steel Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Okay, kids, this is the fabled "new project" that I was so excited about. Melling Park is located on Lake Melling in the wonderful and exciting land of... ... Indianapolis. At the moment I can tell you this much - I won't be building chronologically, like many other parks here. I have the park planned and will simply be building in order of convenience. Thus far I've built... -XLR8R - Intamin impulse (tell me if you have a better name) -Town Square Theatre -Capricorn - Vekoma SLC -Firebolt - Zamperla Hawk -Scrambler -Cannonball - S&S Screamin' Swing -Space Tower - Observation Tower -Carousel -Aquamania - Water Ski Show -Swimming Beach -Grizzly Canyon - River Rapids Ride -Tsunami - Shoot the Chutes Ride -Wakiya Falls - Log Chute -Grand Prix - Go-Karts -Challenge Golf -Daredevil - (I think that's what it's called, lol) S&S Double Turbo Drop. -Wrangler - B&M Floorless -Marquee Theatre -Skyride - takes you across the lake But you don't get to see any of that yet, mostly because I've yet to screen them. You do get a preview, though. Entrance Plaza and parking lot
jsahockey09 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Not much to see but it looks like a good start.
thrillrideseeker Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I like the entrance! It looks great! Keep up the good work! ~Matthew
steel Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Okay, I finally got around to taking some screens. Note - I am aware that this park is lacking buildings. I'm working on it. And please comment, as with every other thread. Wrangler Aquamania, Cannonball (I know, I don't like it much either, but it's about the best that can be done) From left: Aquamania, Swimming Beach, Tsunami Grizzly Canyon Capricorn
christianscoasters Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 The beginning of the coaster in the last picture reminds me of Hydra. Oh wait, it's almost EXACTLY like Hydra! This park is looking amazing so far. I REALLY like the entrance!
thrillrideseeker Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 WOW! I love Capricorn! It reminds me of "The Gaunlet" Great job! Keep up the good work! ~Matthew
jsahockey09 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Not only are you lacking buildings but you need A LOT more trees. Plus that water park is a little iffy. It deffinatley needs some more buildings and maybe be in a different part of the park instead of right next to everything else. I really like Wrangler though. Good job! Keep up the great work!
steel Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 @smartestcoasterkidever! - Not even almost. It's exactly the same. All it is is a Jo-jo roll, though. No big deal. @thrillrideseeker - Thanks. I really like the way that ride turned out. @jsahockey09 - First of all, it isn't in a very tree-heavy area, so there won't be all that many trees. Enough, but not that many. Second, that area is not a water park. That's just the part of the park with most of the water rides (a la Hershey) - guests can wear their swimsuits there. Thanks for your comments.
steel Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 Okay, time for another update. Introducing Cutlass, a twisted GCI woodie. I'm really proud of this ride. I think it looks awesome. I'm excited to see how it looks when the park is finished. On a side note, I've added a catered area near Wrangler and have completely remodeled Midway Munchies (near Capricorn). I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Eric_Smith Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 It's a Magic Mounta.....I mean parking lot coaster. . Other than that it's great.
steel Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 http://www.rcdb.com/ig2955.htm?picture=34 You can sort of see the concrete there. http://www.rcdb.com/ig3660.htm?picture=1 And you can definately see it here. It's GCI's new thing.
steel Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 Hey, I apologize for the lack of updates. I've been very busy with school (which means I've been busy with Chemistry ). I don't have anything worth goggling at right now, unless you want pictures of a skycoaster and a Ferris wheel. What I do have, however, might be even better. Introducing RCT3VISION. I'll be taking POVs of all of Melling Park's coasters (that work) in RCT3, so you can decide for yourself how they are. First up is Capricorn. NOTE: I know there are no supports on the lift. That was unintentional and only happened because I was stupid for a few seconds. Capricorn.wmv
Golfie Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 That was awesome! I loved how the ride had no boring spots - everything flowed just right. Also, the whole deal on the "Parking lot coaster" I believe it's a whole different deal on a woodie because of how many footers woodies use - it's much easier to put a bunch of footers on a big 'ol concrete slab rather than into the ground which allows them to move and settle into each other. A steel coaster, however, uses less footers, which is why it looks really crappy on concrete.
christianscoasters Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 This park is coming along GREAT!!! Keep it up!
steel Posted June 2, 2007 Author Posted June 2, 2007 I'm finally getting some more time to work now that finals are almost over, I have most of the day free, and there aren't quite as many study guides hanging over my head. And Melling Park has a brand new coaster! That's right! I would like to welcome Wolf Creek Run to Melling Parks ever growing family of coasters. Wolf Creek Run is a classic wooden CyCLONE coaster. It's the tallest wooden ride in the park, and it offers spectacular views of Lake Melling and the rest of Melling Park! In other news, the lake has been completed (finally). Wolf Creek Run is so named because there's a small creek that branches off of the lake. WCR is built over this creek. Several new buildings and rides have also appeared. At the front of the park is Capricorn Gifts. Near Wrangler is the parks first chain - a Famous Dave's. Cutlass's area has been updated a lot. First of all, the last ride in the WET ZONE section of the park has been added. It's called Sawdust Twist - its a duo of dark waterslides that (in reality) would twist around each other, but I couldn't make it work well in RCT2. Also in that area is a Ferris wheel and a skycoaster. Near WCR is Sea Rocker, a swinging ship. Also near WCR is one station of Melling Park's other big thing: Lake Melling Tours. This is a boat that takes people on a cruise around Lake Melling. There is a station near WCR, near XLR8R, and near Grand Prix. Finally, I've decided to announce that the park will be getting THREE more coasters. The last one will be by far the biggest in the park. Now enough with the talking! I know you want to see some screenshots! Oh yes, and do be sure to comment! You know how I love feedback! Here you can see how Cutlass's area has evolved. The park as it is right now. Overview of the coaster. As you can see there are multiple crossovers and there is a long section of trick track. Here's what you've been waiting for. This is Wolf Creek Run. I am completely in love with its station. Lake Melling Tours. This thing moves so slow. The wait times are going to be crazy. Famous Dave's The yellow building is Capricorn Gifts.
