Everyone once in awhile I’ll get this urge… an urge to ride. So today, I had one of those urges while I was at work. So after I finished up on the midnight shift at the brewery, I hopped in the car and headed down to good ole’ Six Flags Marine World.

It was a beautiful day out. The marine layer had dissipated and the sun was out shinning. It was probably about 70 degrees or so. Awesome weather for a park visit.

Headed over to the main gate around 9:30 and stood around looking all goofy by myself and sporting my NEW Theme Park Review t-shirt. 10:00 comes around, and the gates open… well almost. One gate opened, the one I was standing in front of was stuck. So when that happened, everyone headed to the gate that was open. It was like a damn Who concert or something. I stood there not wanting to get trampled. Eventually someone from management had the great idea to open the gate by hand. I thought, “How in genius!” The opening of the gate was a very slow process. When the gate was about 2 ft open, I said, “Screw it!” and rolled under the gate and handed my pass to the ticket taker.

What I learned from my last trip to Six Flags Marine World? RIDE MEDUSA FIRST!

One again, only a 3 man operation on the platform, and only 2 trains running. Got into the front seat of the very first ride of the day. Nice and smooth, and very enjoyable! I talked with a ride op about the 3 man operation and he said there just waiting for kids to get out of school. Usually Medusa will have 6 ride ops on the platform with all 3 trains running. I asked him when that happens, do you still stack trains? He just laughed. I walked away with a confused look on my face.

After Medusa, I headed to the V2 and Roar area. Big surprise… closed!

So after finding out that Roar was closed, I was pretty bummed out. Roar is probably one of my favorite woodies. Believe it or not, a Vekoma made my day. It’s been years since I rode a boomerang. But today, I rode one… and that’s what put the smile back on my face.

After a little Vekoma fun I headed to Stargate 3000. All I can say is…WTF! Does anyone know if this ride was meant to be in 3-D? It was either suppose to be 3-D, or the focus on the projector was way out of whack!

Finished up my hour and a half trip with another Vekoma, Kong. Uh, it was ok. I wish there was another B&M invert in Nor-Cal besides Top Gun.

All and all, the park was pretty dead. The weather was perfect. And my urge is gone.

Who’s up for PGA next Friday?

I've never seen Medusa wtih 3 trains. I've also never seen Medusa with 6 ops. Thay may just be because I try not to got at crowded times, but I doubt it.

Nice TR, sounds like you had a good day, except for Roar and V2 being closed. I haven't been to SFMW to ride in ages, but it sounds like it hasn't changed much.

Nice pic of Kong, that pretty much sums up any ride on an SLC...

Wow Wally, why did you go on Medusa first? The line moves SO fast! Next time we will take EVERYONE else's advice and do Medusa first and not wait...

Sounds like you had an ok time, you were at a Six Flags park after all...

I can't believe I forgot to put this my post, but the most amazing thing happened while I was there...

A ride op actually kicked someone out of line for line jumping! It was the most amazing thing I ever seen!

Wow, Roar, V2 AND Zonga closed. I was actually thinking of stopping by on Wenesday after dropping some people off at OAK. I'm glad I saved the $10 and aggrivation. I just went to the Novato skatepark instead. All rides were open there! 8)

God Stargate is teh dumb. I kinda missed Mongor and the Data Rapers last time I was there.

I'd hit up PGA with you tomorrow but I gotta get ready for our Branson trip next week.

What kind of deal did you get on airfare to St Louis? I was thinking about hitting up Worlds of Fun and then head over to Silver Dollar to ride Powder Keg.

Train Town? ...maybe.

It was actually cheaper (and closer) to fly into Kansas City. We went with Frontier Airlines on travelocity for around $230/each. Southwest offers nonstops to Kansas City from oakland so you may want to check them out as well.

You know, if you dont mind a little driving, WOF, SFStL, and Branson make a nice little triangle! Mr Freeze may be worth it.

If you have a chance though don't miss Silver Dollar City. It's seriously one of our favorite parks. We rate it higher than Dollywood even. Plus were going to see Yakov! You can't do that in piegon forge!

Well, I only work on weekends. What would you expect a coaster tool to do with that much free time? 8)

We're actually about halfway through our summer trips. All thats left now is the week in Branson, 3 weeks in Europe, and a week in Chicago/Dells before the fall trips to Haunt at Knotts and HHN at USF/IOA.

Of course we'll have to go to WDW again while we're there...and then Cypress is getting that spinner...and isn't Space Mountain opening soon...and we have that SFMM Hurricane Harbor ticket that is just going to waste....

I don't plan the trips, the trips plan me!!

What kind of weekend job do you have, were you have to work just weekends? I need something like that. Play all week while people are at work, and work all weekend while people fight huge crowds to entertain themselves.

Posted

Yeah, it is pretty sweet. I do short term heathcare related contracts. The contract I'm on now is in San Francisco and keeps getting extended and I'm happy to stay put.

I was able to set up my hours to 16 on sat and 16 on sun. I still work 32 hours a week but I get 5 days off in a row. Also as part of my contract all housing and transportation and a daily food allowance (I'm a shrewd negotiator 8) )

Of course to be qualified for my job I had to spend two years of college with absolutly NO MONEY at all. This is my way of catching up.

If you ever get the urge to ride at SFMW again (M-F only) let me know and we'll meet you there! Or if you have a weekend off and want to bring the fam to SF for a hike or picnic my hospital is in a great location, plenty of free parking and awesome golden gate views!

Very cool! I'll have to keep that in mind.

Day off?! Ha... I'm at 7 days a week mode right now.

If I head off to SFMW, your the first person I'll call.

You know we actually went to SFMW one day in the rain, and the ride-op at the road runner coaster was so bored that she said if we we're willing to sit in bucket seats full of water we could ride no problem!

It was wet, but thats how kiddie credits should be!

Now, if your talking PGA's Taxi Jam, I'm your CreHo. Wait until you see me getting my Junior Gemini credit in this years DVD

That is wrong in so many ways!

I have ridden Jr Gemini a number of times... in my adult life. Someone as to test ride every morning before the kiddies get on.

Oh, I was finally able to watch your Funderland video. Dude, were totally going there! I didn't know they had a train too.

Now I just have to find out if anyone has been to the two parks in Lodi and Fresno. It would be a great feat of coaster whoreness to actually venture into the central valley for off-beat coasters.
