Skramp Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 In case you didn't know, today is The Cyclone's (Astroland) 80th birthday. Does that make it the oldest operating coaster? Or is there an older one? http://www.daytondailynews.com/search/content/shared-gen/ap/National/Cyclones_8th.html
Homer Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Nope, Leap the Dips at Lakemont Park celebrated its 100th birthday back in 2002. http://www.rcdb.com/id243.htm But good news for the Cyclone though, happy birthday to the world's most iconic coaster.
Airtime&Gravity Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 ^Isn't the wooden coaster at Tivoli the oldest, or is it the oldest continually operating coaster?(the one at Tivoli) Good news for the Cyclone though, and it's too bad few coasters are around that are this old.(even 50 is old for a coaster) If only I got a chance to ride it when I was in NYC, but traffic there sucks.
CycloneMan Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I'm leaving in 10 minutes, for the whole Media Celebration thing. I will give you guys a whole report! -Dainan "And pick up my pay checks" Rafferty
Louise Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Although the Cyclone is iconic and old, we decided a while ago that it just wasn't practical to have birthday threads for coasters, otherwise we'd end up with hundreds of them all over the site. Locking. Thanks!! --Lou
