waxwobbler Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Following my questions in http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27422&highlight= Thanks for all the advice guys. I am going out to Cali in 2 days ! soooooo excitesd. This is not a theme park tour but we have decided to go to SFMW and Disneyland. There’s a few coasters in Vegas as well. I would have like to have gone to SFMM as well but its only open weekends at the moment & it doesn’t fit our schedule. I am thinking of taking Public transport to SFMW from San Fransisco Union Square, there is a ferry that looks like it might me a good idea, but there is also a BART station & bus. Anyone got any advice on this ? Vegas, will be checking out, Canyon Blaster, Speed & Manhattan express. How do these places operate, can I just pay to ride each specific coaster ? Any other Vegas tips., forget all the stuff at the top of the tower just to damn high. Planning on going to Disneyland on Sunday 1st October afternoon/evening, watching Fantasmic going on California Screaming as it is closing on Monday. Does anyone know if there will be fireworks ? Will return on Monday for the all the rest. Should visit SCBB while we’re out there as well (just checked, its weekends only ) Big thanks to all on this forum, there is so much information out there & loads about Disneyland & fast pass. A very excited waxwobbler !
socalMAN123 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 On that Sunday, I'm not entirely sure if there will be or not. They might have some new Halloween show, but I doubt it, so plan on fireworks happening. Also, I will probably be at DLR the same day you are, if you would like to meet up and ride a few rides PM me. Hope it is a fun trip! ---Brent
speedracer Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Sounds like you've got an amazing trip planned. Hope you're not too disappointed with SFMW, definitely not a coaster thrill park like all the other SF parks. Does have a few good ones, but it's mostly about the animal shows and attractions, with rides thrown in the mix just for variety. Have never taken transportation there, but between all your options, the ferry service is by far the most scenic and least complicated way to go: http://www.vallejotransit.com/mworld.html Ferry service runs Fri-Sun only: http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/SixFlags.htm Vegas coasters have both single ride and all day pass options. And because of local ordinance, DL can only do the fireworks on Friday and Sat. durning off season. Have a great trip!
ScottBrown Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Sound like you have a great trip planned, in Vegas be sure to see all of the touristy things like the Bellagio Fountains, the Mirage Volcano, and Old Town - Also if you are driving be sure to stop by Stateline to get the crap beaten out of you by Desperado, I think there is a shuttle there from the MGM Grand but I don't know if it still runs

Does anyone know if there will be fireworks ? http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/calendar/daily/daily?name=CalendarDailyPage&date=20061001 ...it would appear that Disney's cutting back for the offseason, as they will no longer be showing the fireworks on Sundays. speedracer Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 ^ Can blame all the b#%&ing neighbors for that, no longer allowed to blow off fireworks on a night before school, leaves only Fri & Sat in the offseason. At least he can watch the hordes of people packed around the castle on Sunday waiting for the fireworks, seen it every time I've been there on a Sunday. People are just automatically used to DL holding firework displays the entire weekend, sucks that a few have to ruin the decades long tradition for everyone else.
Robocoaster Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 In Vegas, you can purchase a single Speed ride for 10 bucks, or an all-day pass that also includes all-day admission to the cyber-speedway for 20 bucks (the CS is a complete kick!). Manhattan Express, err, the rollercoaster at NY, NY, is about 12.50 or 15 bucks for a ride, but also has an all-day, or at least cheaper re-ride, options. Take the advil before you ride. The Canyon Blaster is seven bucks a ride at the Adventuredome, with an all-day pass for the park being just under $23.00. THe Luxor has some decent sims (if your into sim rides), and "Pirates 4d", which ran at some parks a few seasons back (it's ok, kinda cheesy). More info here: http://www.luxor.com/attractions/attractions_atrium.aspx If your into cars don't forget about The Drive, located behind the Sahara. If you want to test drive an H2 or a Corvette, here you go: http://www.vegas.com/attractions/on_the_strip/gm_thedrive.html?ic_campID=26 As stated before, the touristy things are a must if you can, to add to the Vegas Experience which, truthfully, also includes losing all your spending money (and then some) at the games of luck of your choice.
dougr Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 On our California driving vacation, we stayed at the Motel 6 nearest SFMW. My daughter and I walked to the park to check it out, and I noticed there's a transit bus that stops right in front of the park. We decided pack to pack a lunch in our car and spend $15 on parking the next day. Also-have you considered Paramount's Great America? We had Six Flags passes and were going to SCBB anyway, so I decided to pass it by-but if you're going to be in the Bay area anyway...
