aramy Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Hi everyone, as this is my first topic, please let me introduce myself in a short way: End-Thirty, living in Cologne, Germany. Did not ride Costers for decades - up to an Business trip to Orlando, where I went to SeaWorld and tried KRAKEN. This was a beginning of an addiction which attached my wife also... As we are on a small holiday trip in NYC next week we are planning to go to Six Flags Great Adventure! There are some questions I´d like to ask: (Sorry if some of these are already asked, I searched but didn´t found the exact answers. Sorry for my bad english as well in advance) - We only have the possibility to go on Fr, April 25 - Sa, 26 or Su 27 We plan to go on Friday - Is this probably the right choice? - How long does it usually take to get from Manhatten to the Park. We wanted to start at 7:30 am. To early or to late? - If we arrive on 9:30 - will (under normal circumstances) Gold Flash passes still be available? - Are there exact prices for the goldpasses for April 25 available (2 persons) appr. 100$ ? - Starting the rides with El Torro, then Kingda Ka, then the Rest? - Are there any coupons available? - Makes it sense to order the tickets via internet in advance? -Are there any other tips? Thanks in advance! aramy
Sue Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Local McDonald's restaurants have coupons. I believe the one right outside the park on Rt. 537 had them when we stopped in there last weekend. It's good for either buy-one-get-one free during the week or $20 off other times. If you go on Friday, that would be especially helpful. Definitely plan to get to Kingda Ka as soon as possible. They've only been running 2 trains so far this season so that wait could get long. It's quite rough so try to ride as close to the front as possible for the most comfortable ride.
Rct3man777 Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 ^Ask them not to put grease on that coupon...Just a tip.
sugart Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 - We only have the possibility to go on Fr, April 25 - Sa, 26 or Su 27 We plan to go on Friday - Is this probably the right choice? Friday would be the best bet, but if you are getting a Gold Flash pass, you should be able to do everything - How long does it usually take to get from Manhatten to the Park. We wanted to start at 7:30 am. To early or to late? Not sure. www.mapquest.com is a good place to start. I think its about 1- 1 1/2 hrs. - If we arrive on 9:30 - will (under normal circumstances) Gold Flash passes still be available? Yes - Are there exact prices for the goldpasses for April 25 available (2 persons) appr. 100$ ? Not sure, try www.sixflags.com It should be on there. - Starting the rides with El Torro, then Kingda Ka, then the Rest? Id start with Kingda Ka if its open in the morning then El Toro. - Are there any coupons available? Mcdonalds and also WAWA, which is like a 7/11 only better - Makes it sense to order the tickets via internet in advance? Yes, one less line to wait in. Plus I think the price is less. Like $20 less -Are there any other tips? Have fun, and ride El Toro in the very back. Thanks in advance! aramy
King of Ka Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 - We only have the possibility to go on Fr, April 25 - Sa, 26 or Su 27 We plan to go on Friday - Is this probably the right choice? I'd think so, although it's April, so it probably wouldn't be terrible any way. - How long does it usually take to get from Manhattan to the Park. We wanted to start at 7:30 am. To early or to late? Can't help you there, but it's important to note that on all three days you're considering the park will not open until 10:30. - If we arrive on 9:30 - will (under normal circumstances) Gold Flash passes still be available? As said above, the park opens at 10:30, and I doubt the Flash Passes would sell out anywhere near opening, if during the day at all. - Are there exact prices for the goldpasses for April 25 available (2 persons) appr. 100$ ? Gold Passes start at $71 for one person, and go up ~$35 (they've removed all but the base pricing from their site) from there per person. - Starting the rides with El Torro, then Kingda Ka, then the Rest? This probably makes sense; El Toro is great for a first ride of the day. The Flash Pass line can get longer than some of the rides at times, you it would make sense to get them right when you go in. The Flash pass booth is located not far to the right of the fountain near the entrance, near from the ferris wheel. - Are there any coupons available? Yes, although you'd have to ask somebody closer to the park to find out where exactly. - Makes it sense to order the tickets via internet in advance? With a little searching, you could probably find coupons that lower the price beyond the online price ($40), but with most of those you'd have to go though the ticket gate, which might or might not (probably not) matter depending on when you got there and how crowded it was. -Are there any other tips? As you're going on a weekday in April, you shouldn't have to worry much about crowds. Also, this is a slightly odd experience that's become something of a SFGAdv tradition for me: in the back-middle of the park, there's a little booth that has massages, Wi-fi, and an oxygen bar. The oxygen bar, I've found, is a nice (if not slightly expensive) little place to relax inside the park. Hope this helps, ask if you have any other questions. Have fun!
larrygator Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Are you renting a car? You should schedule 2 hours from Manhattan because there may be traffic leaving Manhattan. Without traffic it takes about 90 minutes. If you can get tickets from the website for $40, it is probably easy than searching for coupons and saves you the hassle of waiting on line at the park to buy the tickets. If you are driving, there is a convenience store named "WaWa" that will be on the right hand side of the road 1-2 kilometers before you get to the SFGAdv entrance. They have coupons on the counter next to the cashier for $20 off the admission price. Always head to Kingda Ka and El Toro as the first two rides.
Teacups Make Me Sick Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 If you go on Friday...plan to leave VERY early. Your idea of leaving at 7:30 might do you good since the turnpike can be brutal. Especially on Fridays since those pesky NY'ers are cluttering up the roads. If you are hungry...I would suggest stopping at the Wawa outside of the park. If they are serving it, they have the most awesome Mac and Cheese. Actually, all the food is pretty darn good (for a convenience store)....they have breakfast sandwiches and a deli counter to make sandwiches to order. Good Luck
downunder Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I agree with the advice to get the tickets on the net, get to the park as early as possible, hopefully they will let you through before opening and just have a rope up. I went on a Monday in Aug 2006 and they did, and went back Wednesday and they didn't. Most important, head straight for the Flash Pass building once you get in, look up the park map on the net beforehand so you know where you are going. It appears they aren't doing Flash Passes on the net this year.
