coastrfreak2000
I'm not sure if "reformating" would be the correct term in this case, but I want to completely clear out my computer and start new and fresh. I know alot of people who have done this by simply uninstalling and reinstalling the operating system (I have Windows XP). The problem is, I don't have the disc for Windows XP. Is there any way that I can completely get rid of everythng and start anew WITHOUT the disc?
ParkTrips
Do you have a recovery disc? Or better yet, access to google where I am sure there are better sites to find this information on and or ask questions?!
crazyrider06
If you dont have the XP software to reload from there is one suggestion i can make. you dont neccessarily have to take XP of to start fresh. You can just reformat your hard drive, or do what we call a Clean sweep. Which basically means just take everything off your computer that didnt come with it, inlcuding files that you downloaded. GMAN962
If yours is anything like mine, you don't need the Windows XP disc. In the control panel, or accessories, there should be something along the lines of either "System Restore", where you can either put your computer back to an earlier point in time, or completely reformat. I think. It should be either that or something along the lines of "Recovery Wizard". I don't know what brand of a computer you have, but this is how mine is, and it'll hopefully work for you. Good Luck! -Mike
BarryH
If your computer about 1-2 years old, you'll probably have a Recovery Wizard on your hard drive. The Recovery Wizard will reinstall your OS and the original, factory installed software. Remember to back up data before running the recovery. I would check your computer's welcome mat or manual for more information, as different computer manufacturers may call the Recovery Wizard something different. coastrfreak2000
Yeah, I'll probably use the System Recovery which will bring my computer back to the factory settings. Well, I guess I now have something to do this weekend...

Reformating your hard drive without a WinXP CD would be kind of pointless. Because you'd have no way to re-install Windows after the format.
