DBru Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Hey guys, sorry for such an "exclamatory" title, but this is important! I just got back from basketball camp (thank the Lord!), and when I clicked on RCT2, it gave me a message saying: THREAT DETECTED! While opening file: C:\Documents and Setting\User\Local Settings\Temp\SlntfNT.dll Trojan horse Proxy.ACQM Then when I "heal" the file, the game won't start! I use AVG for my Virus scanner. I tried restarting my computer, and uninstalling/reinstalling the game, but neither worked. Please help ASAP; I have an RCT2 contest that starts tomorrow, and a park that needs updating! Thanks! -Daniel
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 It could be that there is a virus in a file you downloaded. Have you downloaded any rides/parks/custom scenery? Try going into the Atari/Infrogrames file and scanning the entire RCT2 directory. If there was a virus in something you downloaded, AVG should be able to tell you where.

DBru Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 If I go in and delete...: C:\Documents and Setting\User\Local Settings\Temp\SlntfNT.dll (the virus was detected when opening this file) ...what will happen?
kraken613 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Ouch.......... Sorry man just try to use the anti-virus software!
DBru Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 Okay, well I can only think of one more thing to do... If I delete the game AND all of the saved files, will it delete the virus? Please help, I'm SO frustrated!
kraken613 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Maybe........... I don't really know..... They can be difficult sometimes though......
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 If I go in and delete...: C:\Documents and Setting\User\Local Settings\Temp\SlntfNT.dll (the virus was detected when opening this file) ...what will happen? Try doing a system restore to before the problem occurred and see if that does anything.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Assuming you are running XP (It is probably the same with Vista if you are running it.) You go to Start menu -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore and the process should be self-explanatory from there.
DBru Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 Ugh, nope. I didn't have any "restore points" before today. For some reason, System Restore was turned off for all of my drives. I guess I'll have to delete everything... (I'll wait a few more minutes, just in case there are anymore suggestions...)
kraken613 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Try to install this Norton Internet Security 2008 15 day trial and do a full scan. http://nct.symantecstore.com/fulfill/0184.065 To do a full scan when installed go to Norton Internet Security Tab Then under tasks and scans click run a scan then click full system scan! Hope you got this!

Well now hold on, you just created a restore point for today, so why not try deleting that .dll file, and if it does anything then do a system restore back to today.
DBru Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 ^^It can't heal the Virus. What is the point of a virus scan if none of them can fix a freakin' virus?!?! But I guess it doesn't matter now anyway. Dogwood Lake Park is gone, all of my coasters are gone, and RCT2 won't even work... I am so frustrated! I've never had a problem with my computer before, but now I just hate it. UGH! (Sorry guys...) EDIT: VFB, I just tried to restore my computer back to before I deleted RCT2, but it doesn't effect the files at all...
kraken613 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 You tried Norton? They all are different! Nortons the best! It happened to me when I didn't have a computer from 2 months and i lost everything! Hey if that hadn't of happened I might have never tried a real park! I might have stuck with just doing rides! Everything has an upside! Your next park will be even better!

Well, I guess all that is left to do is to get rid of the entire RCT2 directory, re install the game, and move on from there. I'm sorry for ya that this had to happen.
DBru Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 Thank you all for being supportive; it means a lot! But my problem is that even though I deleted EVERYTHING from the RCT2 files, my game still won't work. It says that I don't have "access to the \Temp drive"...
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Is your account on the computer set as an administrator account? If it isn't try logging onto your administrator account and installing the game there. An administrative account should have access to everything.
Team Thriller Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I understand how you feel because I had the same problem. It was after I downloaded stuff for the game. What I did is try a new game (With ALL the previous files deleted) --James
kraken613 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 You ever find anything to do? Maybe try to install your game in a different HDD or file.....
DBru Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 I'm going to try to reboot my computer in safe mode, and THEN run the virus scan. I'll get back to you ASAP...
Guest Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Has anyone had any luck here? This just started happening to me today. From reading some stuff on Google I'm pretty sure that this isn't a virus, just something that is tripping AV software for some reason. I use Avast and have been getting the same thing though. I have been able to run the game by shutting the AV software off, then booting it, then reenabling it, but this doesn't seem like the best soloution. You could also add it to the exceptions list but I don't know how safe that would be considering the problem file is in the Windows temp folder. But all in all I think this is a harmless file that is tripping scanners. Seeing as there are so many having this issue specifically with RCT2 and it is recent (Google Virus RCT2) I don't think it is an actual infected file.
