verticalzero Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Since tasting Root Beer (Can't buy RB anywhere in the UK) when I was in Ohio a couple of years ago, I deicded to buy 24 cans of A&W from a website which imports American food. Someone suggested I added Ice Cream to it as this makes the drink taste better. Can anyone else suggest adding anything else to Root Beer.
Hercules Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 What you are saying is called a Root Beer Float, and yes, they are very tasty. I personally enjoy making root beer slushies, where you gently blend the soda with some ice, and add anything that you want to it, like ice cream, or maybe some cherry liquor to give it a little extra flavor and a kick.
Teacups Make Me Sick Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 No A&W in the UK??!!! Another brand to try is Stewarts, it is fantastic. Can you get Birch Beer??
Hercules Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 ^ I was just going to suggest Stewart's. One of those with a root beer float might make you have a heart attack it is so good.
sfotkid Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 A&W is were its at! I tried making a Root Beer Cake, like a Coca Cola Cake, and it was actually pretty good!
larrygator Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Boylan's is my favorite root beer available on the East Coast. They have great cream soda, also.
Bubba83 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I've been trying all kinds or Root Beers from the local BevMo. Boylans is good, but Dad's Old Fashioned is still my favorite. Virgil's was also quite good, really complex with some interesting things used. (like anise) Virgil's claims to be from the UK, so I'd be very surprised if you can't get it at a specialty shop... Here's the website... http://www.virgils.com/index.html By the way, root beers like that which include many spices are probably not the best for Root Beer floats. If you're interested in making your own root beer, this place might be a good way to start: http://www.leeners.com/rootbeer.html
sfotkid Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Here you are Teacups, not exactly the same but it's pretty close! Yum.....
dandaman Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Buy some Nestle ice cream "pucks"... it's what we put in the floats at A&W anyway. Dan "Packaged for uniformity, and at least it's Nestle ice cream!" Smith
