Hello everyone,

I will be visiting NYC from the 14th to the 21st of May. I wanted to add a little extra bonus to the trip and go to Six Flags Great Adventure (Hopefully the intamin guys get KingDa-Ka up and running until then). So here is my question:

What's the best way for a german guy to get from NYC to SFGA? I am a little afraid of driving a rental car in manhattan, so maybe it's a good idea to take a ferry to new jersey? Or take a bus?

Any ideas would by GREATLY appreciated!

I've already kind of asked this question

http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1317

There is a bus from the Port Authority Bus Station next to Penn railway station in Manhattan to SF:Great Adventure directly.

It's run by NJ transit - website is http://www.njtransit.com/nn_sp_sixFlags.shtml

I'm trying to find out if there is a bus (used to be one from Trenton) to the park, that gets there at opening time

That's not bad, but as you said it: Arrival at the park is rather late. As this park is told to be really packed and lines will be long, maybe a earlier arrival would be better.

By the way: Does anyone know how good/bad the Q-Bot-System works?

Posted

Pre-Kingda Ka, the Qbot system worked AWESOME!

I don't know how that ride will affect it, but I would go for it!

Hi Elissa,

Me stupid german man,

me live in woods,

me never seen Q-Bot!

Just kidding. Thank you for your answer, I only have some idea how this q-bot thing works (actually I have only used universal express and fastpass before). Can you tell me a little bit more about it? Is it a limited offer (could it be sold out?) And what does "gold" mean? I will only have one day at the park so I would be happy to get the most out of it.

Ok...

Qbot - Limited amounts sold, can sell out, I've seen it sell out. Supposed to make you wait the same amount of time as the normal line, realistically it makes you wait about 80% of what the normal line is. It's a little device that kind of looks like a pager. You scan it at the ride you want to ride, it tells you when to come back. Meaning you can go ride something else while waiting in the 'virtual' line for whatever you queued up. So I'm thinking that this season you would get one, queue up Kingda Ka, go ride everything else in the park in 6 hours, and by then your time should be ready for Kingda Ka! You can queue up multiple rides at a time, but the 'count down' of when you can ride each one doesn't start till you've ridden the one before it. If this doesn't make sense please ask me more questions and I will try to explain it better.

Gold Qbot - Even more limited amounts sold. Double the price of normal Qbot. Same exact device, it's just programmed differently where you will only have to wait 5-10% of what the line actually is. We went one time, chiller had like an hour line, we would be told to come back in 5 minutes. We did this about 5 times in a row and really pissed off the people waiting in the normal line!

For what it's worth, I think that Qbot is actually the BEST 'skip the line' program out of all of them.

Hi Elissa,

alright. Thank you so very much. What a little complicated device! So I think I'll go for that "gold" Q-Bot, if possible.

I think, I'll try to rent a car for one day and try to arrive at the gates as early as possible to be able to get one (but with my kind of luck, I will arrive early AND get a Q-Bot AND the intamin cable will snap )

Thank you again. If you should have any question for your europe-trip, I'll be glad to help you. And we all -- of course -- are looking forward to see you all.

^Cool, glad I could help!

We're actually going to post more about our trip soon so that everyone can meet up with us!

Also, GAdv's q-bots went up this year:

New Prices:

Regular - $15 rental + $15 per person

Gold - $33 rental + $33 per person

Makes for a very expensive additional fee...

Hi Stew,

thank's for the information. Please help me out: Does "rental" mean some kind of "yes I'll bring back that gadget"-fee, which you get back on returning the Q-Bot?

You don't get it back.

You're basically paying to rent the unit for the day, then also paying to put people on the unit.

Elissa "does that make sense?" Alvey

Posted

No it doesn't make any sense. I never understood why they had to charge a base fee AND a per person fee.

I think they technically changed the wording this year to be:

$30 for the first person, $15 each additional...

So that is soooo much better...

How they have the prices listed at SFNE is like this

20 - One Person

30 - Two Persons

40 - Three Persons

50 - Four Persons

60 - Five Persons

70 - Six Persons

Just as an example, I don't think the prices I listed are correct.

I am going this thursday to SFGA all day!

me anf my friend are thinking of getting this Qbot thingie (never used it)

is it worth the 45 bucks??

Have fun! There is a qbot booth, it is somewhat near the entrance. Go down the main pathway and then go to the right...you'll see the booth on your left side.

Elissa "that is, if it's still in the same place!" Alvey

Allright, NYC-Trip is getting closer now. Does anybody know, if there is a scheduled opening date for KingDa Ka? I know that anyway the park is worth a visit but SFGA with NO KingDa Ka is one thing, but SFGA with a non-operating KingDa Ka is another...

Posted

I think I heard sometime next week.

I think they're doing some Good Morning America Shoot around the 19th of May so they have to try and get it open right around then.

Elissa "Maybe someone has better info!" Alvey

It was suppose to open May 12 (yesterday)

I went down there and they said the ywere doing "inspections"

4 other rides closed down at SFGA, nitro was closed down for about 2 hours (dont knwo why - i saw a cart stock at the top - lol )

The chiller closed down after a LONG LINE of waiting! thank god i got to go!

the belts got stock, and i had to stay in the cart for about 10 minutes.

anyways, this Qbot thing is REALLY REALLY worth it! anyone know the EXACT pricing for it at SVGA ?

like for 2 people or 3 people or 4

thanks!

Don't know exact pricing...can't find it on their website...try giving them a call.

Approx:

Regular Qbot - $10fee + $10 a person

Gold Qbot - $20 fee + $20 a person

Elissa "I agree, well worth it" Alvey
