to disappear.
BrownStreak Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 Coney Island, Indiana Beach, Waldameer, and the ride half of the Columbus Zoo are all closed for the season by the time that weekend comes around. Idlewild and Camden are both closed that Sunday- are either of these big enough for a solo adult to enjoy? If Conneaut Lake can get the Blue Streak running- I'd definitely opt for that. I should note that I graduate this coming May and so I really wanted to knock off a few parks before I leave the area for Grad School.
jamesdillaman Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Keep on going south and hit up Dollywood.... That is all. -James Dillaman
BrownStreak Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 ^I had considered that until I figured in the length of the drive back up to Cleveland
Skramp Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 The Montgomery County Fair in Dayton, OH will be running so you can get some ghetto credits. What about heading down to Kentucky Kingdom? Only about 2 hours from KI down 71 to Louisville?
