Angry_Gumball Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I haven't played my Wii for probably a month now, has been on standby mod...And when I went to turn it on today, a sudden urge to play Brawl, I noticed across the screen a bunch of black 'speckles' kinda flickering here and there. I could be wrong, but me thinks my wii must have overheated it's GPU and probably did some damage to it...which really sucks because now, this will be the second time I'll have to take my Wii in. Originally, my Wii went in as the drive was making this obnoxious buzzing noise (sounded like a chainsaw). I finally drew the line when it wouldn't play Smash Bros. So, it looks like it's time again to take it in for another wii-placement...really bummed as I've never had any problems with Nintendo hardware. Has anyone experienced graphical problems with their Wii? What's the best method for keeping it from getting overheated? (All my vents are actually clear, my wii's really not that hot.
chmilo24 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 To keep it from overheating I bought one of those chill things you put yout wii on. This is sort of like it
Angry_Gumball Posted September 11, 2008 Author Posted September 11, 2008 Are they pretty effective cooling-wise? I'm assuming they stay powered on the whole time the Wii's on standby? Playing Brawl, I notice these 'speckles' moreso depending on the stage. It was barely noticeable on my custom stage as opposed to say, a complex-looking Metroid stage. Now, off to spend another 40 bucks for a new warranty...starting to see how they work. Best Buy has a 2-year even exchange warranty available when you buy the wii. You can take in the bad one, and get a shiny new one. So when I take it in, I'll probably nab a cooling system.
chmilo24 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 ^Well those have been pretty good to me cooling wise, and if those don't work put a fan on it. Thats what I do with my 360 since it was always overheating. --Chris
kraken613 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I also have a fan on my Wii. My disk drive also did that so I sent it in to Nintendo. It came back and has worked since.
onewheeled999 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Nothing like this has happened to me to my knowledge. But I'd go with a fan. My current Nintendo problem is that my Super Mario Galaxy disc has just a couple relatively small scratches, about as long as a fingernail. But I pop it in and start the game... "Disc cannot be read". No matter the wiping down, it's always the same. [/i]
crispy Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 That sucks I have never had that issue with my Wii Actually, I have had no issues with any of my systems of late, I have all three, and even my 2 year old 360 still works great The olny thing I can think of is make sure there is PLENTY of ventelation around the machine
AllenA07 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I've never had a problem with the Wii in terms of heat actually. I'm keeping it however away from the rest of my components which gives slightly better ventilation.
