youthink?
This was my first time at both of these parks so I didn't know what to expect. We arrived at Chicago Saturday night, on Sunday we just drove around, going on the Sears Tower, etc. Monday was Six Flags day! Right when we saw the cars trying to get into the parking lot I thought holy crap! It took almost 20 minutes to actually park! And of course my sister decided she had to go to the bathroom while we were waiting. So when we enter the park she runs straight to the bathroom. After she was done we walked to Hurricane Harbor where we set camp and my mom, sister, and me went off to hit the coasters! We went to Viper and waited about 20 minutes to get on near the front. The line goes by fairly quick and it's shaded as well! This turned out to be my favorite ride there, it had airtime galore! The turns threw you to the side, t was crazy! A surprisingly good coaster! Raging Bull was next, with around a 40 minute or so wait. My mom hates heights, so it was hilarious when it did that little dip at the beginning, then drops you 205 feet into a tiny tunnel! This one was good, although it was kind of boring after the first drop. Love the seats though! Demon was next with around a 10 minute wait. If you keep your head back the ride isn't that rough, and that tunnel with the lights was fun! Deja Vu's line was around an hour and a half wait so we didn't go on that one. We walked over to American Eagle with a 10 minute wait for the very back. The racing aspect was really fun, and that huge helix was insane! Our train won of course. Wink We saw Iron Wolf so naturally went over there. Holy ****. I couldn't walk straight after that thing! It didn't help that we were in the very back. My sister (Sarah) was yelling "HOLY CRAP MY VA JAY JAY IS BUSTED!" Laughing After a drink of water we walked over to Vertical Velocity with around an hour wait! It was worth it though because you get a good thrill launching and getting help up so high in the air! Since Batman was near we decided to brave the hour and a half wait to go on. It broke down while we were waiting of course so it then got pushed to a 2 hour wait! We sat near the back and it was crazy intense! My feet were numb after this one. A little too short, however I understand it was the first inverted coaster. We walke dover to Hurricane Harbor to cool off for a little bit and got a couple rerides on Viper and Raging Bull. Deja Vu's and Superman's lines were still around an hour and a half wait so I said screw it (I'm coming back next year on a band field trip) and we left around 7. Overall a really good SF park, loved it! The next park is the park that I've been dreaming about, Cedar Point. I've been heavily anticipating this since god knows how long! All of those huge coasters made me feel like I'm in heaven! I'm so jealous of you people who live so close to this amazing park that can go whenever they wish. As for me, I only had a day and a half so I had to get going! We were planning to run straight to Maverick, but we went on Corkscrew first for some odd reason. Around a 10 minute wait for front row. Fun ride, the corkscrews over the midway was neat. After that we saw Magnum and decided to go on that! That station was a mess, I couldn't tell what line was for which row! We just picked one and got somewhere near the middle. Amazing ride, love the extreme airtime near the end! The setting doesn't hurt either. Gemini followed, and gave a fun filled ride. We sat in the very back of the blue train and we won! That first drop was surprisingly intense! We finally headed to Maverick, which looked like the sex. Not turned off by the hour and 45 minute wait we got in line. Guess who I saw while waiting in line: Snoo! I first saw him when we were on that bridge leading into the crowded queue over the lake! Haha that was funny. Right when we were about to go on it shut down for around 20 minutes. I got pretty irritated and they finally opened and put us in the back seat! Man this ride just blew my mind, that first drop was steeper then steep! The low to to the ground turns were amazing, as is the ejector hill! The 2 inversions had hangtime, and then the tunnel. Man sensory overload! I love the lights! Then you go speeding over the lake and through these 2 weird twisty hills, over another hill, the brakes. DEFINATELY worth the wait, we went on it 2 more times throughout our stay, it was that good! Since Mean Streak had a ridiculous line, we hopped on over to MF. The line moved by fast, except the music was so loud! We got on near the back of the train in an hour. I wasn't nervous before the ride, but when we were staring straight up into the sky, I got scared! Before I was prepared for the intense drop, it came. I threw my arms up at the top, and we got pulled down the 310 drop! At the bottom I saw spots. Then came the huge overbank, and the speed coming out of it took me by surprise. The ride was good, but I thought the only excellent parts were the lift, drop, and 1st overbank. It wasn't an overall good ride like Maverick. We then had to go back to our hotel room. Day 2 Arrived at 10 