BiCoastal Kid Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 So! The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame decided to compile a list of the top 200 definitive albums that "every music lover should own." As with every big list, it is on some level.... ridiculous. http://www.definitive200.com/200_list.php Artists conspicuously missing: The Smiths The Cure Cream Talking Heads Rage Against The Machine The Ramones Sublime Velvet Underground Now, granted, I tried to keep that within the confines of what they would actually add. But I mean, I guess I can see those artists not making it. They had to make room for 8 soundtracks, 4 Metallica, 3 Jay-Z albums, 3 Dixie Chicks, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Will Smith, 50 Cent, Kid Rock, Nelly, and Creed. Now I'm not saying that all of those artists shouldn't be on there, but really. 4 Metallica? I can see Black Album and Master of Puppets, yeah. 3 Jay-Z is overkill x9000, and 3 Dixie Chicks is a bit of a stretch for the top 200. And soundtracks I'm a little weary about. I really think some of these could've been traded out for a few of the artists I listed as missing. Discuss.
ginzo Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 That list is an absolute fraud. 57 50 CENT GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN' 2003 Rap 111 RADIOHEAD O.K. COMPUTER 1997 Rock When a fricken' 50 cent album is #57 while Radiohead's best work gets #111, I call BS on this ranking list.
willski Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Ummm.....Rage Against the Machine's self-titled album is one of the most revolutionary (pun intended) albums ever. Going from lame 80s rock to that was such a radical change. It should definately be on there. Also, even though they only managed to get out one major record before the lead singer died, Sublime should definately be on there as well. Can you imagine some of the awesome stuff they would have put out in the 1990s and even into the 2000s if he hadn't overdosed? Carole King at #7 and Metallica at #14? Gag me now. Also, Metallica was on there 4 times and CCR wasn't? Is this some sort of a cruel joke? No Third Eye Blind on top of that-their self-titled was amazing as well. This isn't a rock and roll list, this is garbage. Over a quarter of the artists were rappers. Rap=Rock? Errr....no, sorry.
Wes Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Prince is only number #16? THIS LIST IS CRAP. This is more like "200 Popular Albums Ranked By Popularity". EDIT: Creed is on there. Haha. Is this a joke?
Masked_Maverick Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 As much as I liked Creed I do agree that they shouldn't of been on the list. I think that "list" was more of a popularity contest proof being that 50 cent and the Dixie Chicks were on there.
the sound Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I would of thought that SYstem of a Down's Toxcicity might of been there... But otherwise, this list is ok.
BiCoastal Kid Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 ^Eh, there have more experimental and intricate metal bands. They just happened to get popular.
Homer Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Are you sure this list is not "Top 200 albums of the past 50 years?" And American Idiot on top? Oh well, at least Dookie did better.
ginzo Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Prince is only number #16? THIS LIST IS CRAP. This is more like "200 Popular Albums Ranked By Popularity". EDIT: Creed is on there. Haha. Is this a joke? According to this list: Bruce Springsteen > Prince Shania Twain > Miles Davis Kenny G > NWA I could make like 500 more examples of how jacked up this ranking is. It's interesting how they have some really good albums mixed in with complete crap, and in seemingly no particular order.
IceDragon Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 ummmmm... i fail to see Cradle of Filth anywhere... Why? and surely, if its 'rock&roll', rap shouldnt come in (no offence or anything, but...) and WTH is up with the Foo Fighters getting anywhere?
BorisTF Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 ummmmm... i fail to see Cradle of Filth anywhere... Why?Maybe because Cradle Of Filth is vastly over-rated when compared to bands from Finland/Sweden etc.
Luxo Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Two Green Day albums over The Clash's London Calling? BLASPHEMY! and surely, if its 'rock&roll', rap shouldnt come in (no offence or anything, but...) Rap=Rock? Errr....no, sorry. When they say rock and roll they mean pop music in general.
