Rolling Sands Resort

Well, I applaud everyone who uses custom scenery and makes it look so nice! I love creating parks in RCT so I figure I would share my first "realistic" park with buildings and other scenery. However, I will be creating this with as much of the "in-house" scenery and rides as I can. If someone can point me in the direction of a few good custom supports packs, maybe the future rides will have a little more character.

Anyways, My first step was to create the land. I always have something in mind before I start so I just imagine and use whatever looks nice in the end. Here are 2 shots of what I have so far. No rides yet (I took out the one flat ride I had to do more brainstorming on what to use) but the theme is a getaway-resort so any ride suggestions are welcome.

I know these are amateur shots but I will get some more. I am working on the park as you read this!

^Thanks!

I decided to make a simple compact suspended coaster. After I finished, I fount it reminds me of some of the SLC's you see in parks. I think I am going to go with a western themed area near the coaster, the island theme will be more on the coast.

Very very very nice landscaping.

Right now the buildings seem a little bare to me; it would look much better if you added more details.

Concerning the support cs-packs - try out Moby's Steeljungle. It needs a little practice, but when you have that, it's just outstanding

Thanks! I figure with landscaping first, it gives you an opportunity to let the land decide what goes where. The buildings are somewhat bare but I hope that some good shrubbery might fix that. Would you suggest more dynamic building shapes or more around them? I might have to download the supports package, it does make quite a bit of difference. Another CS pack I would like to find would be more path options.

I have yet to post too many more of the screen shots I have taken. After posting the SLC-ish coaster (of which I have called "The Tomahawk"), I worked on adding Indian animatronics and other scenery. I have also recolored the land to add to the "western" feel.

In the blank concrete area near the entrance, I also added another building to house some t-shirt stalls and the information booth. Right next door, the construction for the 200ft observation tower and building is being completed.

As far as the direction of the park, the western theme will eventually lead into a spooky/haunted theme near the lowlands and standing water, I also plan on a boardwalk-type area along the beach. Overall it is a work in progress. I hope to get some good, working CS packs to add; I have already downloaded a few CFR's but will wait to find an appropriate location in the park to house them. I will try and get some better

Looking good, Nice to see another new park around here. YOu should try using some more vibrant colours on those building to make it go with the island theme. The coaster looks good, needs a little more work with the supports but you'll get the hang of it eventually!

Keep up the good work! I'll keep my eye on this one.

I took a few more shots of Tomahawk. I have not had much time to build further but I will get around to it. Because the coaster is so compact, I am not sure if I should add any on-ride tunnels but I may.

I am still working on the buildings, I might change the walls because on the ones I have chosen, you can't change the color. A quich change was adding some glass roofs but I did not take a picture.

I think when I was designing the SLC, I imagined banking the first drop but I think there were issues with how I used the small, large and x-large dropping turns with banking. Thanks for the comments though, I have an obsession with compact coasters!

Well, I was gone for the weekend but got a chance to work on the park a bit when I got back. I am veering away from the "Western" Area right now, and working towards The Boardwalk. There isn't much landscaping or buildings but I am working on those sometime today.

Here is an overall view of the park. The new woody is called "The Strip" and will run the length of the boardwalk. I also increased the height of the Observation Tower. I figure I will need some kind of transportation system when it gets larger; any suggestions?

I've been working a little on the boardwalk-area scenery to give it a "beachy" feel. I still need to add more rides to get the overall feel of the atmosphere of a boardwalk. I will probably add classic carnival-style rides in that area.

Below is also the ratings for "The Strip" and the general area so far.

Also, I have not forgotten about the Western area. My original flat ride I had removed to make room for the t-shirt stalls has come out of storage! Details later.

(Cue simpsons monorail song) Monorail, Monorail, MONORAIL!!!

A tad random don't you think?

Story of my life!

Is there a turn on the lift hill of the woodie? If so I don't much care for it.

Also the airtime hills are a bit strange but the park is starting to look quite nice.

>Monkey: Yes, I am sad to say that there is a turn in the lift hill. The trains are 5-cars long and make the turn just fine. It actually runs quite smooth, I think it is about 100ft high and drops in 50ft intervals. I have never recorded any on-ride footage but might try soon.

>Steffen: I have the Platinum edition so I have all three. I might try doing that but after working on the theming of that area, the custom buildings actually match very nice, IMO. I will post that picture later this evening.

Update!

I got a lot accomplished on the park but I have yet to take pictures of the finished products, just some teasers.

The Twister flat ride came out of storage and is currently being themed in the western area as "The Texas Twister". Also, look for a new junior coaster to please just about everyone!

Other recently installed rides are the Thunder Bobs and Jet Skis! Don't forget those shiny new toilets! These new Boardwalk attractions are sure to attract peeps of all ages. Look for detailed shots of this in the near future, but I leave you with a dusk shot!

Check Back Later!

A few pictures of the newer attractions:

'Shoreside' just had some new attractions installed. This is a water shot of The Jet Skis and the accompanying stalls and toilets. You can also see some of The Strip as well as the new Thunder Bobs!

'Shoreside' so far, sticking with the boardwalk theme.

'The Great Western Journey' has also been upgraded! I have added the 'Hey Dude! Show' along with Lasso Larry's Loop! (It has since been slightly relocated than what seen in the second image). I also added a central building to house a numerous amount of western-themed stalls.

I need a better shot of The Texas Twister but you can kind of make out the scenery around it.

Here is an overall shot of the park. In my next update, be sure to look for a longer boardwalk, more buildings and rides in 'Shoreside' and some new junior rides as well as a close up on the new junior coaster Little Dipper.

I have some close-ups on some of the newer rides.

The Texas Twister

Little Dipper (you can also see Beach Bumpers, the new dodgems, right next to Thunder Bobs) The area around here will eventually be a junior zone with mainly kid rides.

Here is a closer view of the main drag and the Observation Tower. Old stuff here, I might upgrade the buildings in the future.

Here is a view of The Great Western Journey as it is right now. I just added 'Mustang Runner', a small themed steeplechase. It will have an enclosed station in the future.

Here is how Shoreside stangs thus far, not too different but I did expand the building for the Chairswing. Also, You can walk on the beach but I have yet to decide if any true rides should be there.
