So Tony and I were in New York for 3 days and decided to go to Great Adventure! The only problem with this is I had been taking pictures in New York all day, and Tony forgot to pack the camera charger so needless to say this trip report will not have any photos. So on with the trip report...

We left our hotel in Manhattan at about 2:00pm, after fighting all the drivers in New York we made it out of the city and on to the New Jersey turnpike at about 3:00pm. After what seems like hours of driving we arrived at Great Adventure at about 4:20pm.

First off was El Toro! The sign by where we were standing in line said "From this point it is about a 60 minute wait." They were running both trains so the line seemed to fly by! After about being in line for about 15 minutes we made it on the ride, and in the back row. The ride was simply amazing, there was a ton of airtime, combined with the high speed turns makes this ride like the Maverick of wooden coasters! We make our way through the long exit path and look at our on ride photo! Then headed over to Kingda Ka!

Kingda Ka... I had been watching the ride from the moment we pulled into the parking lot, and it was running great so I was happy! But when time comes for us to ride we hear this... "Attention guest waiting in line for Kingda Ka. At this time Kingda Ka is currently closed do to technical difficulties. Unfortunately we are unable to estimate the length of the delay. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused." Are you freaking kidding me? Tony and I decide to give it a few minutes, which turns into about an hour. As soon as we turn to walk away they dispatch the trains about 10 minutes later the ride opened! We were on the second train out and in the front row! I am use to riding Dragster, and when we got to the top of the tower and start going down the drop instead of speeding up the entire train slows down. D@mn break. After leaving Kingda Ka we headed over to Superman.

Superman was running both trains and the wait was nothing. We walked right up to the station, and waited one train before making it on. The ride was ok... nothing great. Just like all the other Superman flying coasters! We leave Superman and head over to Batman!

Tony and I love Batman clones simply because of how much happens in such a short amount of time! The line was not that long at all, but we ended up waiting about 30 minutes for the ride just because someone had to get sick which jacked up the dispatch times. They were running two trains, and we were standing on the platform, and it took forever to actually make it on to the ride. In the end though it was worth the wait! There is just something about Batman Clones! Tony and I both agree they are much better than Raptor! Leaving Batman we decide to head over to Nitro!

Nitro had about a 10 minute wait for the back row! Not to bad! The only thing is I started blacking out in the turn into the mid-course :/ Other than that the ride was amazing! We exit the ride, look at the on ride photo and go right back to the entrance to ride Nitro again, but this time in the front! I must say I like the front much better mainly because of the view! I like not having peoples hands all up in my view during the ride! After our second ride on Nitro we leave and head back over to Kingda Ka!

We get to Kingda Ka at about 8:30pm. I asked the employee at the entrance how long the wait was and they said 90 minutes. Seriously? Tony and I decide to go ride El Toro and come back if there is enough time. After waiting about 20 minutes we made it on to El Toro! After the ride we head back over to Kingda Ka to get one last ride for the night! At this time Kingda Ka was a walk on. We walked right up to the front row, and there were two people in front of us. Those two go out and come back and it was our turn to get on the ride when... "Attention guest waiting in line for Kingda Ka. At this time Kingda Ka is currently closed do to technical difficulties. Unfortunately we are unable to estimate the length of the delay. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused." Are you freaking kidding me? Again... Since the park was closed we decided we would wait until it was fixed because there was nothing else we could ride, and we were not going to leave when they could just fix the ride! So... 10:30pm rolls around and the supervisor grabs the microphone and says "Attention to my guest waiting in line as you know Kingda Ka is closed due to technical difficulties. At this time I regret to inform you that Kingda Ka will not be re-opening tonight." At this time I am about to slap a b!tch. The supervisor continues... "We appreciate your cooperation through out this delay so to make it up to you guys we are going to walk you over to El Toro so you can get one last ride there instead." Now at this time I am seriously pi$$ed. I did not want to ride El Toro, I wanted to ride Kingda Ka. But to make Tony happy we walked over to El Toro and grab a seat toward the front of the train. They dispatch the train. We travel the course of the track and return to the station. All the guest in the train are like "1 more time... 1 more time..." In the end they dispatch the train again... we climb the lift as usual until we approach the top. As the front car is about to crest the hill the ride stops. My first thought was "Are you freaking kidding me. First Kingda Ka while we were in line, and now El Toro while we are on it?" about 5 minutes later the lift re-starts and we continue the ride and return to the station. We never figured out the cause of us stoping at the top, we think it was just the Supervisor that was dispatching the train trying to mess with us! Either way it made the ride worth it!

After leaving El Toro we headed out to the car in the parking lot to begin our really LONG drive home. Looking back on the trip it was not as bad as it could have been. At least we got one ride on Kingda Ka, and 4 rides on El Toro! I hope you enjoyed the trip report, and thanks for reading!

I mean no offense by this (I'm just crazy for el toro) but I never thought I would see someone be upset by an extra ride on el toro. Kingda ka is maybe a close second best to the bull in my opinon. I guess for some people it's hard to choose between airtime goodness and launch goodness.

It is not so much that I was upset it was more disappointment. After waiting for ever just to be told we could not ride. I was about to slap a b!tch. You have no idea!

Growing up in the Jackson NJ area, I have always been a fan of the park. I would put it in my top 5 overall parks behind CP, BGE, Universal Orlando, and Thorpe Park. However, I do have to disagree with your comment about Batman clones being better than Raptor. I do not see anything better about a batman clone than Raptor. Raptor gives such a superior ride combing smoothness, speed, and a flat out intense ride. I would also not be disappointed about KK ride. If you have been on Dragster, KK will just let you down:(

As far as El Toro goes, I have it by far my number one woodie. Great Coaster!!! Nitro also kicks some major butt!

This website is awesome! I enjoy all of these reviews and trip reports. Thanks to all that take the time:)

That's what you get for wasting valuable Great Adventure time in line for that hunk of junk.

Ka is a "one and done".

Wow, that's crazy. I've never heard of that ride randomly breaking down before.

And the nerve of them to offer you another ride on ET! And they say SF customer service is improving? Pfft.
