Y2J2003Y2J Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I am fairly new to posting on these boards and have been a reader for a couple years now. I started posting after I met up with Big Mike at Cedar Point when he stopped there for his Road Show. So now its time for me to give my first ever trip report. Going into this trip I had 74 credits and need the two coasters at Strickers Grove. Being a rare park to get I decided to go with my friends Katie, Bill and their two kids and John. We left Youngstown at 7 am in the morning stopping first at sheetz for breakfast and other morning amenities and then headed off. It tooks us about 5 hrs to get down there. The GPS took us to Compton in Ohio instead of Strickers. Luckily Strickers was only 4 miles away from where it lead us. It ended up being a fun day and I would go back given the opportunity. It wasn't to crowed, they had good food, and its a good price. But without further ado.... the photos... Thanks to Katie and Bill for making this day possible The sun sets on a fun day as the day came to an end we got our final rides on the flyers We also got some good spinning action on Tilt a Whirl I played a round of mini golf during dinner break Teddy Bear is a Junior coaster and my 76th credit Free is always a good word A view of Tornado from the train Not a whole lot of cars parked today I hope this doesn't happen often Time to hop aboard the train for a trip around the park Random ferris wheel shot Cotton Candy yumm Katie getting some big air One reason we came today... The Flyers The other end of the midway Scrambler Tornado is my 75th coaster One end of the midway looking toward coasters Free Pop was good for this 80 degree day Free Sno Cones, Cotton Candy, and Popcorn The grilling Pavilion where they sold hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, and chips Concession and Arcade Merry Go Round The Tornado in red and Teddy Bear in blue We picked out our spot near the mini golf course After the GPS got us lost in Compton Groves we finally arrive at Stricker's Grove Sorry Kings Island, we aren't stopping by but we'll be back for a diamondback credit in 09 We entertained ourselves with TPR DVDs This was my first trip to a Sonic After we got through Columbus we hit up Sonic We spotted a Hot Air Balloon early in the morning
gisco Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Is it me or are the pictures not coming through?
thrillerman1 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I can see the pics fine. One of these days I've got to get to Stricker's. I love the smaller parks where you can just enjoy yourself at a relaxed pace. Thanks for sharing.
Big Mike Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I also see the pictures fine, and they are awesome!!! Great job Jeff!!!! Nice seeing your face again after the super time we had at Cedar Point together, all 18 hours worth lol. I love how there was free cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and coasters! Thats my kind of day! Glad you had fun my friend! Peace, Big Mike
Guest Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 We were so happy to have you along with us Jeff. Matt and I had been to Stricker's prior to this so the boys were doing that credit whoring thing. LOL!! Here are more pictures taken from that day. Stricker's Grove
gisco Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Yeah, it was just me. I can see them now at work. Not that I am looking at them at work .... I hope the boss doesn't see this post. Nice pics, I hope to get back to the East coast someday, There is just so many places to go.
spaceace12 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I couldn't see them at first, then they showed up. Nice pictures.
Guest Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I just saw this picture and had to post it. DUDE!!!!
Guest Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I liked Stricker's a lot when we went last August, thought it was a really cool place for what it was. It was also home to my favorite wood coaster in Ohio (Tornado obviously) which has an absolutely ridiculous spot of airtime in the last row on one of the drops near the end of the ride. Thanks for the TR, I'd definetely like to go back there if I was ever near it when it happened to be open.
Y2J2003Y2J Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 Hey thanks for all the great comments so far. I had trouble uploading them as this was my first photo trip report ever. I had to upload them a few times to go the right way and stuff. Thats why some of you didn't see any photos last night while i was fixing it. But other than that hopefully many more of you will get out to this park when its open to the public.
downunder Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I'm surpised Stricker's Grove is still open, glad you got the opportunity to go. Great photos by the way, they really bring back memories of my visit in August 07, 200th credit on Teddy Bear yay! Oh and the food, that was great, the corn yum and all the rest.
King of Ka Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Nice pictures, this is the first I've seen of this park other than TPR's trip, obscure parks are nice to read about. Out of curiosity, what else does the white T-shirt that says "Cedar Fair.... you suck!" say?
Y2J2003Y2J Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 We made those shirts last year after Cedar Fair closed Geauga Lake. We were them to PPP 2007. Here is a couple pics of the shirt... And this is the picture on the back Cedar Fair... You Suck Thanks for the 119 years of memories We will never forget Geauga Lake RIP 9-16-07
carolinacaniac Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Great pictures! Certainly helps to make this place look like a good time! Just out of curiousity, I know that Stricker's is uaually open for only two days to the public. If you don't mind my asking, what was the occasion for the park being open? -Gary T.
Y2J2003Y2J Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 ^^I think it was customer appreciation day.
