Mr Stratosphere Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 So today is my Friday at work. I get home and there is a notice from the DMV. Apparently my car registration was suspended on the 14th. The reasoning? They said my car insurance denied I ever had coverage when I bought my car. Excuse me!?!? You need proof of insurance in Nevada to register your car in the first place!!! I called up my car insurance Geico and they said I was fine on their end. Its this Western Insurance Company that is giving me problems. It's the insurance I had with my car in the first place. So I have all the proof I need to say that I had insurance. But I cannot drive my car anywhere right now so I have to take the bus to the DMV tomorrow morning, and the DMV is 20 miles away from my house, about a 3 hr bus ride with all the transfers I have to take. The DMV would charge me 250 bucks to reinstate my registration if I didn't have insurance. This really bugs me because I pay a lot for insurance every month, just say its over 300 bucks and I always pay on time!! Why am I being hassled when there are people on the roads that don't even have insurance, license plates, or drivers licenses for that matter! Has anyone else had any problems like this?? Wish me luck tomorrow, I have school as well. This puts a damper on some plans lol! John
spaceace12 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I had a small accident a couple years back. The car I hit had other damage, but the other person involved had us call the cops. We told the cop we weren't going the insurance route and was pretty sure a report wouldn't be filed. Fast forward 4 months and I rarely open mail, I finally get to my mail and I find a notice saying my license was suspended after failing to submit proof of insurance after a accident. I still drove because I had too, but my insurance company submitted the paper work.
AllenA07 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I've sent California notice over 5 times now that I've moved, and yet I've been told they are going to send me to collections to collect my registration fees.

That sucks so much! Sorry to hear! I had a friend as well that was sent to collections for 2 bucks from the hospital. 2 bucks!! John
AllenA07 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 So far they have not done it, if they did I'd just whine a bit and take care of it. They can collect from me what I don't owe them.
Mr Stratosphere Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 So here's the update.. I woke up this morning at 6am to get to the DMV at 7. My Mom had to take me because legally I cannot drive my car. So after spending 5 hours at the DMV they verbally contacted my car insurance company that I did in fact have insurance on my car the first month I owned it. So now they put a pardon on my suspension of car registration. Now my insurance has until May 16 to send in a letter to the DMV or else I have to go through all of this crap again. John
mcjaco Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 ^ I'd put good money down that we'll be hearing this same story after May 16th.
Mr Stratosphere Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 ^ Yeah I have the same feeling too. Not looking forward to this crap again. John
ChrisCrowder Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Makes me sort of glad I can't drive and don't have to put up with this sort of thing. But at the end of July, I am going to have to start paying full fare bus prices which for me will be about £3 a day ( or 6USD) when pensioners get free bus travel anywhere in the country, unlimited! It's not fair, I use buses more...
Mr Stratosphere Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Luckily everything worked out and both insurance companies contacted the DMV and this crap is off of my chest!! Hopefully I didn't jinx myself.. John
