I'm incredibly saddened by this news. Choosing a new coaster over implosion to Circus Circus is clearly the wrong move.

Seriously, everything on that end of the strip can go. Blow up and start new.

I've lived in Vegas for about a year now and my visits to Circus Circus have always been... unpleasant....Yeah, that's the word. Adventure Dome is a good idea but with such limited space its only a matter of time before the whole thing goes stale. And its already there. The whole Circus Circus has deteriorated (and was always pretty tacky) far beyond repair and its time they salvaged Canyon Blaster and toss the flat rides and let Wile E. take the Acme TNT to it. The beds in that place are like sleeping on Soda Cans..no joke.

Note: I'm really interested what they may do with Star Trek the Experience now that the movie is a Hit. There's the rumor that it will move to Neonopolis at the end of Fremont St. But they are probably just going to reopen it at the Hilton rather than move all that junk over. I'm glad that this is going into consideration seeing as the Experience is the only high end Attraction in Vegas and I enjoyed it very much.I guess it also depends on whether or not Cedar Fair will come back to host. Also, I'm now old enough to enjoy a goldfish bowl sized, dry ice infused, alcoholic beverage from Quarks Bar...should the specialty drinks return as well.

^Star Trek is moving, ableit in modified form, to Neonopolis. They were supposed to open this past week (to coincide with the movie), but it has been delayed until next month. Up first is supposedly just a portion of the museum and restaurant. Any plans for the ride portion to return are a ways off. They just closed the movie theatre last weekend so who knows if the new ST:TE will fail before it even opens.

As for the dome, it still brings people in with minimal investments. Its served them well for the past 15 years (16 in August). I figure by getting rid of Rim Runner its bound to save them some money in the long run. The last time I worked there was during winter semester break in 2004-2005 and at the time they only ran Rim Runner on the weekends to save money on the power required for the pumps (not to mention manpower as it requires the most attendants of any ride in the park.)

Interesting fact about the article is they are talking about attendance. They are not talking about tickets/wristbands. They base attendance on the number of folks walking into the park. When I first worked there in high school they had an admissions person stand out there with a "clicker" to keep hourly counts of people walking in. Then sometime around that fall (before the holidays) they added photo eyes to the entry arches to keep track. When those arent working, they still have the person in the lil security booth use a clicker.

Neonpolis is a dump. And a ghost town. Star Trek won't last long there.

^Especially now that the movie theatre is closed. Theres nothing else there.

Its strange really...theres a lot of relatively new stuff downtown, just not at Neonopolis. There's been a stigma about the place since before it opened. I do have to say I enjoyed going to the movies there...no crowds, excellent sound system.

Was downtown a month ago (unwittingly during Knight Rider Con..thingy..lots of K.I.T.'s and a fully decked out Delorean ) and "Neo" was open but the ticket prices were outrageous so didn't see anything. Wasn't there a restaurant/arcade deal in the same building as "Neo"?
