Valhalla, which opened in 2000 at a cost of £15million, was the biggest private investment in the millennium celebrations. But after 8 years of endless technical faults, and increasing running costs the fun park has decided its time to close the attraction. The move comes just over 2 years since the popular Log Flume was closed to make way for a new roller coaster, Infusion, which features 5 different loops and rolls. Bosses at the seafront attraction are remaining tight lipped about what will replace the ride. A pleasure beach spokesman had this to say: Valhalla was a great ride on paper, but in the real world is was a very different story; water and these types of effects don’t mix. Valhalla was a learning curve for the pleasure beach, and our next crowd puller will follow the success of the Big One. Members of the public wishing to ride Valhalla may do so until 9pm Sunday 2nd November.
SharkTums Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I have only one word for this...LAME! I know a bunch of our Brits have been telling us that the new chick in charge at the Pleasure Beach is a "bitch" and has been killing the place, but I kept giving the park the benefit of the doubt...until now. This really sucks. Why don't you just tear out Steeplechase next Blackpool!?!? Kill me right now!
socalMAN123 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 ^ Watch, they're gonna take Steeplechase out next year for an 800 foot tall B&M launched invert. This sucks, I looked forward to riding this in my future trips to England. And now I never get to ride it. Phooey. ---Brent
DandAyr Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 what a shame. the times we went, it always had a healthy queue, though the odd breakdown will have contributed. You see folk talk about not all elements working - well to the majority of folk, and I include myself, you don't notice if this feature or that feature was not working on that time round. So think its just hard core dot the i cross the t folk who really had a ride spoiled cause all technical elements were not perfect. I think the true nail in the Valhalla coffin will have been gas prices that have rocketed by hundreds of % in the UK in the short time the ride was open.
Fry Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Wow! That's... mad! I mean, I was never a fan (a ride where it's real pot luck if everything works isn't a huge loss to me!), that's a HUGE shock! I was there Thursday, and there was not even a whisper of this! I even thought the ride was running with the most effects I've seen on it! I mean, it did break twice in a 30 minute queue, BUT, still... So, for me, not a huge loss, but sad... EDIT- Though now I'm hearing it's a 'joke'...? *shrug*
Fry Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Yeah, it's not going anywhere. Fansite the 'Blackpool Pleasure Beach Guide' had it as a joke... www.tbppbguideforums.info/bpb/viewtopic.php?p=125049#125049
