TheStig Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hey everyone! So a last night I headed up to Sea World after school to go ride Manta as part of the "Manta Madness" event that SWO put on last night. For those of you who don't know, Manta Madness was done through twitter. @RealShamu offered 15 spots to various Twitter followers, but you had to either do some Shamu body art, take a picture of yourself in the Orlando Airport SWO shop, or get a picture of you being/looking/with a ray. I did all three, and those images are below, and was invited! I'd say there were maybe 100 people at this event, a bunch from another website or something were the majority. Still, this was a really awesome viral campaign and I'm glad I was part of it! SWO really put on a great show! On to the pictures! The back was awesome! This is actually a tweet that went out during the event that is printed on the back of the shirt. Thanks again to @RealShamu and SWO for putting this on! It was great! And follow @RealShamu! At the end of the night they gave us some free shirts! Note: I am not a model. It slows down to about 680mph here. Ahhhhh, awesome. More Manta sign. We had this little area all to ourselves, with tables, a bar, and the food setup right under the ride. It was pretty awesome, even if we didn't get Shamu bars! And OH MY GOD this artichoke dip was AMAZING!!!!! The wing over thing here was pretty cool, the waterfall took me by surprise the fist time! Hello Mr. Ray! The main aquarium wasn't open yet for us, but there were still a few little tanks in the queue for us to look at. These little guys were awesome! The ride is actually traveling at well over 700 miles per hour right here. Fact. My camera sucks butt at taking low light shots, sadly. The pretzel was as usual really awesome, especially in the back row. I'm pretty sure this is my favorite coaster element of all time! Manta was actually probably my favorite B&M flyer, as it seems to be the first one they really got "right". It's not too intense and extreme to keep you from riding over and over like Tatsu, and not boring like any of the SUF's are. Hooray! The Manta sign sort of looks like a purple Ditto. I dragged my woman along as we were all allowed to bring one guest. First thing she said? "Wow there are a ton of dweebs here!" On our way to Manta! Seriously, I was surprised how close to the entrance this thing is. It was pretty much right in your face when you walked in! The sea (well puddle I guess) of people getting ready to go and ride Manta! The park staff. Pretty sure the girl in the blonde is the one who put all of this on, she was really awesome! We arrived as the park was closing, but even still we got special VIP parking!! I love private events! On our way to Sea World we spotted possibly the greatest license plate ever! And finally my totally awesome body art! Me with THE HAPPIEST RAY EVER! Here I am in Orlando International Airport! My what a lovely store Sea World has here!
Homeboy23 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Oh come on, you couldn't do a better photoshop of you in the airport Anyway, congrats on being invited.
BeemerBoy Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 While I'm still on a mission to find a legitimate reason why Twitter should exist in society, every now and then something interesting and fun utilizes it, thus suspending my belief that Twitter is the work of Satan.....even if only briefly. "Wow there are a ton of dweebs here!" It slows down to about 680mph here.
Meteornotes Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Colin, that looked like a good time. And why are you not following me on Twitter?!? Maybe I have to start giving out prizes... Oh, and this: I dragged my woman along as we were all allowed to bring one guest. First thing she said? "Wow there are a ton of dweebs here!" is awesome. Your woman is amazing. dt
ghost007jas Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I've been following @RealShamu for a while now, and it hasn't gotten old yet! He's hilarious! It looks like you had a lot of fun, even whilst being teased by your woman, haha. Manta with no line FTW!
ginzo Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I'm not a fan of flyers, but it's very interesting to hear that you think that this one is the best of the bunch. Also, that's some serious hair you've got going on there.
triggernel Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 That quote is classic. I love how it actually made its way onto the shirt.
