Sue Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 During the afternoon on Saturday, we headed to the NJ shore to visit Casino Pier in Seaside Heights. The main reason for our visit was to ride the newly opened Pirate's Hideaway coaster. Since we had a 1/2 price ticket book that we bought during their annual Easter sale, we were able to ride quite a bit more as well. Everyone was on the beach so it was easy to ride everything that we wanted. Pirate's Hideaway looks good from the outside, but as I've heard others say, it's like riding a coaster through a warehouse. No theming inside at all! The trains are nicely themed, but are very uncomfortable. Chillin' at Casino Pier: Hot Tamale coaster: Awesome Disk'o ride on the edge of the pier over the ocean: Wild Mouse: Yay for indoor Scramblers! Star Jet coaster(the placement of this ride makes you feel like you're going in the ocean): Stillwalk Manor dark ride: Sky Ride: Funtown Pier in the distance:
coasterdude5 Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Great trip report. These seaside parks look awesome, but I've never been to one... Which one is the best, in your opinion?
Sue Posted August 7, 2007 Author Posted August 7, 2007 For seaside parks, I'd have to go with Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on the west coast as my favorite. For the east coast, it would probably be Wildwood. None of the coasters at Wildwood are that great, but there's still quite a bit to ride there. The Zoom Phloom there is the best flume ride I've ever been on.
ECZenith Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I love Seaside Heights, they were building Pirate's Hideaway when I went last year and I was so eager to try it, but after hearing it's themed even less than the Wizard's Cavern, which it replaced, I'm not going to make a special trip out to see it. Dissapointing, but maybe with time they'll update the ride.
CoasterCrazy88 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Great TR. Casino Pier looks like a lot of fun. The wild mouse looks very cool, but Star Jet looks awesome. I'm a big fan of the larger Miler coasters such as Hi-Miler and Scandia Screamer. They are so much fun, even though they're not big at all. Are there any good airtime moments on Star Jet? ----Antonio"Even that Pirate's thing looks kind of fun!"G.

Dissapointing, but maybe with time they'll update the ride. Unfortunately, the best part of Pirate's Hideaway is the facade. Forget about the lack of interior theming and the weird seats, the coaster itself is just terrible, particularly the pacing. Love Bugs / Wizard's Cavern was a much better ride.
ECZenith Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I actually took a POV video from Wizard's Cavern a while ago, wish I knew where it went.
CHILLERLC1 Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Star Jet has an awesome first drop and really high banked turn after the second drop. Pirate's Castaway was my 250th coaster.
