Tanks4me05 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Here's a project I have been working on for the past few weeks - a single bench wooden coaster train. It isn't as complex as the Shuriken Coaster, but IMO it is still cool. Future projects: Roller coaster trains: -Inverted roller coaster -Stand Up Roller Coaster (I will explore several new, more comfortable restraint systems, so there will be a good three models of this.) -Steel Sit Down Roller Coaster -Possibly more Flat Rides: -Metronome -Slammer -Insanity (it's called that for a reason.) -Several rides that do not have a name at this time. (The flat rides will be the really complex stuff.) Anyway, on to the pics! Here is an overview of the latest prototype train from Strata Thrills Company - a Single Bench wooden coaster. This is the underside of the new train. Here are the restraints of the wooden coaster. This is the car link system and Chain Dog (s). Here is the wheel assembly. Pictured here is the zero car.
Tanks4me05 Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 ^Yep, still using Inventor, like I did for the Shuriken Coaster.
DBru Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Very cool. I love all of your ride concepts (so far)...
haux Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 That looks OK, but it appears to have a really tight squeeze getting in and out of the coaster.
Tanks4me05 Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 Is this any better? The original distance was 11.5 inches - now its 18.25 inches.
leighton Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 The zero car of the train should be roll only, and the rest of the cars should be trailered onto the back of the one in front using the ball coupler. The coupler you have included would probably pull out, Intamin and GCI use this kind of ball set up for their trailered coaster trains: Other than that, its quite a good effort.
Tanks4me05 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 ^I have never seen such an extreme close up on a train like that, so I didn't have anything to compare it to. In fact, I was using GCII Millennium Flyers as a basis.
thrillrideseeker Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 WOW! I like the restraints! They remind me a lot of a Premier LIM! Great job!! Keep up the good work! ~Matthew
Moose Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 What does that clearance look like with the restraints in the up position (when you will actually be entering/leaving the train)? Overall it looks really nice and open.
Tanks4me05 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 ^Hmmmmm. I just tried that, and I found out that there is almost no room to get in. Well, I guess I have to do a major overhaul.