steel Posted June 2, 2007 Author Posted June 2, 2007 OMG! Two updates in one day?! And another coaster?! Yep. Well, actually, it's just a kiddie coaster, but either way, it's one of Melling Park's final three coasters. This one is called Minicoaster. There's not really anything special about it. Near Minicoaster is a small kiddie area. WCR's plaza is complete and it looks very nice. There is now a Wave Swinger near Wrangler. I've also built a McDonald's, an Arcade, and Club Melling, a gigantic gift shop with two floors that are restricted without a season pass. There's also a rooftop dining area. Oh yes, and the two sides of the park are now connected. Overview. Club Melling. Beautiful. Wave Swinger. ... Every park should have a kiddie coaster.
steel Posted June 4, 2007 Author Posted June 4, 2007 COMMENT! A small update for you this morning. Not much is new. I had a busy weekend. But I can safely tell you that only one more coaster will be added to Melling Park. That's right, I found time to make MP's second-to-last coaster, Hypno. Hypno is a Gerstlauer spinning coaster. Yes, it's a clone, but it isn't an OMFG overused clone. It looks really weird and out of place right now, but it will look a lot better once the area is more complete. I'm going to finish absolutely everything else before I announce the last coaster. The last coaster is what inspired me to make this park. I literally built the park around this coaster. I hope that gets you a little excited. Once again, please comment because I know where you live and I know what you've done. Overview. Oh yeah, I also built an enterprise, which will look really cool when the park is done. Don't bash me for being inaccurate. Gerstlauer spinners are effing hard to recreate. Hypno. McDonalds. It's not the greatest, but it'll do.
steel Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Seriously, please comment! I need your feedback! I have a smallish update for you. I did a lot of work yesterday and this is the result. The next step is to completely remodel Cannonball (that ugly Screamin' Swing). It turned out completely wrong because the stations are too short and I switched to Crooked House too early. Because of this, the structure had to be too wide and the colors had to be those of the cars. I'll let the pictures do the talking this time. But you should still comment. Please? Please? Please? And I'll close with my favorite screens. So beautiful. Overview. It's really starting to come together. Spin Cycle. Starbucks. It's alright. Not my best work, but it'll do. Food court across from Wolf Creek Arcade. Picnic Gardens now resides alongside Hypno.
Chris Benvenuto Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Not Bad. I see much coming from this park. Good job! but, honestly. Telling people to comment when there isn't anything to comment on is a bit rude, I mean photos aside. This was out of pity (J/K!)
steel Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 ^I say that because I need feedback. Even something as little as "looks good" helps motivate me to finish. I usually get keep up the patience to finish a park, but when other people want to see more or have a problem with the park that I can fix, I get the drive to work on it more. By the way, I LOVE the MYST series (I think that's what your title is about).
steel Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 I've got a large update for you today. Other than the final coaster, the park is FINISHED! IMO, it looks great - my best work to date. I did so much yesterday that I don't even know where to begin. I will probably announce the final ride on Friday. I would announce it tomorrow, but apparently I have to go to Worlds of Fun. If you want the download WITHOUT the last coaster, just ask (some time today) and I'll put it up. Oh yes, and remember how at the beginning I said I wouldn't be making the park from a guest's POV? Well, I will be constructing this last ride with a little more realism. Once again, comments are always wonderful. Overview. Adventure Island. Wrangler Way (part two). Wrangler Way (part one). Wolf Creek. Midway. Wet Zone. Fairgrounds. The park in review: Town Square. The 500 Grill. Come on, it's in Indianapolis. I had to put in something that has to do with racing. Antique Photos. Music starts at 5:30 pm. Fireworks start at 9:30 pm. I love this. There's an outdoor stage that's used for live music. It's also the perfect place to watch fireworks. SKUP (pronounced "Skyoop"). I love how this works. Whirler is the new ride that sits inside Hypno's turnaround. It's way better now. I completely redid it. Recognize this? It's where that hideous Cannonball used to be.
Chris Benvenuto Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 IF you can put the D/L up I'd like it. This looks very good. Great Job! EDIT: Steel, your right, my member title is playing on the D'ni culture from MYST. Good to see other MYST fans here besides me.
steel Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Sure thing. Here it is. Be warned, my parks have a history of not working. And remember, there's still going to be one more ride. If you still want it though... EDIT: Old version deleted - new version below.
