coasterferg Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 So this last weekend a few friends and I decided to get away from college life in Lincoln, Nebraska and all its sucky midterms and spend a night at Worlds of Fun. We arrived at the park at 7 and were able to stay till closing, which was 1 a.m.!!! This gave us "children of the corn" plenty of time to do all the haunts and roller coasters, and we didn't even murder any parents. The coasters we excellent. Any time I get to ride coasters in the dark makes me a happy camper, and boy did we get to ride in the dark. The park was open till one and we got 3 rides on Mamba and Patriot, 2 rides (why 2 or even 1, I'm not sure) on Timberwolf, and 1 each on Spinning Dragons and Boomerang. Front Row on Patriot was especially pleasing. The Haunts were pretty good. Newly added was the Asylum, which was actually fairly scary and intricate by Worlds of Fun standards. Lore of the Vampire and Camp Gonnagitcha Witchahatchet were good and spooky also. Dominion of Doom, however, was a complete waste of a good walkway shortcut. Anyways, here's some photos. PS: 10 points if you can guess where we ate before arriving at the park. On the Way we passed quite possibly the most exciting shuttle bus on the planet. Its a Full moon and the Children of the Cornyland have arrived to WOF Lately Worlds of Fun has been involved in a small infestation of sorts. Perhaps John Goodman can help them out. YEP, HE'S BAD I became thirsty and decided to try out the Gary Coleman approved drinking fountain. I had to pause to praise Mamba, my one true love of WOF. Disobedience to Mamba is Disobedience to him. The Children Boys of the Corn. The Childrenesses of the Corn Midnight Patriot Immelman Madness. MWAHAHAHA and another And for all you nightime lift hill fetish lovers... Here is kind of a good pic of patriot at night. Sorta makes think of the wrong holiday at the time though... BOOO WOF for reducing patriot to one train operation only 30 minutes before the park closes! GRR. Bring out the pitchfork for the maintenence man in blue! THE BLUE MAN! YES, THE BLUE MAN MALACHI! HE WANTS YOU TOO MALACHI! The scariest costumed character at the park was this odd guy sporting the sleeveless shirt and short shorts in 50 degree weather. He was definitely and OUTLANDER! When I sar this here corn stack my small town nebraska boy side came out like Mark Foley at a paige conference. Spinning Dra...*yawn* I mean Spinnin...*yawn*...oh what was I talking about? Thunderhawk was quite pretty at night. The lighting reminded us of our fire demon in the cornfield back home. The Cornheads group photo
steel Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 What's the problem with Timbe Wolf? It's way better than it was last year. I recently rode it in an axle row near the back in the middle of a busy day, and it was completely managable. Patriot is probably the coolest-looking coaster there is when it lights up at night. I love how the chaser lights on the lift hill are the same speed as the chain, and how the white stripe seems to glow.
bigstevet07 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 What's wrong with Timberwolf? How about everything. Even if it wasn't a back breaking, leg destroying, rough coaster, the layout is still meh.
steel Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Are you kidding me? I've had rougher rides on Mamba, and I'm not exaggerating a bit. Timber Wolf was really, really rough two years ago, but it is WAY better now. I won't deny that it has it's rough spots, but you guys blow it way out of preportion. As for the layout, it has some of the most fierce airtime I've experienced and its first drop is simply wonderful. The only flaw is the speed-destroying helix.
CP_RULES Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 The thing that makes everyone think so poorly of SD is the fact that they fill the car completely up or 2 in one side and one on the other. The only real way to enjoy the ride is to put two people across from two empty seats. This will get the car really spinning and make for one of the coolest experiences ever. Sure its not the most thrilling ride ever, but SD is fun. I love WOF, and Im glad you had fun too. Oh yea, about TW. Im can completely understand everyones opinions that it is rough, as it is the roughest coaster I have ridden. HOWEVER, TW is still one of the best woodies Ive ridden, the airtime is awesome, even with the trim! Anyways good PTR dude.
pvcoasterguy Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Sorry, but Iowa totally owns Nebraska in terms of corn. Don't hate! This TR reminds me that I need to get down to MI some time to hit up the parks. Anyway, nice TR!
coasterferg Posted October 13, 2006 Author Posted October 13, 2006 About TW. I have been on this woody many times in past 10 years and I can honestly say that this time was by far the roughest i've ever experienced it to be. also, Iowa may produce more corn but I'm an official Cornhusker from the University of Nebraska! Woot, go Huskers!

"MO" is Missouri. -Justin "Just saying" Seabaugh
steel Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 ^Minnesota is MN. I thought everyone knew that. And honestly, if you thik Timber Wolf is rougher than Boomerang or Dragon at Adventureland, something is very wrong with you.
bigstevet07 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I will never say that TW is worse than the Dragon at Adventureland. That thing needs to be blown up. As for Boomerang, I rode the first season it opened and that was enough for me.