and ran straight to Maverick and got my mom to ride! She said it was good except the first drop made her vision blurry. She loved the "sparkly" lights in the tunnel lol. Me and Sarah saw Mean Streak had 0 wait time so rode that in the very front. I actually loved it, I love a rough ride! The first drop would be soo much better if it wasn't trimmed (Mantis.) Wicked Twister seemed fun, so rode that in the very back. I love it when you twist up really high! We got hungry so we ate at Johnny Rocket's and regretted it when the overly loud music came on and the waitors stopped what they were doing and started dancing Rolling Eyes The food was good though. It started raining but stopped so we thought why not ride Raptor? We had to wait 2 and a half hours to ride. 3 delays, and the part that I hated was they waited 10 minutes after it stopped raining to start testing it, then they ran each train like 10 times each, and when it reopened it started raining again! Evil or Very Mad We got in the very front and liked it but it wasn't better then the Patriot, this one had a little too much headbanging for a B&M. Blue Streak was next, which was an ok ride. Iron Dragon followed, which was a fun ride, love the foggy helix! Mantis was enar so we rode that. That thing hurt my you know what! Laughing It wasn't as bad as Iron Wolf, and this had a better layout and color scheme, probably the best color scheme I ever saw. I was finally brave enough to ride the Top Thrill Dragster. OH MY GOD!!11!!1!1 This ride was the most insane thing I ever did! We only waited 40 minutes to ride. I was so scared during the line I couldn't even look at the tower. The "Baby I'm Ready To Go" music got me pumped up, as we took a seat near the back. Being the second train made the anticipation worse, as you have to watch the train launch in front of you. As we rolled into the launch position, I yelled "TAKE CARE OF MY CHILDREN, GIVE THEM THE HAPPIEST LIFE!" People were staring at you as the train slowly creeped back, and that noise comes on. I let out the loudest scream I could, the lights went down too fast to green, the train was going to fast to be safe, my face pressing back into my skull, we were looking down 420 feet, still screaming, spiraling, brakes. Biggest rush I ever got! I was laughing so hard for the next 5 minutes! After that amazing experience it was nearing sunset so we got a night ride on Maverick (Much more insane,) and a night ride on TTD. I prefer daytime so you can take in the visuals around you, but still a good rush. We then had to leave the park and drive 12 hours back home. Sad It was the best time of my life. DCody
Ohhh man, that makes me want to go to Cedar Point so bad! As for SFGAm, I agree that Viper kicks butt. Totally underrated woodie, in my opinion. Same goes for the Eagle-- I mean really, that is one beautiful coaster, with that breathtaking helix. I must stop reading all these sexy descriptions of Maverick. That coaster is starting to haunt my dreams. I have to ride it before the year is out.
texashorns82492
Sounds like you had a better trip than me to SFGAm But I agree with you, Viper is a great coaster. My problem was I sat on the right side and my leg almost got severed during some of the turns! haha I thought American Eagle was a great coaster (except for that pointless brake and turn thing towards the end). I had heard it was boring but it was great actually! Great trip report!
hemmy
That is strange you got head banging on Raptor other than the rough break run after the final helix. But Raptor and Patriot are very different, mainly because Raptor is so much more intense, especially the cobra roll. Can't decide which I like better though, because I get headaches easy from intense rides due to inheriting a weak sinus, so they are pretty equal in my book. DarkMeasures
I went to SFGAm last week. I can say this now. Viper has aged very well unlike most woodies. Back when I first rode it the year Southwest Territory opened, I thought it was alright. I really thought that most of the park's other coasters were better. But each year, the ride has seemed to have gotten better. When I rode it last week, it was pretty much OMG AWESOME! American Eagle really needs new trains. OH NOES IT BROKE! They got it working in a second though. Me and my sister in line for ANOTHER long line for Vertical Velocity. Deja Vu! The line was extremely long for this one too and didn't want to wait for it. I'm the one in the back. Batman! We waited 2 friggin hours for this. Viper was the best ride there! Airtime galore! Seriously underrated woodie. TUNNEL OF DEATH! Raging Bull ownage. The weather was pretty nice for a day at the park! I love the Tornado waterslide! AHH RAGING BULL COMING TO EAT YOU! Batman and a little Vertical Velocity in the distance. Supaman! I didn't ride this though, the lines were horrendous for this! I'll just ride it next year on my band field trip. That thing is pretty high! Oh noes the sun hit the Sears Tower! These are from on top of the Sears Tower by the way. Nice sunset! Here just a tiny bit of the huge Chicago skyline.
