live2tell75
So today Kevin, our friend Lynn and I took a day to cool off and have some fun at Adventure Island. Like all the Florida parks, AI was very slow. Longest wait was about 10 minutes for Wahoo Run. Not to bad. I did notice that BGA looked really crowded from the parking lot. About 90% of the lot was full! Maybe it had to do with our cooler and nice weather today- no rain and a super cold 90 degrees! We all agreed that Riptide was a good addition to the park, a lot of fun. So here are the pics, enjoy. Kevin and I agree, we could spend hours relaxing and crusing down the Rambling Bayou. I am glad AI is my home water park, it is like a little piece of paradise in the middle of Tampa! Kevin loves to float along the tropic setting. Thank goodness it was just a fluke! This is what happens after you become demonic, the bayou trys to swallow you whole! Poor Lynn. The bayou has made Lynn demonic! Time to spend some relaxing time on the Rambling Bayou. Not a good place to be if you don't like water! We love Splash Attack! Like the waterfalls by the Runaway Rapids, all the water features on Splash Attack were working! Lynn is ready to give Aruba Tuba some love! As I already knew from doing this as a kid, Kevin and Lynn found out it is not easy doing the monkey bars/ cargo net thing when a small kid stops in front of you! As does Lynn. Kevin loves the Runaway Rapids. So I found that it is not easy to take a photo on Wahoo Run. Example: Trying to get a photo of Lynn. There is a 10 second moment of the ride that is in daylight. Wahoo Run is one our favorites in the park. Kevin and I are ready for our Wahoo Run adventure. Lynn and Kevin enjoy the old school waterfalls on the way to The Runaway Rapids flumes. This is the first time I have seen them running this summer. And for anyone that hasn't seen Adventure Island's new slide, here it is - Riptide. pvcoasterguy
I found Adventure Island to be a pretty nice waterpark. A few rides were closed, but not enough to make the day a bad one. Runaway Rapids was a lot of fun... the tunnels and scenery made the ride. Did you guys hit up Key West Rapids? We found that one to be different from all the other tube slides... ever. It's divided into a bunch of different sections, with splash pools dividing them. The lifeguards then push you into the next section. The flume is really wide, so it allows you to spin. Also, Everglides was a ton of fun.
live2tell75
The Key West Rapids were closed today. But all three of us have been on it many times. I agree it is a unique ride and a lot of fun. Lynn and I hit The Everglides, a favorite of mine since I was kid. I always forget how steep that slide is till I'm on it! Here Lynn and I enjoying the Everglides. Wish waterproof cameras had zoom lenses.
Homer
Am I the only one that thinks Busch needs to repaint and show a little lovin' to Wahoo Run? Anyways, great Photo TR. Although, I regret not riding Typhoon last time I went in 2001. Oh well, I should head back up there soon....
live2tell75
^ Thanks I agree, Wahoo Run could use a fresh coat of paint, it is kind of faded. You didn't miss anything not riding the Tampa Typhoon. The Typhoon was a back breaker!
Slacking
Everytime I drive past AI while the park is open, Key West Rapids always seems to be closed. I was at BGT about 90 minutes before park close (for HOS rehearsal), and Scorpion had a line, and Kumba looked like a 10 or so minute wait, so it did seem like it was a busy day there. SharkTums
Yeah, I would love to hear some of the 'true' stories behind Adventure Island. I always loved that park! (I mean, the walk up to the body slides is soooo awesome and different from any other!) But they've definitely done some weird stuff. They took out Barratuba which I loved! (I heard it was because too many people were complaining about getting hurt). It was one of those 'concrete trough, rapids type slides' very old school, but awesome and high capacity. Wahoo Run eventually took it's spot like 5 years later! Also, when Key West Rapids opened they had these awesome interlocking tubes that you would go down in. Kind of the precursor to the clover leafs. But something bad must have happened as the ride was shut down, and those tubes were gone soon after opening! And now, isn't the middle tube of water moccasin, and tyhpoon gone!?!? I'm very curious to go back there! Thanks Eric!

live2tell75
I think too many people complained that the Tampa Typhoon was too painful. Riptide is more of a all around attaction that the whole family can experience, but still thrilling at the same time. I never got to go on the Key West Rapids when it had the interlocking tubes. I belive the main reason why the Key West Rapids is closed a lot of time depends on the time of year. We typically go during off season. A lot of time The Key West Rapids, Water Moccasin, and the part of the Rambling Bayou that goes through the rain forest are closed. I figure it is not crowded enough, so the park doesn't have to staff all of those attractions on that side of the park. The Key West Rapids alone takes about 5 lifeguards to staff. On Sat. all three slides on the Water Moccasin including the middle one were open. I agree the waterfalls on the way to the Runaway Rapids flumes were very cool. I just hate the way you have to go all the way around the world just to get up to them. (There used to be a walk way through the slide's splash pool that you had to walk through to get to the entrance way to the slides). I wish the rainforest greenhouse-builing that the Rambling Bayou goes through still had the fog, mist, and little waterfalls working. I'am assuming it probally wasn't that safe and hard for lifeguards to watchout for guests in that part of the bayou. The Baratuba used to be my favorite slide of all time. When I was kid I ride that thing a gazillion times over and over.
