jackskellington101
I know this stretches the term "Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & [Enter third topic here, currently Guy T. Koepp]", but it has to do with businesses currently in Parks and possible further ideas. From the Orlando Business Journal: Levy Restaurants and Schussler Creative Inc. - two companies with extensive Orlando operations - are partnering to open and operate as many as 10 new themed attractions, restaurants and retail store chains. Concepts announced on Wednesday range from the world's best hot dogs to a cafe celebrating the fictional exploits of a retro/reggae musical genre called Aerobleu. Multiple locations of each concept are planned and no locations were announced. Levy operates three themed restaurants in Central Florida. Walt Disney World selected the Levy brothers in 1985 to open three restaurants at what was then called the Disney Village Marketplace. Since then the company has taken over the operation of Wolfgang Puck's restaurant and Downtown Disney as well as the catering for the Orange County Convention Center. Schussler Creative is preparing to open Yak and Yeti, a themed restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom and in development on the second of his oversized dinosaur-themed T-Rex Cafes at Downtown Disney. Founder Steve Schussler had his biggest success with Rainforest Cafe, a restaurant concept he later sold to Landry's Restaurants (NYSE:LNY) in 2000. A third partner in the concept roll out is Red Development LLC. The business, with home offices in both Kansas City and Phoenix, was formed in 1995 to develop, lease, manage and own shopping centers throughout the country. The proposed concepts include: * The Hot Dog Hall of Fame -- A huge selection of sausages with an entire palette of mustards to paint the hot dogs. * America's RoadHouse -- Comfort food and live blues music with a vintage backdrop. * Aerobleu -- The Spirit of Cool -- A Paris jazz club tied to a musical myth concocted by three entertainment marketing executives that is tied to vintage airplanes. The decor is retro and the food and drink will be influenced by Cuba, New Orleans, New York, London and Paris. * The Sorcerer's Kitchen -- A Renaissance-era magic school with plenty of wizardry and hearty food like rotisserie chicken and smoked meat. * Winter Wonderland -- A year round winter weather environment matched with cold-weather comfort food. * Musical Gardens -- Fine dining in an outdoor garden atmosphere. * Dynasty -- Pan-Asian food in an opulent Chinese palace. Three more concepts are still in development from Schussler's headquarters in Golden Valley, Minn. I can definitely see some of those concepts going into a Downtown Disney or a CityWalk on either coast. However, it's The Sorcerer's Kitchen idea that strikes me. Is it just me or does this seem like an idea that is bound to go into the Harry Potter land in IOA. The concept mentioned sounds like the concept for a Great Hall restaurant. The RoadHouse one sounds fun too, but only if Patrick Swayze is the bouncer.
Meteornotes
I will be amazed if Mythos does not get transformed into a Harry Potter themed restaurant, complete with dumb downed typical park food menu. And that will be a sad day... dt

And that will be a sad day... dt But does the Harry Potter Land go that far? From everything I've seen and heard, it doesn't seem like it does. I could be greatly mistaken, but I thought the current idea was that Harry Potter isn't taking over all of Lost Continent, only most of Lost Continent. The Harry Potter transformation was going to stop around the Sinbad area, leaving the Greek Mythology Section pretty much intact. That would save Mythos. At least, that's my hope. As much as the Harry Potter land seems like a cool idea, I do love Mythos. It still ranks among the top eating experiences I've had in a park. BarryH
^Yeah, I heard the Lost Continent will be shrunk down to Posideon's Fury and Mythos. If they retheme Mythos, you might as well re-do Posideon's Fury to a Harry Potter theme. Maybe that might be a good thing... As for the other restaurants, not to be the bearer of bad news, but how many of them will be empty buildings by year's end? We've seen a lot of Orlando tourist attractions and business fail. pianojohn
I am all for new restaurants, but the food cannot suck! In my opinion, other than Latin Quarter (I have not had the $$$ to do Emeril's yet), all of the other eateries at CityWalk are mediocre at best. Save your money and go across the street to the Orlando Ale House. Good food, much better value. Hmmm...this is pretty off track, so how about a coaster themed restaurant? Use old coaster cars for seating....
bobafett
^I agree with you pianojohn about the restaurants in CityWalk, except for the Latin Quarter which I love. Theme restaurants get old after awhile. It is always the same food served in a different setting. That is why it is nice if you have a car while on vacation you can go outside of the parks and search for something different. While we were in Orlando this past August we found a little out of the way place that served great puerto rican and dominican food. You just have to be willing to go beyond the parks and International Drive t to find something. Most of the time though families are content to just stay inside the parks and eat at the restaurants that they offer. My husband and I have eaten at both of Emeril's restaurants in Orlando, the original and Emeril's Tchoup Chop at the Royal Pacific Hotel. Both were very good and it is only something we do when we are on vacation.

Let me be the first to say it, but most of these "themed" restaurants sound like snoozers to me. I am interested in that T-Rex one though...my son would LOVE that! BarryH
Personally, I want to see a restaurant-themed restaurant.
