htomc42
The Myrtle Beach Pavilion and amusement park will be closing on September 30th; since the "season" officially ends on Labor Day, the park is only open on weekends until then. That last day is a special "Last Ride" event-- only ticketholders will be allowed in, with all sorts of specials. I just called the Pavilion at (843) 913-5200, and the woman said that tickets are still available for this, although the admissions office wasn't yet open to actually sell them. They are $35 or so, maybe more with tax. http://www.mbpavilion.com I definitely plan on going down for this. If anyone else in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill region wants to go, I have a van and can take several people. Email me at htomc42@hotmail.com if you're interested. Scaparri
Yeah, I'm a little disappointed I didn't ride anything when I was there in July. I'm glad I got to visit the park though. Once again, it's a real shame. It's a cool little place.
bgwfreak
Hopefully the Atlantic will be free and clear this weekend (of hurricanes). I'm planning on going there on the 17th for the final time. It's so sad.

htomc42
The Myrtle Beach Grand Prix will be closed- the last day will be this Saturday, September 16th. I will actually be down at the beach this weekend for another documentation run, so I will definitely feature this event. Here's some links on this: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/15462915.htm http://www.morningnewsonline.com/midatlantic/scp/news.apx.-content-articles-BTW-2006-09-07-0009.html I'm updating everything on my MB page, I've done a large amount of updating and cleaning it up since I first posted it, everything will be posted here: HToMC Goes to Myrtle Beach I'll also have info very soon on the old Astro Needle Park in Myrtle Beach- I will be doing an interview with the guy who originally built the park in 1969. bgwfreak
Sunday I was at the park and it was PACKED. They had $10 all ride wristbands all day. It was insane crowded. But the lines weren't too fad. Haunted Hotel took about the longest at about 30 minutes. I got to ride almost everything I wanted and then some. Hurricane is a piece of junk!!! They have let it fall apart and as far as I'm concerned it can be burned to the ground. Look for a HUGE photo TR coming soon (after I get some sleep). Hercules
It's always sad to see a rough wood that I never got to ride go
htomc42
"Rough wood" is an understatement when it comes to the Hurricane. Anyone who has ever ridden it knows exactly what I mean. Expect a photo TR of the Myrtle Beach Grand Prix's Last Ride, this past Saturday, as soon as I finished processing the pics. I have some video too. I also got my tickets for the Pavilion's Last Ride coming up on Sept. 30th. The woman at the ticket counter said that sales were brisk this weekend, but I got tickets 869 and 870, if that number means anything, there may still be tons of them left. Their ticket office is only open when the park itself is open, which will be next weekend, the 23rd and 24th, at 1pm. Their number is (843) 913-5200 x2500. htomc42
In literally a couple of minutes, I'll be hitting the road to Myrtle Beach; I'm going down a day early to do some other photograpy in the area, and I'll have a TR of the Pavilion event on Saturday. Official hours for this are 3-8pm; I think that tickets are still on sale for this, although they are an extra $5 on that day (making it around $40 or so). I'll probably be wearing my standard camo pants and black NIN t-shirt if any of the TPR crew wants to get together. Catch me at 919-602-8529. Johnny Upsidedown
Hi everybody I was out at the Last to Ride event on saturday. I had heard the event sold out. There was a pretty good crowd at the event. Once you arrived you got your armband and into the park just before 3pm. The rides opened for the last ever chance to ride. I rode the coasters and a couple of flat rides and did lots of photos. Its a real shame to see the park close it seems like a great small park with lots to do. I know development is good but removeval of any park is a bad thing. Anyway I have a bunch of photos up on my site if you havent gotten enough looks at all the rides and stuff. Go here for the photos http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/eventMB.html Check in before 3 pm. Always loved these type rides

Johnny Upsidedown
Thanks WES. It was about as perfect of a day as you could want. Beautiful blue sky and a bright sunny day. The rides for the most part were a walk on or little wait. Every employee I met was awesome. This being my first trip to the park I was very impressed with the layout and large ride selection. Its a real shame that the park has to go. I do care some about the history of some parks but mostly sad to see what appeared to me as a great family park that has to be dismantled. Its not like some parks I have been to where you cant believe the park is even allowed to operate. Although I would have liked to been at Dollywood for the construction tour of Mystry Mine but I am glad that I made the drive up to Myrtle Beach instead. Just one of those things with the park closing I had to go plus how often can you do a special event and close a park forever ah memories. It was a long drive 9 and half hours up and same back. Spent a couple hours at MBP and had some time to go to Family Kingdom before the event at MBP. How long will the Famil Kingdom park be operating. Seems to me it will be next on the chopping block. Jonathan
I went down to Myrtle Beach along with Wes on the 17th for my last rides, but unexpectedly found myself there Saturday helping out some people who flew in from LA to film a documentary (FYI it is called "Becoming Attraction" and they hope to have it shown on Discovery, Travel Channel, or History Channel; website will be http://addisonfilms.com at least temporarily). It was definitely an interesting experience, and there were a lot of emotions on display from people who have been going to the Pavilion for their entire lives. I heard a lot of different opinions from locals on the closing of the Pavilion and the intentions of the B&C company. It will certainly be weird approaching the beach from 501 and not seeing the park in the distance. Encore Video Productions, which is located across the street from the Hurricane's far helix, is going to mount a webcam on their roof facing the Pavilion. They plan to have live video streaming 24/7 of the site during deconstruction and construction of whatever is built there.
