The Northeast bracket in the Wood Coaster Madness tournament is now officially open for voting. The official tournament blog (http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com) has NOT been updated as of this posting, as blogger.com appears to be down at the moment. The direct link for the Northeast bracket ballot is http://www.quizilla.com/users/harrycalder/polls/4561705/Wood_Coaster_Madness_Northeast_Bracket_Round_1/. Once I can update the blog, it will be posted there instead. Enjoy!

The International bracket is now open for voting. This means all four round one brackets will be available until 4/9, 11:59pm EDT when the Midwest / South bracket closes voting. You'll find the link for the International bracket (and the other three brackets, as well) on the official tournament blog located at http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. Enjoy!

The Midwest/South bracket is closing voting in just a few hours, right around midnight tonight. There have been more than 150 votes in it, so if you voted, thanks. If not, this is your last chance!

The West bracket will be closing in one day and a few hours. By comparison, there are only 95 votes in it, so if you haven't voted and you're qualified to do so, time is running out. There are currently four match-ups in this bracket where the contenders are separated by five votes or less, so you definitely can make a difference.

The Northeast bracket is lagging even further behind with 60 total votes, but it stays open until the end of the day Thursday, so there's still plenty of time. There are four match-ups in this bracket currently separated by eight votes or less, including a back-and-forth battle between Excalibur and Skyliner in the 12 vs. 21 seed match-up.

The International bracket is open until the end of Saturday. Right now, there are only 16 votes. I expect less votes in this bracket due to there likely being less people reading about this poll who are quaified to vote in at least one match-up, but still, I think we should be able to get at least 30 or 40 well-traveled folks to volunteer their opinions. I especially need to find someone who has ridden both Stampida in Spain and Le Monstre in Quebec to chime in, as there have been no votes in that match-up. I realize very few people will be qualified to vote, but if you're one of them, this poll desperately needs your input!

Now that we're underway and the word is out, the deadlines for the remaining rounds will be much tighter (three to maybe six days of voting, at most). In fact, the first day or two of voting in round two of the Midwest/South and West brackets may overlap with the final day or two of voting in round one of the International Bracket. So, be sure to check in with http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com frequently for updates (links for voting in all the brackets can be found there, too). Round one results and round two match-ups will be posted to the blog for the Midwest/South bracket sometime after voting closes tonight. Thanks for your participation!

Results and analysis for round one in the Midwest / South and West brackets are now available at http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. You'll also find a preview of the round two match-ups in these brackets, which will open for voting sometime between Friday and Monday. Voting remains open in round one of the Northeast and International brackets, so feel free to do so if you haven't already. Enjoy!

I'm also game for a steelie contest when this one is done.

Using the Mitch Hawker steelie poll might be a bit problematic, since he does that grouping of ALL coasters of a type as one ("Your favorite Batman clone").

I've always hated that about that poll, since I have decided preferences as to which Bat I like better than others.

I suppose you could just leave it as it is and put "Batman clone" or something on the bracket... as long as everyone knew what it was.

Results and analysis for round one in the Northeast bracket are now available at http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. As always, a preview of the round two match-up in the bracket is also included. International bracket voting remains open until the end of the day Saturday--we're currently at 30 votes and I'd like to see it get up to 40 before voting closes. Only one vote separates Robin Hood and Loup Garou in their match-up, so if you've ridden both and have an interest in the outcome, now's the time to put your $0.02 in.

Can't wait for round 2 in the midwest bracket, there's some interesting matchups, here's rooting for Cornball Express over Kentucky Rumbler, and The falling of the Beast. What a great idea, love the option "not qualified to vote in this category." A fresh take on coaster polls.

Voting is now open in round two of the Northeast and International brackets as well. The Midwest / South and West ballot stays open until the end of the day Thursday, while the Northeast and International ballot is open until the end of the day Friday. The round three ballot will be posted sometime after the results of round two go up, likely on the 21st or 22nd, with match-ups in all brackets on a single ballot...but I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.

Links for each round two ballot can be found at http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. Enjoy!

P.S.: My thanks to those who have expressed kind words about this project. It was a bit of an experiment, and granted, I don't know if it will end up proving anything we didn't already know in the end, but I hope it's at least proving to be a fun diversion. Now get voting!

This is just a reminder that we need your votes. In round one of the Midwest / South and West brackets we had more than 100 votes in each. In round two, we're at less than two dozen, with less than two days to go before voting closes. It's less than three days before the Northeast and International round two brackets close and we're only at 17 votes or so.

Among the 32 match-ups there are 13 where the two coasters are currently separated by three votes or less and five where upsets appear to be in the making (as well as a few dead-even ties as of this posting). Your votes do make a difference and this experiment is only useful if you keep voting in each phase until it's over, so I encourage you to do so (even if you're only qualified to vote in one or two match-ups).

In case there's any lack of clarity, the slate from round one is wiped clean. The votes a coaster got in round one DO NOT carry over to round two. You must vote in the round two match-ups (even if it means voting for rides you already voted for in round one) in order for your opinion to be registered. Don't let the will of others cause your favorite ride to lose in round two...make your voice heard!

The links for the ballots can be found (as always) at http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. Feel free to contact me with any comments or questions (or criticism, if you must, but keep it clean and constructive ). Thanks to those who have already cast their round two votes and thanks in advance to those of you who will shortly.

All the round two results have been posted (with some analysis yet to come) to http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. Also, round three voting is now open (on a new poll hosting site) and will stay open until nearly the end of the month. The link for the round three ballot can be found at the aforementioned tournament blog site. Enjoy!

Reminder: Please vote in Round 3 if you have not done so already. Your votes in this round determine which coasters make the Sweet 16 and which ones are done. Don't believe me? Consider this:

- Of the 16 match-ups, there are five potential upsets in the making, three of which are currently tied votes!

- Nine of the 16 match-ups are currently separated by five votes or less (and most of those are in the "or less" category).

We started off so well in round one with dozens of votes in each of the first two brackets, but now, not so much. Let's get those numbers back up! Voting is open until 5pm EDT on Monday, and any additional information you might need can be found at http://www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com. Thanks for your participation!

There are less than two days left to get your Sweet 16 votes in. Some match-ups of interest:

-- 3-seeded Thunderhead is currently upsetting 2-seeded Shivering Timbers.

-- 1-seeded Tremors and 4-seeded Ozark Wildcat are separated by just one vote.

-- 2-seeded Hades leads 3-seeded Avalanche in a battle of Wisconsin Dells woodies.

-- 2-seeded Aska trails 6-seeded Colossos by just one vote.

Want to help change these outcomes (or cement them)? Get your votes in regarding these and the other four Sweet 16 match-ups by the end of the day Wednesday (EDT). Visit www.woodcoastermadness.blogspot.com for a link to the ballot. Enjoy!
