rawrtotheargh Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Does anyone know if there is any official record for number of rides on Goliath at Magic Mountain in one day or one year or just any ride record? I've tried looking it up but have come back with 0 results. Thanks! ADMIN EDIT: I rewrote your subject title for clarity. Chuck
Wes Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I don't think the park or anyone keeps an official record of such things.
Homer Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I think records on rides are kept by the individuals themselves. Over time, ride ops might get acquainted with the individual if they're regular and one op might get attention to the park about a guy over "Man, this guy is nearing his Xth ride on Goliath, let's celebrate!" Besides, a guy rode Millennium Force 1,000+ times in a season recently made the news. http://www.chroniclet.com/2008/10/08/elyria-man-masters-millennium-force-1011-times-in-a-year_122/
AllenA07 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Sigh... Time for me to sound like the loser that I really am... I kept count for the first few years that Goliath was open. I had just over 500 rides on it when I lost count. I'd guess that after losing count I racked up another 100 or so rides on the coaster, so I'd guess my ride count is around 600. I'm guessing that it is not the record, but I'm also pretty confident that I'm pretty high up there in terms of total rides. Even when I was counting I never really bragged about it or anything, I simply kept count. I'm proud to say that I've not kept count on any ride since!
Manny In England Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Yeah if anything, most people just keep track of the number of different coasters they've ridden. It's probably close to the Millennium Force record though.
sixflagsguy5 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I keep a rough estimate for each coaster that I've ridden, because one of the coaster counter sites has it set up so you can enter how many rides on each coaster. I know that there are younger kids that go to one park like 20 or 30 times a year and over time the ride ops will be like "wow you've been on this ride a lot of times, you probably have the record." It's not like they actually log a record in a book in their control booth or anything, they're just saying that to be friendly and nice. So if you're going to SFMM like 40 times a year and one day you rode Goliath 20 times in a row and a ride op said something about a record, don't think you actually have some special record (no offense). A lot of people marathon coasters all the time. The only marathons that really get special note are if it's for a special cause (such as the GCI guy riding coney island cyclone for x amount of hours to save the ride from destruction).
ebl Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I used to count my rides, but stopped when I realized that it took up too much space in my head. Now I just enjoy 'em. Eric
haux Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 ^ That's why you write down the counts like I do.
ebl Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 ^ Allow me to asplain...I no longer care how many times I've ridden a ride. Not having to keep count allows me to just sit back and enjoy the darned thing. I will add a new credit to my spreadsheet, but that's about it. Eric
paintballer Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I've ridden Titan 13 times in a row! Thats like Goliaths big brother!
