Sony DVD-305

Well....Quite the long story.

 

I purchased this camera long ago

And I'm quite happy with the quality of the product. But recently Ive bought a new computer (Sony LS) and It has Vista as its operating system. Well, the old camera software (Nero Express 6) Doesn't work for Vista...

 

I called the company, they said they're still trying to catch up with Vista, he said he had NO IDEA as to WHEN the product will be updated. Great

 

So Now, basically, I have a useless camera. Ive been wanting to learn how to use Premiere, but now my camera is pretty much out of commission. I haven't even gotten ANY footage onto my computer yet!

 

So if you have ANY help, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I don't see where the question is...do you want to know what camera you should get or advice on Premiere?

 

Honestly just download Premiere and try it out. Its quite easy and fun. But you usually can only upload through a firewire port, so make sure your camera has that.

See...thats the thing. No firewire cable. Im actually looking for word on some sort of software I can get or something! I just need ot get the film off the DVDs so I can edit them into Premire....

 

So the problem is just getting all my footage off

Eh, DVD footage isn't really easy to use for editing. The format isn't compatible with most video editors. So you would have to upload it, convert it (you will lose quality), and then edit. Its quite a hassle. I'd recommend a new camera, Mini DV. I'll check into your current camera though.

If you are going to get Premiere, or have it, I'm assuming you got it illegally so you probably wouldn't mind getting other programs the same way. Get the latest version of Quicktime Pro to convert from MPEG-2 (what's on your DVD disc) to AVI or DV Stream. That requires that you get the footage onto your computer...I'm note sure if you just put the DVD in your CD drive or if the camera is connected to the computer with a cable...

I'm connected through USB..I COULD also put the disc in. So ill work with it...and about Quicktime pro, I just have to type in the Key to upgrade. Easy. And yes...a certain person hooked me up with Premiere

Yeah, those DVD cameras really aren't for people who want to do any serious editing. I honestly can't think of a really good way to get your footage off a DVD and into a proper .avi file.

 

I guess you can search www.videohelp.com for answers.

 

This is why we usually don't reccomend those cameras. They are perfect for the random average Joe guy who wants to video tape is daughter in a school play, come home, pop it into the DVD player and play it back, but if you want to do "editing" first off all the footage quality is already compressed, so it's not the best resolution to begin with, and capturing the footage is a bitch and a half.

 

My suggestion - sell the camera on Ebay and get even a low end MiniDV camera instead!

Probably, but not until I go down to Target and raise Hell with those people first!

Did you actually buy something using advice from a Target emplyee?

 

Big box employees for the most part know nothing about cameras,etc. All they know is how to sell them.

 

Gotta do your own research, and then go into the store and tell them exactly what you need.

 

That way you don't get home and realize you bought yourself a Suny Hundycam.

releasing Vista when it was undeveloped was the worst idea ever.

 

 

the only way i can think of is a card-reader. If not and you have XP, uninstall Vista and re-install XP...
