Splash_Mountain Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I saw at a Dell kiosk in the mall that it had a moving background with a waterfall and stuff. Well, my sister just got a Inspiron with Vista and we can't find any. Where do you get them?
RCFreak Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I believe you need to have Windows Vista Ultimate and download Dreamscape under extras. You can then download Stardock's Deskscapes as an add-on to Dreamscape and add even more backgrounds.
TheRapidsNerd Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I heard or read somewhere that you can basically take movie clips and use them as that moving background in Vista. Exactly how, no clue, but reasonably sure it's movie clips (like .WMV). While on a couple of park trips earlier this year, I tried to shoot some video for exactly that reason. Great Windows Gurus of TPR, am I pretty close on this?
mantis2004 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 You have to have the Ultimate version of Windows to do this. It is possible to enable DreamScapes with non-Ultimate versions, however this is not the forum for that. Unless your computer is capable of handling the power required by this, it's pretty much useless, however it is nice to have some movement while doing mundane tasks in Windows (i.e. listening to music, etc...). Long videos become rather annoying btw! Simple and subtle are the way to go.
Splash_Mountain Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 How do I find out which version of Vista she has?
spaceace12 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 More than likely vista home premium. Unless the pc is pretty extremely fast and specified Ultimate, it probalby has home premium.
asr Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Moving backgrounds can be done easily in XP. Maybe not as high quality as Vista, but just select any animated GIF as your background and watch the results.
CommanderLock Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Yes, you need Ultimate. If you're willing to shell out $150 for the Home Premium>Ultimate upgrade, then why not. There's supposed to be more Ultimate-exclusive stuff coming out throughout Vista's lifetime.
spaceace12 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 All Vista installs have ultimate installed, they are just locked.
